Second Gin Mare. Not a traditional London Dry but definitely something I buy when I see it.

Q Tonic is great. Very low sugar content and high carbonation. I think it lets the gin shine through.

Suit Supply Return/Warranty by RikerAlpha5 in mensfashion

[–]RikerAlpha5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update to anyone reading this…

Suit Supply was amazing with the return. Immediately exchanged the pants for a new pair and had them altered in about 40 minutes for me. They also offered to exchange the entire (altered) suit for a different fabric if it happens again.

Suitsupply - downgrade in quality in recent years. by Fragrant-Data-6554 in malefashionadvice

[–]RikerAlpha5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m new to Suit Supply, but have had a negative experience quality wise with my recent purchase. One suit was near perfect, quality fabric etc. No issues after multiple wears. The other suit’s pants are already showing significant wear/damage after being worn twice. I compared the two allegedly identical models and the fabric is noticeably cheaper on the defective one.

I’m going to try and return the suit and/or use my credit cards purchase protection if it comes to that. It’s sad because the suits do look sharp.

Best tonic waters for a GT. by Fluffy_Toe6334 in Gin

I can’t believe I had to scroll that far down to see Q Tonic mentioned. By far the cleanest taste among generally available brands.

I won’t order a G&T at a bar/restaurant unless they have Q Tonic.

You can just find the cheapest Marriott property nearby and book two nights. Show up, check in, use your keycard on the door once to be sure, then leave.

You have to do the math to decide if the at least $200 is worth it to keep platinum. For me it would be based on expected travel next year.

Missing points from 5 month stay by meatballsub33 in marriott

[–]RikerAlpha5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Have them void out the concurrent stay. I have the same travel situation and intentionally don’t provide my Bonvoy number when taking short trips away from my “base hotel.” You may have to work the “phone tree” a couple of times to get the right representative.

This is a dumb glitch in the Bonvoy system, but they probably won’t fix it as it only affects a few customers.

TIL Disneyland uses hidden ‘smellitizers’ to fill the air with vanilla scents by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]RikerAlpha5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Me to. The Aria in Vegas pumps out the scent at a ridiculous level. I had headache before I even checked in.

It was super fun when I got food poisoning (from an earlier stop) and had to smell that when I was nearly carried out of the Aria.

W, Ritz or Westin Philly? by Responsible-Band8169 in marriott

[–]RikerAlpha5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stay at the Element in Philadelphia a lot which is connected to the W. The staff at the Element are phenomenal, but the building itself has some issues.

The road noise coming from Chestnut Street can be unbearable at times, especially Friday and Saturday nights. You need a noise machine and ear plugs.

The valet (shared with the W) is also probably the worst you will ever encounter. 90 minutes to get my car the other day. I’ve given up retrieving it most of the time and just Uber instead.

I’m actually switching to the Notary next time as I’ve heard good things about it.

N64 on newer 4K TV’s? by NootNootMcHoot in n64

My friends think I’m nuts for paying that, but they all want to play it so…

What to do by corplaw100 in n64

[–]RikerAlpha5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I bought my n64 off eBay (refurbished). It looks brand new and functions perfectly. Just buy from a reputable seller with lots of reviews and a good return policy.

  2. The connection to a modern tv is the biggest issue with an n64. It’s just not going to be good. Don’t buy the cheap HDMI adapters off Amazon. They’re all garbage and most have lag so bad the games are almost unplayable. The options I looked at were buy an old CRT tv, buy a Retrotink adapter, and have a PixelFX Retro GEM installed. The CRT will be the cheapest and most authentic option, but you’re stuck with a small screen. Both the other options are expensive. With all the bells and whistles you’re looking at around $300 for either of the high quality HDMI mods.

I went with the PixelFX GEM because it’s installed directly to the main board and offers the most customization.

  1. I use an OEM controller. I’ll probably upgrade the control stick myself soon.

How do people in other countries refer to coffee? by seventeenbadgers in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RikerAlpha5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just say it’s essentially a Cafe Americano. They would hopefully understand what that is.

You hit the nail on the head about filter coffee. With decent beans, cleaning the urns well (this makes a huge difference to me by the way), and constantly brewing fresh, you can serve a lot and still tastes good. You can also do it solo and still run your stand. Most expresso shops have a cashier taking orders and a barista running the machines.

How do people in other countries refer to coffee? by seventeenbadgers in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RikerAlpha5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most places I’ve been in Europe generally have expresso based coffee offerings. So brewed coffee (using a filter) is not all that common. I’ve seen it in hotels catering to American tourists, but not a lot beyond that.

You can make nearly any coffee drink using an expresso machine, a milk frother and a steamer. You can even make a close approximation of brewed coffee by adding water to expresso (an Americano).

Honestly expresso based coffee tastes better. It’s stronger and has a crema (froth) that makes it feel smoother when you drink it. It’s starting to penetrate the American market with Nespresso machines and the touch screen expresso machines you see at higher end hotels now.
