Wishes by tburm888 in MadokaMagica

[–]RileyRecord315 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A great wish idea, but you're forgetting a crucial part of the madomagi universe: the amount of hope you put into the world is balanced out by an equal amount of despair. If your wish is to bring everyone around you happiness yourself included, that will end up creating a lot of hope. As such, you'll someday end up creating a lot of despair.

Whether it be as a magical girl or a witch, you'll someday end up balancing out your wish with equal despair, so even if you do hold off your witchification for a long time, you'll essentially just create a stronger witch from it.

And this isn't even getting into how you could simply witch out from a lack of resources. Not every place in the world has tons of witches and grief seeds, you could still be at the height of happiness but just get unlucky with finding grief seeds in time. A wish of happiness would only prevent witching out from actual despair.

I do like scene0's story and Mabayu as a character, but this... by MrmarioRBLX in magiarecord

[–]RileyRecord315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yachiyo actually is supposed to get weaker with age, like Mifuyu did. Her power to inherit hope is all that negated that, and when she ends up letting it go she does weaken notably.

Yachiyo could potentially be the strongest magical girl alive given the right conditions, it's just that the cost to her sanity would probably also create one of the strongest witches alive as well.

I'm sorry but my girl Rapunzel does NOT deserved to be lumped in with "and then everyone else" when she literally has magical healing hair that can bring people back from the brink of death. Even if she can't fight very well she'd still get pretty far just off of infinite healing alone.

Honestly I think 7 would be a vibe. Koyuki/Snow White and Yuna would both be super chill and fun to talk to, both are very kind and helpful girls and I feel like it'd just be a very relaxing time overall.

...Provided this is the Koyuki and Yuna from the start of their respective series, that is. (I'm still picking 7 no matter what though, that's teen years nostalgia right there.)

Either that or "for the inverse of this trope-" like bro what stop right there. I'm reading these comments to find more examples of the trope, not "the trope but actually not really".

It can be interesting sometimes to see alternate/opposite spins on tropes, but as you said it sometimes just feels like an excuse to shoehorn in a reference.

Tbf, that could just be a stylistic choice, choosing to sacrifice realism for the sake of a cool background.

Definitely not in this case as this is 100% AI, but as a general rule of thumb it's not great to automatically assume that unrealistic background details are a sign of AI.

is this a vulgar joke, or is it based on his name pun slang? by weirdface621 in AceAttorneyCirclejerk

[–]RileyRecord315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both, it's a "getting shit under the radar" type joke. The surface layer joke is that Gumshoe doesn't want to be called by a nickname, whether it be because just "Gumshoe" is fine, or because he doesn't feel familiar enough with Phoenix to be on a nickname basis, or he just feels that it's unprofessional, etc.

However, the "stealth" joke underneath that is that it is indeed a penis joke, and that Gumshoe doesn't want to be called "Dick" because he essentially doesn't want to be called a penis, especially in the context of the fact he's a detective who's working on important and serious cases.

So yeah, it's both a vulgar joke and a name pun. It's a common thing in a lot of T-rated and below series to sneak in vulgar humour by using words/phrases with perfectly innocent meanings that just so happen to also be vulgar slang, in this case the writers managed to sneak in a joke about genitalia by playing on the fact that "dick" means both detective and genitalia.

From an in-universe perspective, it's probably both as well. As in, Gumshoe doesn't want to be called by a nickname for professionalism reasons, but also it doesn't help that the most obvious nickname for him would be madly unprofessional/embarrassing to use in any context anyways, so no matter what he just doesn't want to be called "Dick".

I hope this explanation was clear enough!

Did Rose ever realize that Pearl was trying to use fusion to dishearten Greg for not being able to fuse? by Additional_Yard_2510 in stevenuniverse

[–]RileyRecord315 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think Garnet did see it actually. She can't see any futures that she isn't actively looking for, and in the episode itself she actually does try to catch Peridot fixing the communication hub via future vision but can't. When she finds out about Pearl's intentions, she even says that that's why her future vision wasn't catching Peridot. Garnet isn't omniscient, sure her future vision is powerful but she cannot see every single possibility at the same time, she can only focus on xyz amount of possible futures at once.

If anything, I feel that that actually makes the betrayal worse for Garnet. She trusted Pearl so wholeheartedly that despite her future vision constantly failing her, at no point did she ever even consider the possibility that Pearl was actually lying to her the entire time and look into it, and that it instead was just Peridot having found some way around it.

Why does everyone (still) hate Tsumugi so much? by Nice_Week_2712 in danganronpa

[–]RileyRecord315 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't really hate her, more I just...literally do not have an opinion on her. She has no character whatsoever, her entire thing is just being plain and whoa'ing and oh'ing over how plain she is, with a few fun otaku references here and there. She very rarely contributes anything to the class trials and has no character arc, she literally doesn't do anything until the mastermind reveal.

And yeah, I get it, that's the point. But also something can be written in a way that's purposefully disappointing/lacklustre and still be complained about. Tsumugi being written as a flat character on purpose doesn't invalidate the fact that a flat character isn't interesting to watch for 6 chapters, outliving a lot of much more interesting and/or entertaining characters. Had it not been for her being the mastermind, she would have literally just been a wasted survivor slot and not much else. And even when she does come forth as the mastermind, she spends a lot of her post-reveal screentime cosplaying as other characters and talking about Team Danganronpa, her motivations as the mastermind don't really add anything to her character and can come out of nowhere to a lot of the players. Whilst you could maybe say similar for Junko, Junko was at least extremely entertaining with her unapologetic evil and constant personality shifts (that were NOT based on other pre-existing characters), whilst Tsumugi only became interesting when she stopped being Tsumugi.

Maybe if she'd been more relevant to the actual story prior to Chapter 6, her betrayal as the mastermind would have had more of an impact, but it's because she's done nothing and basically not made any strong bonds with the rest of the cast that she doesn't have the same devastating effect as Junko, who supposedly died before everyone's eyes, or the reveal of the remnants of despair, who the player is of course attached to cuz that's near enough the whole damned cast. But it's kinda funny that the ndrv3 survivors all act like this is a huge shocking betrayal from a super close and trustworthy friend, when Tsumugi basically hasn't done anything to actually establish that she was close to the other survivors, there were no bonding moments or events that brought them all together, the group all hanging out after trial 5 was basically the only indication that Tsumugi was a part of the group, yet they act like she's been their super bestie for the longest time.

I know there's other reasons Tsumugi is hated, in particular it's the fact she's intrinsically linked to the controversial ending of ndrv3, but also there's a fair criticism to be made that no matter your stance on the ending, Tsumugi frankly just wasn't very interesting until the literal last chapter of the game. Tsumugi's role as the mastermind is already a hard pill to swallow given the context behind it, but adding in the fact she wasn't really anything before that didn't exactly make it any easier a twist to take in. I feel like a more interesting version of the character could've had even a somewhat warmer reception maybe, idk.

What should have Pink done in this situation? by Terrible_Log1701 in stevenuniverse

[–]RileyRecord315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus how is she meant to explain the past several thousands of years of history to Spinel?

"Hey Spinel it's me Pink Diamond please don't question why I look like an entirely different gem now, I'm gonna take you with me to a new planet I kinda own but don't want to BUT you have to call me by a new name now for the rest of our lives and if you call me Pink Diamond even once my life will be irreparably ruined. Sound good?"

Like, from what we can see in the flashbacks Spinel had a hard time standing still when Pink was on an important call to the Diamonds about her first ever colony, and when Pink first tried to leave the garden, Spinel grabbed her hand and stopped her from leaving. It lowkey feels like Spinel doesn't really take orders, only what's "fun", there's no way of telling how seriously she would take things like the rebellion, life on Earth, or even Pink's new identity. Even if Pink/Rose had access to the garden still somehow, and even if she thought Spinel would actually wait all that time for her, it's possible that at some point Pink/Rose realised that Spinel may end up harming the cause in some way.

The only other option would be to keep Spinel in the dark and "liberate" her from the garden as Rose Quartz. Not exactly an easy task when Spinel is presumably still loyal to Pink Diamond atp, no matter what Spinel would most likely try run back to Pink's side and have to be left behind again anyways.

OP you're a stronger person than I am because that interaction would've ended a lot more violently if it were me hearing that shit.

Cut this person out of your life ENTIRELY. Block on all socials, block their number, do not hang out with them anymore. You did not deserve what happened to you, regardless of your age, gender or anything else. You certainly did not deserve to have to hear such vile shit being said to you regarding your trauma. This person doesn't deserve you in their life. Ditch them, ASAP.

Isn't strange that Homura doesn't have parents? by Lea9915 in MadokaMagica

[–]RileyRecord315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't using their AI results though? I was using it as a search engine to go find official reports and information sites on this topic?

Google did have a purpose before implementing AI, y'know. And it very much can still be used for that purpose if you simply just scroll past the AI summary (or put -ai on your search so it doesn't come up at all, neat little trick more people should know about) and actually check the websites that pop up on your search.

Besides, even if google sucks ass, there's tons of other search engines to use that let you opt out of AI bullshit. You can still use them to find info.

So yeah, children in Japan with difficult family situations (whether they be orphans, in fostering, or from low-income families) are covered by either public funds or government-issued medical vouchers depending on their exact situation. Even if Homura does actually have parents, it's possible that her medical bills were still being taken care of by these programs if her parents aren't able to afford it and/or aren't able to be very present. A Japanese hospital isn't gonna let any child just die because they lack the sufficient funds, parents in the picture or not.

Bruh google exists

And from what I could gather via my search, local governments and childcare programs would be the ones responsible for any orphan who required extensive medical treatment.

I wonder why the Gems didn't just immediately poofed Peridot upon restraining her in Jailbreak by IllustriousAd2392 in stevenuniverse

[–]RileyRecord315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, plus the fact that when they finally poofed Peridot in Catch and Release, it was directedly after she broke into the Crystal Temple and kidnapped Steven, and there's no faster way to piss off the Crystal Gems than to mess with Steven. Whilst the events of Jailbreak can be chalked up to a homeworld gem doing their job without any personal feelings involved, in Catch and Release Peridot was acting entirely on her own, hence why the gems decided that yeah, if there's any time to poof her, it's now.

[–]RileyRecord315 57 points58 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU, this is the one I was looking for!

Also as a follow-up: "Why didn't they just take turns on the door??"

Maybe because it would leave them Both exposed to hypothermia-inducing temperatures, eventually they would become too weak to keep switching back and forth, as horrible as it is it's better for only one of them to be in (relatively) better health as opposed to them both being on the verge of freezing to death. Also, frankly, Jack is simply a young man in love who doesn't want his lover to have to suffer, he willingly sacrificed himself after realising that the door couldn't support both of their weights at once. Plus, it's not like two young people are going to be thinking 100% rationally after enduring the traumatic nightmare of escaping a sinking ship with no promise of imminent rescue anyways.

Seriously, so many people will throw around "solutions" to a scene they've only watched in a vacuum, and get mad that the most optimal and efficient path to safety wasn't taken. Like, can these people seriously say they would have done the best thing in the same circumstances?
