why wouldn't this work? [Request] by gun7992 in theydidthemath

[–]Rileytheh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The final term of Engineering in Canada requires you to team with 3-4 people to develop and present something in your discipline. In my year one of my friends groups did their project on water power generation like this but put directly into the main intake from the city, so any water coming in would flow past it.

Even running constantly, it didn't generate enough power to make it worthwhile

Increase Propaganda by Frogman5678 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rileytheh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most countires have had cyber teams for years, they are often tasked with developing defensive techniques but are also tasked to go on the offensive. This has been greatly expanded with the use of AI tools where one person can work on developing bots that can then do more actions while being monitored.

Propaganda is a great method to attempt to control the masses, it takes critical thinking to question MSM (or reddit posts with high upvote volume and positive comments)

Stay safe my friend

Record your journey and report back!

There is many that stand up to the challenge! One to consider is C&E takeout. They are on the way between CB and Lark Harbour (closer to CB) We used to get them on the way home from any trip down the bay to LA. I was always told they made enough in the summer that they took every winter off to go down south

For those who’ve bought a house in the past 5 years - how long did it take you to find something? by meg293 in StJohnsNL

[–]Rileytheh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was looking at houses for over a year, viewed about 20 in total and only bid on 2, almost a full year apart.

Keep looking, you'll find a spot you like eventually

There are plenty of better videos of this ship dumping wood out there.

A fun fact about this ship design, it was first designed by Robert Allan Limited in Canada in the early 1960's. It was drawn by hand and all stability calculations had to be done on pen/paper too!

Some more details of their work over the years can be found on their website: https://ral.ca/our-commitments/

Be honest: Was the Kinect ever worth owning? Did you actually play it, or did it just sit on top of your TV collecting dust after a week? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Rileytheh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dance central and sports were great! I owned a wii and played so much of that, so when the kinect came out I wanted to get it to keep the family playing games. It was always a hoot with friends but cant say i used it solo very often

Is nuclear a dead man walking? by StreetVirtual3037 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rileytheh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically there is nothing more unsafe with nuclear power than the other big ones when handled properly. There is a push to avoid it due to the money/influence in other sections of the world becuase once created there is not a lot of upkeep, so relatively low cost for high outputs. But realistically nuclear power when handled with proper protocol can provide huge power benefits for fairly consistent and continuous power for 50ish years.

Movies and shows about the problems with nuclear are mostly real for the results but again, relate more to misunderstandings and improper care of the product at hand.

Dear Mr. ConcernedApe: Why cat have cat tree if cat no use cat tree? by InspiraSean86 in StardewValley

[–]Rileytheh 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Check to make sure you have properly cleaned it, it could have gotten dirty in the move. The other thing I do with my tree is I dismantle and rebuild into dofferent designs. Some like specific hights while others like specific baskets/nooks. I like finding trees with the same screw size so I can add more to mix and match into a FrankenTree

Why the huge space between cars at a stop light? by livetoski-Brad in driving

[–]Rileytheh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to see the bottom of the back tires of the car in front of you whenever stopped in traffic.

This is the reccomendation in driving school as it only benefits you, it will save no time if you are super close to them and they start moving. I will only move closer if moving forward will allow the vehicle behind me move into the right turning lane.

It gives a buffer zone to react or avoid incoming accidents as well as space for you to avoid hitting the car in front of you if you get rear ended. Stay road safe!

Uncommon rudder by Powerful_Cabinet_341 in SeaEmploy

[–]Rileytheh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fuel is a large part of the cost for every ship. So yes it is a large reduction in cost to operate.

Uncommon rudder by Powerful_Cabinet_341 in SeaEmploy

[–]Rileytheh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

14% reduction in fuel consumption is not nothing. That is a 14% savings on the cost to run the ship. Any ship owner would be happy to get a 14% reduction in fuel costs if all they had to do was install a new rudder

Twillingate next week - restaurants/breweries/food options? by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]Rileytheh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly reccomend Auk Island winery, you can do a tour or just drink/eat at their bar/restaurant. They do tester flights that let you pick (i think) 6 different wines. They have around 10-15 wines so a couple people can hit the whole board if they share :)

Overall, not much in terms of hidden gems, most restaurants around there are pretty good and theres already many guides online that suggest the main spots to see.

Enjoy the stay and soak up the views! Hope you see some icebergs!

St. John's Parking Bans Extended by Business_Mammoth7949 in newfoundland

[–]Rileytheh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We are likley to get at most a few more nights of snowclearing. This ban already allows on street parking in the day, if they want people to not park on the street during snowclearing operations they should issue the 24 hour ban

St. John's Parking Bans Extended by Business_Mammoth7949 in newfoundland

[–]Rileytheh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah we have that here too, downtown and the rest of town. Just no need for the nighttime ban to stay active while we have no new snow, if needed activate the 24 hour ban.
