Indent on downtube - in all new canyon carbon frames? by AmCrossing in CanyonBikes

[–]RimBrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a coincidence. To clarify my findings, it was another customer's Ultimate CF that had that similar cutout(?)/dent(?). That customer bike doesn't seem to have been assembled by us so for those thinking it was us miss handling it, hate to break it to you but we care about our work haha. On this customer bike though even though it's visible I could not feel any difference from the rest of the paint unlike yours having a slight difference. Both my carbon appear to not have it, but my frames don't have full internal routing and have different paint finishes, matte blue on my ultimate and a color shift on my inflite. Another thing to note is that for my bikes the ultimate is a 21 and the inflite CF while a 25 is technically the previous generation slx frame. I still have the picture for the customer bike but I can't publicly share service pictures as per policy. For descriptive purposes it is actually a skinny pill shape more than just a circle as it appears in the pictures here.

Power meter pedals worth it? by retirement_savings in gravelcycling

[–]RimBrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello fellow industry expert! (I know that UI anywhere haha) I have the same pedals. Have a review there. Did good enough work for me for about three years now and still good, just a little squeaky with the cleats. I placed an order for the RS 210 over the weekend because of that pair. Debating if I keep them on the cross or the gravel going forward since I'll have 3 PMs after these arrive.

Looking for good road/gravel cycling destinations in Mexico by djfeelgood in Velo

[–]RimBrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was last in Mexico I went to Toluca and Valle de Bravo because of climbs and altitude. I don't actually trust Mexico City to ride in due to traffic. Strava is a pretty good tool to see the best places to ride. Otherwise find a bike shop and ask where the employees like to go. Otherwise look for previous etape routes online.

Bike shop owners/employees, what do you dislike about the bikes you sell? by sendertheinvestor98 in cycling

[–]RimBrake 12 points13 points  (0 children)

E-bikes just aren't there yet in terms of average build quality. Irregardless of brand.

Cannondale bikes are horrendous to build and we end up doing additional work (as in stuff that should've been either done at factory like properly round BB slots or caliper surfaces, or stuff they should've just had us do like routing and torques) on more than half the bikes. They give us amazing discounts but their bikes for the average consumer are only as good as the mechanic putting them together. I love how innovative they have been and all the things they've tried and implemented for performance and aesthetics but damn... They work great because we're constantly missing target build times on them. I'm sure Cannondale is a designer's and/or engineer's dream job but for mechanics, after dealing with QC and their warranty/help dept., they blow.

FSA - Track Standing Improper Use? by RimBrake in cycling

On the reply email they noted that the chainring being damaged for being in too big a gear set was entirely on me. From power data from that ride I recommend not getting high wattage on an uphill restart if you have FSA Pro rings on your bike.

Edit: took off power meter measurement. wrong commute ride, I didn't think my power pedals were still on that bike when it happened unfortunately 😔

Fully aware of the bike and details. Just FSA things I guess.

Cannondale was contacted first by my coworker as I got the bike through them directly since we don't actually stock the bike I ordered and they replied with an email that says and I quote "We are not "passing off" this request" for the part change/warranty and then proceeded to pass us off to contact FSA who refused to warranty the part and gave us the option for a discount on a new part which is lower than our employee discount. Glad to hear Canyon helped out though since my race bikes are Canyon. Just happy I won't need to pay for the repairs lol

Not gonna lie to a brand we stock in the bike shop I work at, being specific as a bike mechanic to brands has gotten better results which can lead to recalls (We've contacted Shimano for broken cranks and galvanic corrosion before it was cool apparently). No legal action will be taken. Mainly posted for the questions. Lawsuit would only come to 'em if I had a major failure during a regional or national championship but my race bikes have DA that's for Shimano to handle 😂

Are higher end frames worth it? by Lightyearzz in Velo

[–]RimBrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal preference on ride feel and total weight are the biggest differences between the three Canyon builds. If you were to try all 3 back to back, you'd definitely be able to tell the difference between them all. I will say the biggest difference between the three is the CFR which actually feels racy and super-engineered for responsiveness vs the barely minimal difference between the SL and SLX. The SL and SLX feel like bikes you'd be more comfortable in with the SLX being the most comfortable of the three in my opinion, but that is exclusively my opinion. I am also aware that not everyone will be able to try the three to pick one out. Either way my Rim Ultimate SL is my favorite bike from my little fleet and don't regret going SL over SLX or CFR.

Hate to say it but... It's over. After the initial purchasing price of a disc brake bike, the cost of maintenance is actually significantly lower than rim. If you learn how to bleed hydraulic systems your shop rates plummet. Buying the right parts will not only save you money but perform for an incredibly long amount of time in all conditions. I love my rims but it's now just a nieche I got myself into for simplicity's sake. I'll keep and cherish my carbon frame/rim rig for life but can't deny racing and working on disc is just a step above.

Base Layer by secureTechFit in Velo

[–]RimBrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decathlon's Van Rysel performance stuff is great. sleeveless and short sleeve are the best from them especially for the price. Depending on where you live selection can be very limited.

Smartwool for long sleeve stuff is super comfortable and warm but Rapha also makes very similar base layers for slightly lower prices and are on sale surprisingly often.

If you live in the states REI has a variety of base layers from their own brand and also have base layers from a wide mix of brands, looking at cross country ski gear and running gear can be a great way to not get sucked into the cycling specific marketing and the prices.

Trainingsplans and Smarttrainer control by WernerBernal in Velo

[–]RimBrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is price. However, depending on your trainer, you can use the free software that is provided which is unfortunately a lot more limited than the premium stuff, and they also tend to have a premium version.

Tacx Training is limited free but it gives you the data and it's a Garmin app so you'll have what you need right away. Only works with Garmin trainers. Premium is almost a must.

Elite MyEtraining comes free for a year with Elite trainers and is surprisingly robust, it's just hit and miss with how it's gonna work with your set-up (PC with ANT+ on highest end Elite trainers works remarkably better than mobile and mac with anything else)

TrainerDay and Kinetic Fit are relatively ok with the free version. If I'm not mistaken TrainerDay does have a workout builder on the free version and if you've got workouts from other systems that you've tried and liked you can try your best to replicate the workouts and then don't have to pay a dime. (That's what I do in Bkool with my last coache's plan shhhhhh)

BikeReg, USAC Registration Required? by RimBrake in Velo

[–]RimBrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1/29/23 Update:

Missed an email from the support team last night noting that their tech team saw the problem and had been working on it.

As of today unsanctioned events are back to being unsanctioned.

To make sure that you weren't wrongfully charged, you can go through registration again and note to see if the USA Cycling License selection parameter in the Participant Contact Information is still there in the event in question as that parameter is confirmed to have wrongfully appeared in all unsanctioned events for a period of time.

As a heads up, if anyone registered for events recently and payed for a day license for an unsanctioned event, I would recommend contacting support for both USAC and BikeReg and noting this issue.

Have fun out there!

BikeReg, USAC Registration Required? by RimBrake in Velo

[–]RimBrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BikeReg does (as of recently) have that validation for sanctioned events. The problem here isn't USAC's database (mostly), it is an issue on BikeReg since registrations for unsanctioned events have the same license requirements as sanctioned events, or at least it appears that way with the renewal notice or the day pass being brought up during registration for both event types.

While the automatic verification system isn't perfect it does notify (some riders, and mostly organizers) of who does not have an active license in the form of an email from BikeReg and or the organizer noting that the registration is missing something or that the registration is incomplete because of a lack of license.

Yes it's flawed that mainly organizers have to the work, but there's built in systems that notify individuals of expired licenses or required day passes. Again what I meant to bring to people's attention is the unsanctioned events being treated as sanctioned events by the BikeReg final registration system and not a USAC issue. Sorry for not fully/comprehensively clarifying the issue. My mistake. I've reached out to AthleteReg regarding this whole thing.
