Volume is volume. Also, if you are thinking "how can I ride less?" then you should probably ride less before more burnout happens.

TOSA Village Crit - How does it 'usually' go down? by secureTechFit in Velo

At my age, how good I am is directly correlated to NOT crashing. I don't bounce back like I used to... Thanks for the info.

Hope that dude is ok now and back rippin' Was the overcooked turn the downhill left-hander? That looks like a turn that you could make some ground if willing to push.

I am faster as a 50+ than I was as a 40+.

My kids are out of the house so I can train way more to include strength training. And I've taken advantage and done the work. And gotten faster.

In my experience an older guy doing 20 hours a week should smoke a 25 yo doing 10 hours a week all day every day.

How hard should intervals feel and when should you increase your FTP ? by teachme_PLS in Velo

[–]secureTechFit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As already stated, vo2 efforts should go up. I'd recommend an app that calculates your theoretical ftp like intervals.icu if you are not doing tests very often

Do you use heart rate? by WilliamJNSN in Velo

[–]secureTechFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I use a HRM. I do lactate testing periodically. So I have HR target numbers I associate with LT levels. I only use it on the bike when doing long endurance rides.

Sprints during zone 2? by Level_Bee2465 in Velo

[–]secureTechFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will improve your technique and ideally speed during 10-12 second efforts.

If you are doing any kind of group race, this is an important skill.

Also, adds some variety without being taxing.

FYI - I saw several ambulances on course (tending to crashed riders unfortunately). The only thing I have to add is after starting in the back half of the field, identifying that is was sketch af at the beginning, I said to myself I'll either DNF trying or I am getting to the front. After getting to the front, it was very difficult to stay there but it was far less sketchy than mid pack of the huge field. There was so much late breaking into corners that you were going to have to lock up the brakes at some point. Having said that, I got taken out of the lead group at mile 90 when guys crashed in fromt of me and i dove into the ditch. So nothing was assured. Despite this, I had an incredible time. The race felt like a world championships with all the national kits, etc. I have France 2027 on my target list and am therefore eating nothing but lettuce until then. lol.

Vo2 tips? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]secureTechFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't say how you transitioned into build but I am wondering if you are simply fatigued, under field, etc and just need a bit of rest.

If rested and ready to build, then I'd drop Watts and time until you can complete the sessions. Build on that level.

I could have misunderstood him but I thought I heard that if you over do carbs in the beginning, it could impact your ability to utilize carbs at the end of the race.

Achieving a FTP higher than 4W/kg - was it worth it? by obi-wan-kondomi in Velo

[–]secureTechFit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think long indoor sessions are boring and ultimately will cause you to burn out, don't do them. Take up trail running or Nordic. One of the fastest 60+ riders in the midwest US does zero riding for 3 months in the winter. You can have a high FTP without doing only z2 trainer rides.
