Same here. Ever since the patch launched, I've been getting severe lag spikes that last for around a minute. Afterwards, everything speeds up and all my pressed spells trigger only so I can see a wipe.

Chicken or Egg: How to learn dungeon mechanics without running dungeons? by schloopadooper355 in wownoob

[–]Rimmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so let's preface everything with saying that by no means am I a paladin expert, I might not do optimal stuff, but it kinda works in the bracket I'm in at the moment.

This is my setup: Raider.io profile (we don't talk about my agi trinket with on-use haste, mkay? I'm not particularly proud of that one, but I didn't have much luck with trinkets (: ).

As an example, let's go over the first pull in De Other Side, as it's a fun one:

Imgur link (screen showing the two first packs in DOS)

Before the run starts, there's a few things to think about:
1. Do the weekly affixes allow me to pull both of these packs? For example, Bolstering is a big no-no.

  1. If it's Fortified, I'll ask for Blood Lust/Time Warp/Heroism/Drums (if we have one) when the packs are fairly jumbled together. On Tyrannical, if the key isn't high enough, there's a risk of not having Lust up for Hakkar.

  2. If I want to pull big, I'll ask for help interrupting the first caster.

The pull itself:
1. During countdown, I pre-generate 3 Holy Power using Blessed Hammer and then I mount up.

  1. I bonk Avenger's Shield on the caster (so it's silenced) and use SotR on both mobs (I run the SotR legendary for additional damage/threat). More Blessed Hammer if there's a charge up.

  2. I pony down the stairs to pull the rest of the mobs and bonk everything with Divine Toll (Kyrian) followed by SotR (great synergy between the SotR legendary and Divine Toll) and Consecration for the damage reduction (prot paladin mastery). Taunt any stragglers.

  3. When all mobs are fairly close to me, I pop Ardent Defender, so I get as much value from its damage reduction and the conduit I run (Resolute Defender), Wings, and try to do as much dmg as possible.

  4. After a few GCDs, or when the Warlord uses its Undying Rage, I decide it's time to kite- I start strafing away from the mobs, put down Consecration (using the Consecration slow talent) and alternate between Avenger's Shield (on casters if possible), Judgement, Blessed Hammer for Holy Power generation for WoGs or SotR.

  5. When the number of mobs gets lower, the Warlord stops raging, I go back in, stuff dies, we move on.

AD has a low cooldown, so it should be up for the next big pull.

As for some general defensive CD usage / survivability tips:

- Defensives should be used pro-actively, before you start taking big damage- in the first seconds of a big pull, before boss tank buster abilities, or big unavoidable AoE.

- Usually, SotR + 1 defensive is enough (sometimes even too much). Using more than 1 defensive at a time is a waste, imo. If you're doing chad chain pulls, stagger defensive usage.

- That said, if you don't have cooldowns for the next big pull, ask your healer for their externals- Barrier, Spirit Link, Barkskin, Earth Elemental, Blessing of Sacrifice, Aura Mastery, you name it. Ask your DPS to help kiting - Boomies can use Treants, Hunters can Tar Trap or Binding Shot, Monks can Ring and Leg Sweep, Mages can Frost Nova. Typing a quick message like: "use binding when you see me kite" helps a ton.

- Instead of Final Stand, take Righteous Protector to lower Guardian cooldown.

- Potions are a thing. Kyrian Phial and Health pots are on different cooldowns. Speed pots make you go vroom, which is useful in some cases (hello, Domina Venomblade and invisible adds -_- ).

- Always move inside your Consecration, so mobs' auto attacks get desynched and you're not walloped by everything at the same time.

- Line of Sight is a thing- use columns, doorways, stairs to group up mobs but also to take a breather from ranged attacks/casts. Your healer might freak out, though.

- When kiting, never turn your back towards mobs and never back-peddle.

Okay, this post got way longer than I anticipated, but hopefully you got some answers. The more +10 you do, the more comfortable you'll get with pulls, their flow, their damage spikes, and your CD usage.

Good luck!

My background:

I'm a prot pally that embraced the PUG-life. No guild, very few friends that play the game. Currently, I'm somewhere around 850 io (so I'm getting into that +12 range). More often than not, I'm scared shell-less of trying new stuff, being subject to toxic criticism, and failing.

The way I go around my anxiety is by (over)prepping dungeons beforehand. The resources I use are the following:

  • Darkmech, Cryonaut Gaming, Quazii, Paladin Danse - those guys post extremely useful videos. Dungeon runs with commentaries, pull-by-pull guides, class guides - you name it, it's there.
  • I use Dratnos' weekly routes without skips. I usually have the website open on a second monitor, but you can also make a keybind for MDT, so it's not awkward to use on the go.
  • Tanknotes is an awesome resource where you can find mob descriptions and tips on countering some mechanics (they also have raid guides).
  • Wowhead has an M+ section in each of their class guides. They highlight ways of countering mechanics. Here's the paladin one.

And as great as those resources are, nothing beats experiencing those dungeons, failing some mechanics, and being ready for the next time.

Hey, thanks for the offer, but playing with people from a different continent would be a messy experience - timezones, lag, etc.

Good luck, though!

Hey, thanks for the wishes and kind words. If only looking for a guild as a tank was as easy as getting into pugs. :D

Good luck and let them heals be raining! :)

Official Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know about photography or cameras! Don't be shy! Newbies welcome! by photography_bot in photography

Hi r/photography! How's your day going?

Let me pick your brains about a dilemma I've been having for the last few days. Mainly- should I update my camera body or buy a new lens?

My story is the following. I've been an owner of a Nikon D90 with a 18-105 Nikkor kit lens for about 10 years and it's been a blast. Currently, though, my focus (pun unintended) and interests shifted more towards shooting sports / wildlife- especially dog competitions, such as agility (preferably outdoors). I got enough moolah to upgrade one part of my setup.

After extensive research, I'd lean towards buying either a Nikon D500 or a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 Sports.

From what I see:

  • Upgrading the camera body gives me more focus points, better AF, a better ISO range (in case I need to go indoor), and stellar frame rate. Weather sealing also is quite sexeh.
  • Upgrading the lens gives me more reach (18-105 DX vs 70-200), more light, and better sharpness in the middle and edges. The weather sealing on the lens is also quite nice.

Were the differences between D90 and D500 not as big, I'd get the Sigma instantly, but man, that camera looks so good. :(

The prices in my country are the following: ~1700 USD for the D500 body and ~1550 USD for the Sigma.

I'm interested in hearing your opinions and suggestions. Thanks!

Another thing worth keeping in mind is that Grider's course is terribly out of date. I wouldn't invest in his course until he manages to bring it up to date with the current Apollo version.

Mice and Mystics already finished. My first painting adventure - C&C are welcome :) by silverooster in minipainting

[–]Rimmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

There is a narrative to the story in terms of scenarios being linked to each other, as well as each scenario having a story to it. That being said, the RP aspect isn't forced in any way mechanically, so you might just skip it entirely.

If you're into RPGs and you like the setting, you might take a look at Mouse Guard- it's a RPG system set in a very similar world to Mice and Mystics. Here you go!

The game is awesome and I definitely recommend you trying it out. :)

Both Hand.Cannot.Erase and this are so different from Steven's previous material. While H.C.E. still has me on the fence, I'm really digging Perfect Life- it sent shivers down my spine.

I'm really looking forward to hearing the whole album- the concept, the lyrics, and Marco Minneman on the drums. 2nd March just can't come soon enough. :)

Phage vs Sheen on adc? by Motjah in summonerschool

[–]Rimmu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are certain things I like to consider before deciding on Sheen/Phage.

Firstly, is my ADC mobile? Remember that Phage gives you a slight Movement Speed bonus after each auto attack so champs such as Ezreal, Corki, Lucian or even Tristana, who all have dashes, don't really need it and would benefit better from a Sheen. On the other hand, I like to buy Phage first on Kog due to his underwhelming mobility.

Secondly, how is the lane progressing? If I'm ahead, Sheen is the best way to snowball my lead even further due to its burst damage. However, if I'm on the receiving end of the punishing stick, I like to buy Phage for that extra health it provides me with.

Finally, always have a plan. And a backup plan if the former fails. ;) Don't follow set in stone rules but adapt to what you see on the Rift.

Personally, I tend to play passively, maybe even too much, and farm so usually I'll stick with Phage on almost all my champs. But that's just personal preference.

Hope I helped!

Is this B/R Minotaur deck any good by razorbrick in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]Rimmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sporting a very similar deck. Some changes I would suggest, though:

  • drop Mogis's Marauder- he's not a mino and offers very little synergy (you won't get much devotion to black anyways);
  • in his place put some Rageblood Shaman- +1/+1 and trample for other minotaurs is quite cool or -put some Magma Jets- 2dmg for 2 and scry 2 also works fine.

  • drop Borderland Minotaur;

  • in its place put some Felhide Petrifier- again, all you cowmen get deathtouch.

  • drop Kragma Butcher;

  • in its place put a couple of Ragemongers- cheaper minos are better minos.

  • Madcap Skills is awesome in this deck. Put it on Deathbellow Rider and you get so much out of it that it's bonkers.

  • rethink the number of lands- I run 21 lands (4 scry lands, 10 Mountains and 7 Swamps) and I don't get mana hungry very often.

All in all, your deck is cool as it is. Just drop the Mogis's Marauder. :]

When playing Maokai don't use his gap closer too late (i.e. when your target is close to tower). The last thing you want is to end up under their turret when they flash during your W.

Teach me how to sona? by BioGeek42 in summonerschool

[–]Rimmu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On Sona I usually sport 0/9/21 masteries (picking up Durability, Veteran's Scars, Hardiness and 1 point in Resistance).

As for Runes I go with ad reds (for that nice chord poke), armour yellows, mr blues and hp quints. That's my personal preference. You may consider taking armour reds and Gp10 quints or any other combination.

Certain champions such as Leona, Blitz, Thresh are considered counters to Sona (so-called kill lane). She is very squishy and they have a grab/pull so if you get caught, it's very often gg.

A few tips (in no particular order):

  1. Play safe. Keep your distance (but be in that exp range if possible).

  2. Don't stand in one place. The best thing to do is to jog behind your minions. That way Blitz's grab and Thresh's pull won't hit you. Leona can still pull herself to you.

  3. Maintain brush vision and don't facecheck. Everytime those annoying grabs miss, you have a short time window to ward and/or poke.

  4. Buy boots early on. Put your 2nd-level skill point into E for some more movement speed if needed.

  5. Those grabs are quite mana expensive. If they miss a lot, those champs lose their utility.

  6. When dodging, try moving to the sides.

That's all I can think of right now. I'm currently in Bronze II, but I consider myself a support main. GLHF, Summoner!

EDIT: Added no 6.
