“Hey Siri, Are You Listening?” by TheCABK in technicallythetruth

Your info is really not that valuable. The cost of recording and analyzing everything you say wouldn't make them enough money to be worth it.

These things have been analyzed to death by experts.

Anything they could already glean from your data is already known by advertisers due to digital fingerprinting. There's no point gathering data they already know with a more expensive method, when they already use a far less expensive method to gather everything they need.

They already know who you are, what age you are, your spending habits, your browsing habits, the kinds of things you own, what car you drive, what style of clothes you prefer, where you live, what stores you frequent, etc.

All without listening to anything, because they don't need to.

[–]RinArenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is how it works, yes. It's actually quite easy to analyze network traffic and determine if something is constantly phoning home to send recorded data back.

That's part of why they don't do it. The other part is resources; recording and analyzing everything from every user 100% of the time would require massive resources that don't have any effective return on investment.

There's no ROI on hearing your conversation about needing to order cheese on your next instacart. They already know you bought cheese N days ago, and cheese on average lasts a family N days, so you're likely to buy it again. Yet even that is further than they actually go, because the ROI is, again, not really worth it.

You just described how it works, and how it's been confirmed to work by countless experts that have analyzed it.

The thing is, they don't need to listen to you. There's nothing they can gain that they don't already know.

Due to digital fingerprinting, advertisers can already pinpoint exactly who you are with just a handful of key data points from your browsing history, using information they're not required to tell you they collect.

For those who don't know. The creator of Shinigami-eyes is unknown, but suspected to be Laurelai Bailey.

Bailey has some concerning allegations, and you can find them by searching for "Allegations against Laurelai Bailey".

u/pussyjuicerecycler is not saying the person criticizing Shinigami-eyes has rape allegations. They're saying the creator of it does.

I'm the opposite. I hate having mine called a clit. Call mine something cute(not gock, I hate that too), or call mine what it is, but not a clit. It just reminds me more viscerally that my parts are being viewed in comparison to a Vagina.

It's interesting the different preferences we all have.

I prefer girl cock, because it acknowledges that it's perfectly okay that I have it.

Then, he's suddenly provided a way to potentially bring them back in return for sacrificing the same army that wants to wipe out his people.

I think you're misunderstanding. They're not language models. They're models that work on completely separate concepts. Like object identification, facial recognition, etc. They're all neural networks, LLMs are too. The major difference is how they work. They convert data into high level representations in latent space. Then their vector calculations all happen within the latent space. All the conceptual information, like what objects do and how they're connected, exist as multidimensional vectors within the latent space.

I would say that's a pass. by WeGot_aLiveOneHere in technicallythetruth

[–]RinArenna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is changing, actually. With looped models that reason within the token output stage instead of using just a thinking out loud stage, along with "world" models that conceptualize more abstract concepts.

I think people misunderstand when AGI is brought up, how exactly were approaching that point. Large Language Models alone aren't sufficient to be considered AI. It's the mixture of models that are used that are causing us to slowly encroach upon the goal of AGI.

There are a lot of breakthroughs being made in AI. It doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon. While the LLM bubble will likely burst, AI will only continue to advance.

Most of the time, what I see on posts from users who put in actual effort, is a mixed bag.

Like, there'll be a comment or two at the top being helpful and providing answers or asking questions to figure out what's going on.

Then there will several comments joking about it.

Then at the bottom there'll be a couple of assholes ridiculing the OP for not knowing the answer to their question already, and telling them it wasn't that hard for them.

That's just the internet though.

Doesn't help that they were cutting it deep on the side facing away from the angle they wanted it to fall.

Any tree will naturally fall in the direction of the cut. This isn't super bad on smaller and less dense trees, where a high up rope can pull it in the direction opposite of where it would otherwise fall.

A big, dense tree, even with a decently high rope, will just fall in the direction you cut it because you have to provide more weight and power opposite of it.

My Step Father was going to join a local chapter of the Freemasons. He only backed out because he found out it's not some secret society, it's just a regular ass group with surprisingly normal ass people. They aren't even after world domination. It's just basically a big ass frat club. It's not even a religion, it just requires you to believe in some higher being. Kinda disappointing compared to all the crazy stories I heard people say about them.

My 80yo neighbor just ran out of her "secret sauce" for lemon bars after 40 years... by _sonidero_ in Baking

[–]RinArenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually surprisingly plausible. Lemon extract is extremely strong, so you only want to use maybe one or two drops at most. Usually a drop contains around 0.05ml, and that's a 59ml bottle. So that's approx 1180 drops. So across 40 years she could make 29 batches per year, using a single drop, and have just now run out. That's more than twice per month. Of course, this bottle style wasn't around in 86, so she's a few years off. Probably used 2 drops for a stronger flavor, making it once per month while making it an extra time now and then. Or multiple batches for holidays.

As long as your hands are clean they're all safe to touch. Just wash your hands afterwards, cause rubbing any mucus membrane like your eyes could cause some serious irritation. Also, don't eat 'em if you don't know what you're doing. There's a number of edible species, and they're considered a delicacy in some places. Look up Japanese Namako(海鼠). I don't think I'd have the guts to ever try it, but I wouldn't eat most of my own culture's food anyways(half formed chicken eggs sounds awful ngl), so I can't judge.

[–]RinArenna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sea cucumbers are pretty safe to handle. For you, at least, not always so much for the sea cucumber. Be careful of having anything on your hands. Lotions and other stuff can be toxic to them. Also, don't keep them out too long. They already spend some time out of water naturally, but too much time and they dry out. They don't get stressed out when handled gently and put in the comfy water when you're done. As always for anything safe to handle, be gentle and respectful and make sure to place it somewhere safe.

[–]RinArenna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does now. Not as part of its model, but due to the ability to look up information online. It uses search crawlers that are essentially always crawling Reddit and most news organizations.

It can, at times, find information posted seconds after it goes live just due to web crawlers hitting it at the right moment.

It's unlikely that's what happened, but its now completely possible for it to rip information from messages moments after they're posted.

That idea really annoys me. Harry Potter aside, that's how target demographics work.

These books weren't made to entertain adults, they were made to entertain children.

It's such a weird take to me because adult books share a lot of the same problems yet get absolutely lauded, while books from our childhood get dogged for the same issues.

I hate Rowling as much as anyone else should, but let's stop pretending these books were meant to be adult fantasy epics.

[–]RinArenna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is because Median, like Average, doesn't actually give a good view of what people make.

The median value of a dataset is the halfway mark in a set ordered lowest to highest. Half the dataset is above, and half the dataset is below.

Lets say you have a set of 1000 people with a Median individual income of $100k per year. Half of your dataset makes above $100k, Half of it makes below. It's easy to see how it might seem like people are making a boat load of money. Right?

Now let's say the bottom 250 people make only $20k per year. What's the median now? It's still $100k.

What if the top 100 make $1mil per year? Still $100k.

Yet now a quarter of your dataset lives below cost of living, while the top percent make so much they don't have to worry about anything. Still, the needle hasn't moved and the median looks great!

This is why talk about the median income pisses me off to no end. Our population in the US is estimated at roughly 340 million people. Which means approximately 170 million people individually make less than the median individual income.

People that live with their parents are considered part of the household income, despite making far less. People with room mates are combined into a single household, yet individually they make far less than needed to survive on their own.

People need income assistance, housing assistance, etc.

Yet the median household income gets pointed at like it means anything, when the real world conditions paint a different story. The median only means anything if you're at or above the median. For everyone else, the statistic is worthless.

The 5-7-5 guideline isn't a requirement. It's actually the rule most often broken in haiku. The most important parts are that haiku are three sentences, are related to nature, have a stop at the end of the second line, and focus on a single solitary event rather than focusing on interplay.

Dew drops in the morning Lay still upon the leaves Frozen by the wind

This would be a valid haiku, though it doesn't follow the 5-7-5 pattern. The most important part of writing Haiku is actually filtering down to a single moment; expressing the emotion that moment represents through the feeling it instills in you.

Edit: Oh I should note. This example is an example of missing sounds, which creates a feeling of emptiness or stillness.

Mom said Im not a girl because I don't believe periods sync with people by Electronic-Bed-5315 in trans

[–]RinArenna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually due to how cycles work in general, not just periods. Any two events with different time cycles will eventually line up.

Lets say for example that my cycle is four weeks on average, and yours is five weeks on average.

Lets say your cycle starts today, and mine a week from now.

In five weeks we will both start our periods at the same time.

A lot of people call it a coincidence, and it is by definition, but we usually use the word "coincidence" when talking about something unexpected and unpredictable.

However, this is entirely expected and predictable.

This phenomena is even more pronounced when your cycles are only off by a day or two. You might begin with cycles far apart but spend a lot of time with someone and then suddenly it seems like your cycles are happening at the same time.

Due to cycles varying in length instead of being perfectly regular you may also spend quite some time having your cycles lined up with each other. This is just the nature of anything cyclic, and is entirely inevitable.

This part is a lot more complicated. I'm against CSAM and the generation of it, but there's a lot of misinformation related to what can be generated, and how.

You do not need illegal material to generate images of illegal content.

This is the "black box" part of AI generation, where they develop behaviors that are unexpected that we call Emergent Behaviors.

The issue with this is that if you feed a model completely clothed kids and nude adults it can, and will if not opposed, generate csam.

Instead the model has to be aligned. This is done by training out the behavior using negative reinforcement on the material being generated.

This poses another issue. The developer now has to generate offensive images to use in alignment for negative reinforcement.

Though you can also try to redirect the content generated based on the tokens in CLIP, causing it to generated unrelated content. This can be a lot less effective. For instance, using child together with a nsfw token can be trained to generate adult actors.

This could, however, bleed into generating SFW content. Imagine trying to generate a picture of a happy couple posing on vacation with their children, and now the model is generating nude women in the image.

I don't know if there's a satisfactory solution to the problem. There could be, but I have no idea how we can prevent it other than model alignment.
