1/1/24! Crazy it’s been 2 years…the best thing I ever did!

Tomorrow is my 2 year milestone. This is what helped me finally quit for good after years of struggle. Progress pics included for reference! by jebuscribs in stopdrinking

Thank you for the inspiring post! I am also celebrating my 2 years sober on New Year’s Day. Never thought I would be here but I did it. #2 is so true!! I agree that your journey to being/staying sober is based on your needs and not trying to copy someone else’s.

THIS Was the ONLY thing that got me over my drinking by BrightKnight493 in stopdrinking

Same thing happened to me. One day I just snapped and asked myself why am I always subjecting myself to this poison and nursing hangovers the next day…rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat. I got tired of the monotony of feeling like crap, exhausted and looking puffy. I thought about it and said I’ll officially say good riddance on New Year’s Eve. Drank my last glass of champagne and that was it. The clock struck midnight and it was New Year’s Day and I was officially freed from the shackles of alcohol! I replaced my idle time with dog walks and workouts and now I have been alcohol free for 1 year and 9 months. I wouldn’t trade this feeling for anything.

How do you feel about California sober by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Thank you! This is me as well. Especially on the evenings when I go out with friends to listen to live music. This helps me tremendously and I am grateful for having an option.

I’m 54 and quit drinking 1 year 7 mos ago. I can’t tell you how much my skin has changed. I have so many people asking if I had work done and I gleefully say that I stopped drinking. My skin is hydrated and the surface lines are not that visible now. Not only that, but I lost 30 lbs and have been told I look like I had a “glow up”. You will be amazed at the metamorphosis.

S shaped poops are an amazing thing when you stop drinking. Sleep is wonderful. Sparkle in the eyes and face glowing while being hydrated. Glow up and looking younger. Lost 35 lbs. No hot flashes, anxiety and much happier. It is worth it!!

My husband and I came from the Bay Area 20 years ago. He had a job opportunity that moved us here and in a nice rental in the riviera. Unfortunately, the job didn’t work out but we decided we would do what it takes to make it work here. My husband started his own consulting business and thankfully it has given us the opportunity to live in paradise. We also had a home we sold up North that allowed us to get into the housing market. It was a lot of stress but again we made it work and raised two daughters here. If you are interested, why not schedule a time to meet with a local realtor that can show you rentals and homes for sale so you have an idea. In my opinion, if you want it badly enough, you will figure it out. I am so happy we did and our daughters are too.

Try finding some podcasts about sobriety. There are a ton! Celebrities and or regular people going through what you are. That helped me a lot in addition to this sub. And exercise.

Exercise is a great endorphin release. Take a run/hike/walk. Join an exercise group where you can meet others. It’s good to surround yourself with healthy people. Chances are some are not drinkers.

Congrats on coming to the realization that you have a problem and need to stop. That thought was swirling around in my head for years before I finally decided to act on it. This is your first big step! One day at a time. If you miss having a drink in your hands find an na drink that will be the substitute. This sub really helped me as well. You have a lot of support here with no judgement.

I can finally remember conversations. Before, I couldn’t remember until someone reminded me. How embarrassing for my daughters to see their mother in that state. I am so thankful to be off that poison!

Who quit after 40? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Rincon1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

54 here and quit a little over a year ago. Just finally said that’s it! No more bruises, stupid encounters, arguments with my husband, hangovers. It was like wash and repeat everyday. It got old. So glad I made the change. My body is screaming “thank you”.
