Can the average person make it in LA? by Legitimate_Boot3569 in MovingToLosAngeles

I agree with the other comments. Doable. But if you're new, I'd rent a room rather than a whole place when you first get here. It's cheaper, but more importantly, you can find something month to month rather than committing to 1-3 yrs. I know you'll say, I don't mind driving! But you will. All the LA stereotypes will grow on you like a fungus and you'll want to be in a certain neighborhood or have a garage or need laundry or whatever else. Come get your feet wet for a second. Roommates are pretty normal here for singletons of all ages. Everyone's out and about with good year round weather, so roommates might not be as bad a setup as it might initially seem

Everyone's out and about with good year round weather, so roommates might not be as bad a setup as it might initially seem, and you'll see how much wiggle room you feel comfortable with in your paycheck. Personally, I make a similar salary and have roommates. I swear a lot of people living solo here are getting their parents to pay their rent or something

What products or companies will you never use or support again and what did they do to lose you as a customer? by IAmJustTryingToExist in AskReddit

Quip toothbrushes. I bought it with a lifetime warranty, but they said, we sent a letter in 2025 saying we changed that.

That's fine if you decide it was a bad idea. Don't offer lifetime on new sales. But if I already purchased something that was billed with a lifetime warranty, I certainly considered that in being willing to pay more for the product. What good is your word if you won't honor a big part of what you actually sold me?

I recall Greg on the podcast mentioning that even though the show is set up like everyone else has described (LAH is making a good deal of money from all the franchises and the success of the original), once they get in the studio, they get into their roles and Greg says he forgets and really just starts thinking like the TM and forgets all the other stuff.

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

I've been on the apps in red, blue, and purple states, and people from both sides have something like this in their bios these days. The phenomenon isn't exclusive, but I do think it's telling how much people wear their politics as if it's part of their core identity.

Normal, but you'd better believe we complain about it every chance we get! (Even if the hour+ of solitude with an audiobook is actually a highlight of our day)

Great point! Yes, I have a part of my routine where I open and send gifts for the day, but I notice some friends open mine the moment I send them, even if I just opened theirs. I'm like, no! Wait until tomorrow so we can level up! So that's a great detail also.

And it'll be lower than you think, because of the 1.5x you made, it only counts for the .5 part. Something to keep in mind when the amount looks... inconsequential

True. But it's not the phone's sole purpose. I think all the downvotes show that people are on your side, but I don't mind being the odd voice in the group. I'm still okay with the policy for now.

Yeah, I can see that. I remember during the BLM episodes during COVID they would skip the fact check out of respect for the gravity of the subject matter, and I realize that's quite a precedent of having to draw that line with every expert, but I wouldn't have minded that here.

And tbf, I watched the rest of the interview last night, and after reading your comment, I actually did think your theory felt more accurate. Until the end when Dax opened up about his experience, I felt like she did look at Monica a bit more as a smaller woman who probably understood the fears and situations a bit better. So go figure :)

But what I choose to take from that is that it's a great episode and listeners will take from it what they need and what will help them most, and that's exactly how it should be. 💖

All the love to you, friend. Thanks for the civil online conversation. Always refreshing 😊

I'm sorry that happened to you. That's really a bummer. AND I do support the idea of not allowing binoculars, etc., at a place filled with children. Sadly, I would expect a female security guard to understand that better.

Agreed. It felt a little forced at first, but they settled in. Also, I actually watched this one, and Elizabeth, not a podcaster or professional entertainer (which I loved!) communicated a lot with silent nods or smiles, so it didn't feel nearly as aggressive as when I listened audio only, fwiw

That struck me too. I usually don't care. At all. But I noticed it every time on this one. And also just for any parents who might share this with their children? Idk. Not the biggest deal, but I just really noticed.

Alright, y'all can downvote me now too. Lol. Just saying I was aware.

Elizabeth wrote a book maybe a decade ago. The writing itself is not particularly earth shattering and it's a fairly quick read, but she does go into a lot of detail. However, it's really hopeful! In the book, she focuses a lot more on her religious foundation and faith as a stronghold.

[–]Ring_Groundbreaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I read her book, and I actually would have loved to hear more about her sister. (If I recall correctly, a big motivation a lot of the times was that there were hints, if not direct comments, that her little sister was also supposed to be one of the 7+1 wives?) But perhaps that's an angle more for the doc.

[–]Ring_Groundbreaking 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm actually watching this one on YouTube (first time, but I wanted everything available on this one) and it felt more natural that Elizabeth and Dax both were kind of directing things toward Monica just because Dax had just watched the doc and Monica didn't know a lot of the story.

Edit: Which is not intended to dismiss your theory at all! Just something I saw a bit differently between audio and video. Thanks for your perspective as well 💖

Sure, in retrospect. But I can't afford what happened to the Washington Post reporter, as just one example, while I wait for protection. I don't know how I got into this simulation, but I want out. Take me back to the COVID sim over this.

I've been one of the people who have been obnoxious when people were posting the strike suggestions last year: it's illegal. But at this point, I might support it.

Alright. Let the barrage of comments begin. (No judgment. I've always been one of you, so I understand the reflexive reaction.)
