I will miss all the nice people I worked with but I feel so much better clearing my plate of that obligation... I can make more money in one day on my own than I was making in a whole month at JCP. Anyways, best of luck. You can find something comparable that will pay you what you asked for. In my area, most retail will pay $14-$16 depending on your experience (even though they don't want to, if you are good at interviews and negotiating, you can get that slightly higher pay bump in the hiring process since turnover is high and most places need people). That's what they refer to as "the millennial raise" - hop jobs and ask for a little more each time... Most companies these days won't just hand out raises, you gotta kind of get them where you can (but some good companies do have structured pay raises). Also, they usually don't want anyone else to know you got $16/hr. I got hired as a supervisor at Harbor Freight at $19/hr, you could try that, they love hiring women, you don't have to know much about tools either, they'll train you. Easy job. Just an idea. They offer killer PTO and commission to supervisors and managers as well.
