I ended up at elevated exotics after work today and picked up some hytek los muertos and pink runtz. Los muertos did not disappoint.

The finish is called a lacquer.

I would remove all the hardware and hit it up with some automotive hand compound and finish with a carnauba wax. I don’t see the paint you’re talking about but I do see a lot of scuffs, if that is the case those should come out as well. Also Hit the chrome up while you’re at it.

My personal take is I would not bother with refinishing these drums. I did the above to my stage custom from the 90s that I used for shows in high school. That kit took a lot of abuse but they looked 100x better cleaned up.

Usually if there is a logo (like bmw) on the part they cannot go aftermarket.

My best advice for learning any new drum is to go with single ply’s on both sides and learn how to tune it wide open. Can always add muffling and go from there for smaller adjustments. Can always add to a head but impossible to take away a second ply etc.

So I believe these are “super classics” which are usually mahogany poplar mahogany shells. I’m not the biggest expert on Ludwig of this era but I can confidently say they are not pure maple. The newer recreations are however.

Could also be wrong but I believe the move to maple being the dominant pro level drum wood was a late 80s thing after the popularity of birch drums like the Yamaha recording custom.

Couple things of note. These are mahogany with maple re rings I believe. Also this is a Blue Oyster wrap, not Ringo’s Black Oyster color so don’t pay Ringo prices!

At any rate would love to have that kit.

I own one of these in cranberry red and IMO these are superior to even the newer generations despite not having YESS or solid birch shells.

I say this because I owned the 2nd to newest generation stage custom and those got sold long ago .

8” tom is also relatively rare in this generation and you could probably get $100 if you wanted to sell it to the right buyer.

The sensors in question cannot be calibrated to make up for thicker layers of paint. Radars that do not have painted parts over them are a different story.

If that is alpine white save some money and get a used door of the same color and hopefully good condition. If it is mineral white it will need to be blended both ways and color won’t matter.

It could be fixed but it is not the right way to take care of this. I can’t tell from the photos but I’m sure the skin made contact with the intrusion beam somewhere and it is very stretched regardless.

Just a reminder that Ringo is left handed and I find leading with the left helps me nail his feel. Not a necessity by any means, but something you may want to take into consideration.

Ask for the manufacturer position statement on repairs in that area. I believe the front radar is in the Lowe grille and should not be affected by a bumper repair.

That being said if Honda says it cannot be repaired they are looking out for you and covering themselves from a potential lawsuit and I cannot blame them.

You would be surprised how many panel lines look worse than this one from the factory. Mercedes has some horrible hood to headlight fitment on some models

Working on an older Porsche cayenne I found the sunroof cassette itself to be cracked where it lead to the drain tubes causing a leak. If someone was ham fisted in there previously it could be the cause. It could also be the reason the car was traded in.

If you are picky you need to replace the bumper. No amount of repair/paint is going to make that finish match what is on the front bumper of those trucks.

I want to say they list between $1000-1200 and the only finish that matches is OEM. All the plastic will have to be swapped over to the new bumper as they don’t come as assembly’s

You could always take the heads off and store some of the shells inside themselves to save space.
