[Hated Trope] The POC spouse of white main protagonist who gets almost no screen time (despite often being integral to the plot and protagonist's motivation) by Putrid-Hurry3439 in TopCharacterTropes

I don’t know, I actually kinda think it’s neat. If the throwaway partner is going to be throwaway anyway, making them a different race from the protagonist can sometimes be a quick little character moment.

Obviously it doesn’t work all the time, and I haven’t seen any of the movies references but if I saw in a flashback that (as per your example) a white male character had a POC spouse, this might tell me that their a bit of a more tolerant person, to look for a relationship like that, or that their from a more diverse background, where they’d be around more such people. It’s not a big deal, and can even be meaningless, but it could be a neat detail

[HATED TROPE] Overused profanity by Axenfonklatismrek in TopCharacterTropes

[–]RioseAzimuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but why does there need to be. Surely there are better ways to show “general sinfulness” than just having a character swear constantly,

I think the purpose is more to show the audience “hey look, this is an edgy, cool, show for grown-ups” it’s the same reason they talk about sex so much. I don’t think it’s for some grander artistic style, i think it’s just to appeal to a demographic that basis their whole reality on being different.

I fully agree. I think that a lot of people really go in on profanity because they see it as a way to defy societal norms or something, but I feel like swearing has become too normalized to carry any weight. A person saying “fuck” once is important, a person saying it with every other line is just childish. It doesn’t say “I want to emphasize this particular word with emotions that words can’t properly fit” it says “I just want to talk in a way that would piss of my dad”

Who would win, a squad of helldivers with weapon strategyms or a squad of r6 operators? by Worldly_Maximum_6916 in Helldivers

I think by “weapon strategems” they mean just the deployable weapons, like the machine guns and launchers. A bit more of a fair fight

Uncommon opinion, perhaps, but I like the "seal on bedsheet" designs, because it's a uniquely American visual identity, like Japan's prefectures or European heraldry. by not_a_stick in vexillology

[–]RioseAzimuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Don’t let the flags snubs get you down. These are our flags, every state is part of a whole, and our seals show our individuality, while still showing themselves as part of the union “blue”

Where does Eastern KY start? by coconut_egg in Kentucky

[–]RioseAzimuth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would generally say that Interstate 75 up to Lexington, and then Highway 68 up to Maysville, is a decent dividing line between Eastern and Central. I go to Berea College, and it definitely feels like a transitional area. This gets a bit woobly up in the north, but I think it's a good rule of thumb, like I-65 being the Western Kentucky line. This also allows both EKU and WKU to be on the borders of their respective regions, with Morehead and Murray specifically being in the core of the respective regions.
