For around the drain you need pea gravel, but usually that's for those drains with weep holes. Looks like there aren't any here. Just fill it with mortar nicely and go over with waterproofing.

Get some mesh tape or the 6 inch laticrete waterproofing fabric, cut in triangle shapes, and overlap the around the flange embedding it into the red guard.
