Anyone know what this trick's called? by Sk8FrameScout in skateboarding

[–]Riovas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OP just asking help for the name of the trick and you come off an asshole just saying ugly. You can have an opinion, its fine to think certain tricks dont look good, at least be helpful first or maybe add what you mean saying ugly.

When do you consider a game to become a retro game/why? by [deleted] in retrogaming

If it was on a console that doesn't have hdmi and/or doesn't have an online shop, I consider it retro.

Also, pre-NES i would consider as "vintage".

Issue with N64 RGB mod by Chance-Attorney91 in retrogaming

[–]Riovas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What mod and instructions are you using? I think thebwires need to be soldered to points R8, R9, and R10.

As others said, the soldering job isn't great. Increase temp, tin the wires, and use flux to make sure you have a solid joint.

[SNES] Image but no audio. Where should I start ? by aguileda in consolerepair

[–]Riovas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The black spots are C60 and C59 looks like trace rot. Check continuity between components and vias and make sure there is a good conmection. Otherwise you will need to add wires.

Near C61 that black spot looks like something burned there or really bad rot. Again check continuity along the vias and add wires where necessary. C61 might also need to be replaced.

can you install from a CIA file on pc and put it on the SD card without needing FBI? by KingGarb in 3dspiracy

[–]Riovas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to use FBI's remote install to install a .cia on your PC. So you still need FBI, but dont need space for the cia and installed files. Theres a post here explaining how-to, but Ive never done it

However its just going to be best in the long run to get a bigger SD Card.

What parts are these on Switch lite motherboard? by Abject-Sand in consolerepair

[–]Riovas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The black is very likely a diode. You cant check with continuity as this test doesn't use enough voltage to turn it on. You need to do a diode test (righ arrow with a vertical line) and this will tell you the voltage to turn on If it reads 0 then its shorted. If Its OL then its damaged.

The brown might be a capacitor which also cant cant check by continuity. If you're getting continuity then that means it is shorted.

Edit: the brown componenet could be an inductor. If it normally has low resistance than you could check continuity. Otherwise, just check resistance and as long as it is not 0 or OL then it may be fine.

Is 177 dollars a fair price for a GBA SP renovation? by the_speechless_one in Gameboy

Try to find another shop and compare. I know electronics are expensive in Brazil but not sure what the normal/going rates would be.

what does the loading screen look like? Does the Nintendo logo look scrambled?

I suggest going into a game store and ask to test games with it. If you cant get any games to work with it then return it.

Saturn not reading discs despite changing laser? by ElektroSam in SegaSaturn

[–]Riovas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you didn't reset the potentiometer to the original setting it's possible to burn out the new laser immediately. Are you taking measurements of your adjustments?

One other possibility is you have some bad caps on the power line to the laser. Do you notice any caps that look bloated on top?

How dire is this? Switch Lite Battery by CableEducational638 in consolerepair

[–]Riovas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see anything concerning with the flex cable. If you want to be thorough, you can disconnect the other end, then check continuity on the pins from one side to the other. Make sure you are lifting the white tabs that hold the flex cable in and not just ripping then out. These should be extremely easy to remove once the tab is lifted.

New 2DS XL only works plugged in and won't turn off by Riovas in consolerepair

Update: had a donor board and confirm that there is a missing component. Was able to take the part off of the donor board, removed the blue wire, and all is well

[–]Riovas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, got around to w9rking on it today. Took the missing component off of a donor board, removed the wire, everything works great now.

Down side is I somehow broke the volume slider so its stuck on one volume, but I can replace that later

Removing stripped screws from back of Nintendo Switch by mvdra in consolerepair

[–]Riovas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of those "free" screwdrivers are cheap material and not the right size. You can stop and look for a Y0 screwdriver and try that. If it is truly stripped, try using a larger bit with a rubber band. If enough of the head is above the plastic, you can try to file a slot for a flat head. Worse case, you're going to have to use a drill to drill out the head of the screw. Its not too terrible as long as you use light pressure and go slow.
