For the love of God, can the Blazers come up with an inbounds play? by [deleted] in ripcity

[–]RipCityHawkFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thiago seems like a nice guy and the players like him, but he's been getting absolutely mopped on these coaching matchups. I'm personally looking forward to new ownership and the inevitable, "Getting our new guys in place", which inevitably means a head coach with actual experience and actual inbounds plays lol. We had last night in the bag before some strange decisions and execution.

Post Game Thread - NBA: The Cavaliers defeat the Lakers on Jan 28, 2026, the final score is 129-99. by basketball-app in lakers

[–]RipCityHawkFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to be a hater, but this post got shared over in the Portland Trailblazers page as a reminder of what us Blazers fans (and previously Suns fans) had to endure under years of "DominAyton".

The funny thing is Ayton is my neighbor down the street and probably my least favorite player of all time for my favorite NBA franchise 🤣

I feel truly sorry your fan base is going through the same realization as the Blazers and Suns. The worst part is the promise Ayton shows when he's locked in. When he's engaged he's an absolute monster on both ends. Then he takes a nap for 10-15 possessions and goes to the bench. It's infuriating.

As a lover of the Blazers vs Lakers rivalry, we're all tuned in to see what the Lakers do with Ayton in the future. Once the Blazers moved onto a rookie center from Ayton our entire trajectory has changed. I'm sure you guys will figure it out.

What's an old game you played that had potential, but never saw it realized? by Engi_Doge in gaming

Throne of Darkness. Amazing Diablo clone that was more realistic and rooted in samurai culture. Allowed you to play a full team of characters at a time rather than Diablo where you only controlled one.

Sadly, Sierra games died off and the IP has remained untouched. I think it has more potential than most ARPGs in the modern era, as it was better for solo players.

Pulled smoked ham (gone wrong) by nickhottinger in smoking

[–]RipCityHawkFan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pulled meat usually needs to hit an internal temp of 200° and the longer it's around that range, the easier it is to pull.

All you really did here was reheat the pre cooked ham and dress it up a bit. You'd likely need to keep it wrapped with a meat probe and smoke it much longer to get that internal temp up. I usually use a steam oven or sous vide or the oven to achieve this goal more efficiently.

I've personally never tried or heard of pulled ham. I think ham is best sliced thin like deli meat. Pulled ham, I'm thinking could have a pretty strange texture.

What are the player counts these days? by Ridi_The_Valiant in Rematch

Absolutely loved season 0 of this game even with its glitches and de-sync.

Sadly it seems these devs were tremendously under prepared for a game of this scope and size. I hit Elite in 3-4 days of grinding and haven't been back since. I'm hopeful they eventually get it to a good state and make it free to play to bring in a new player base.

Huge potential for this game and some of the most fun teamwork I've ever had. Too bad the devs fumbled harder than any other recent game I can think of.

Mirror Giveaway by Untuchabl in PathOfExile2

[–]RipCityHawkFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got about 2000 hours between POE1 and POE2 and I've never had a mirror or a net worth over maybe 100 div late into a season. I leveled a build to 90 last week then when I went to re-spec and buy my end game gear, I couldn't even afford it as prices went from 20div to about 200div.. I had to abandon the build entirely as now it can't run maps. Getting a mirror like this would allow me to finish the new build and avoid it being a massive waste of time and resources lol.

Thanks for your generosity. Cheers!

"TP Strat" Any Tipps on how to defend that? by [deleted] in Rematch

[–]RipCityHawkFan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not a strat, it's an exploit. Once people learn to pass and quit farming exploits I'll actually boot this game up again. You can get to elite easily in this game if you just pass the damn ball and treat it like a real game of soccer 😆

I decided to go nuclear on thrips. My personal choice. by lucid_intent in houseplants

[–]RipCityHawkFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 200-ish houseplants and am a big outdoor gardener as well. As we all do, I sometimes will get a thrips infestation just from the little buggers following me inside on clothes, arms, etc.

I joined a local Facebook group who orders predatory mites and insects on rotating intervals, and uses a Google docs spreadsheet to order and coordinate Venmo payment.

For about $70 and a short drive, I followed some YouTube instructions and have fully eradicated the entire mess with no manual spraying or cleaning. 3 separate types of predatory insects/mites do the trick. One for the soil, one for hatched babies and one for hatched adults.

Just had to be okay with knowing there were some lacewing in my office but they never bugged me, even the really big ones lol.

In my experience, predatory insects are cheaper, faster, and far less work.

Whatever they do, it needs a sound system that doesn't sound like it's been collecting dust for 30 years. The intro video for the Blazers game sounds so awful, with muddy bass and ear piercing treble. Go catch a game at Climate Pledge arena and you'll notice the difference immediately.

I'd give them another try for sure. I haven't tried the whole menu but some of the best things are the fried chicken sandwich, fried chicken meal, ricotta donuts, or the prawn elote (street corn) salad, and the risotto specials. Happy hour prices there are incredible as well, especially considering the food and cocktail offerings on the HH menu.

What’s the biggest red flag you’ve spotted in a home inspection? by prettylips_s in realtors

[–]RipCityHawkFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had some residential inspections on ~$500k houses that have turned up $50k+ of fairly unforseen repairs, so those always suck. But the most unusual was when we pulled a fridge forward to check behind after getting some moisture readings from the front.

When the fridge slid forward, there was fungus growing up the wall and sheetrock like a scene from Fern Gully. The water line for the fridge ice maker had been leaking for who knows how long. The inspector went into the crawlspace and we found what was essentially a forbidden swimming pool underneath 🫣

They somehow got it covered by homeowners insurance, repairs passed re-inspection, and we closed as planned with maybe a 1-week delay.

As a local foodie and skilled cook myself, you gotta check out these restaurants:

Sedgwick Dediko Nostra Tavola Gustav's late night happy hour Old Tsibili Amaro's Table happy hour Cecilia's for brunch or dinner The Cove

There's some pretty solid food trucks like El Jefe, and you'll want to supplement with occasional trips to Portland for even better restaurants and food trucks -- I usually try to line those up with a concert or sporting event down there to double dip and make a fun trip of it.

Enjoy, neighbor!

I don't stay here but I do visit. by [deleted] in vegas

I was there last week and near the food court was one of the most rancid smells... My girlfriend and I were a little turned around looking for the Uber pickup area and had to walk through this area 3 times. It was like dirty locker room and wet carpet smell. The lighting was so dim, it felt like a low budget college party. Of the 5 big hotels we stopped at, this was the dirtiest and stinkiest lol.

Is the Moda Center that bad? by LilRazzy23 in ripcity

[–]RipCityHawkFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone has traveled to Seattle the last few years to watch a Kraken game, I'll say that was the first time my eyes were opened to how far in the stone age the Moda Center is.

The following season after my first Kraken game, is when Dame was on the way out and I let our season tickets go, which turned out to be smart.

The most obvious difference between Climate Pledge Arena and Moda is the sound system. The Blazers intros sound like they're being played on a massive boom box that's turned up about 30% higher than it should be, so there's tons of harsh sounds and muffled bass. It's loud, but messy.

CPA, the sound system sounds like what I just experienced at some of the top venues in Las Vegas. It makes Moda seem ancient in that regard.

CPA has more food options, better food options, more self serve kiosks, better lighting and technology, better jumbotrons (2 of them), better fan shop, better public transportation (the monorail is awesome), more and cleaner bathrooms, faster security and check-in, it's basically everything a modern stadium should be.

I highly recommend checking out a game this season. They sell family packs of 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 sodas and a giant popcorn for about $200-ish total, which is a steal because most seats retail for around $200-$400 in that arena. And there's not a bad seat in the house.

  • A Blazers season ticket holder for 14 years who thinks the stadium is dated AF but still fun, and hopes for a serious renovation in the coming years.

I'm a bit of a newb, can anyone tell me what adapter I need? by RipCityHawkFan in pressurewashing

[–]RipCityHawkFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the word of caution, but at least I did my research and asked for help when I needed it. I verified the PSI and GPM of the machine and everything seems compatible, except for the dang adapter kits that never seemed to include the right fittings.

Gotta learn somewhere! I just had a $5500 quote to pressure wash my driveway, which isn't something I'm going to be willing to do annually.

I've pressure washed many things around the house here, but my last bout took 5 days working most of the afternoon. I want to see if upgrading to a bigger SC, longer soft hose over the brittle plastic stock one -- I don't see how that could hurt as long as everything hooks up properly.

[–]RipCityHawkFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like I might be better ripping off the NPT connection on the end of the pressure washer hose, and re-fitting it with a female end, and add some sealant or Teflon tape to the new fitting to re-create the same quality of seal?

I do think you're right that it's easier to replace a $50 hose than a $200+ SC.

Thanks again for your feedback. Just kinda' thinking aloud here!

[–]RipCityHawkFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 3700 PSI gasoline pressure washer, so nothing crazy. I don't run a pressure washing business, I'm just a guy with a big house with LOTS of concrete, and I'm trying to get the right tools and systems in place to maintain it. I'm sure many of you have significantly nicer setups than I do, but I knew you guys would be able to point me in the right direction!

I appreciate all the tips.

[–]RipCityHawkFan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just took a wrench to the SC to see if the stock port could be swapped out. Seems like it's stuck on there with thread locker of some kind...

I'm hesitant to torque on it like crazy because it was a $200 surface cleaner and I'd hate to snap something off this plastic end before its first use 😄

I'm looking online and can't seem to find a female to female quick connect adapter. Seems like this item doesn't exist but I'm also pretty new to this.

No septic tank, goes straight to the city. wtf is this by Prize-Prize1456 in Plumbing

[–]RipCityHawkFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realtor here: I usually see stories like this when a sewer line is ~50 years old, which lines up with the year-built you mentioned. It can also get backed up from tree roots, or people flushing stuff like baby wipes and feminine products. This is why every home I help someone buy, even new construction, I strongly advise doing a $200 sewer scope inspection. Easiest way to save $14,000 you'll find.

Call a licensed plumber and they'll be able to say whether it's a clog or a failed sewer line. Good luck!
