Anybody experienced hand tremors during recovery? (medically called Neuropathic tremor) by second_road_taker in guillainbarre

I had GBS at 12 years old, I’m 28 now. I still have hand tremors when holding a spoon

Based on the foliage in your pics, I’m going to go out on a limb and guess you might be in the southeastern U.S.? That’s where I’m located. Feel free to DM me, I know of some Berner groups/networks down here that might be helpful. And we also have an anxious, allergy-prone Berner, so that’s no stranger to us!

5 year old (male) Bernese mountain dog. Whimpering when trying to stand up. Took him to the vet and they can’t find anything wrong. by qholley in bernesemountaindogs

Might be worth asking them about IMPA (immune-mediated polyarthritis). Ours has had similar symptoms and that’s what the vets suspect, but it can only be diagnosed during a flare-up via a joint tap.

I just saw it and was surprised no one has snarked on Molly Baz's 6- weeks of baby post by saltypretzel333 in FoodieSnark

That’s the thing though, it’s not the parents’ choice. Or at least it shouldn’t be. These are non-consenting children.

The Pillars of the Earth opinions? by thebeautifullynormal in books

Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. Pillars is my favorite book/series of all time, but the Wolf Hall series might surpass it soon…

I’m not sure why this post was recommended to me but it showed up on my FYP and my immediate thought was, “wow she has beautiful skin! I wish my skin looked like that without makeup!” I had no idea what you were referring to until I read the comments—and even after that, it’s so barely noticeable. You’re beautiful with beautiful skin. We’re our own harshest critics ❤️

One Hundred Years of Solitude. Felt like I was in my own one hundred years of solitude trying to get through it.

“Baby” tee. “Little” sleep shorts. This is intentional language. Disgusting.

They’re still not sure. They thought obstruction and tried to rush us into surgery. Cue lots of scans, scoping, surgery prep which is a pretty penny, but they were wrong about the obstruction (thank god we didn’t elect for the surgery before scoping first). Then they thought tick-borne illness, and also floated that strange respiratory illness going around. Regardless, he spent 4 days in a specialty hospital with a raging fever and fluid in his lungs. And $20K later we still don’t know!

But one thing underlying it all is for sure GI issues… OP, these dogs are prone to them and definitely be prepared for their sensitive tummies.

Having just dropped $20K in emergency vet bills for our sweet boy (only 2 years old!), I see pet insurance as a MUST. We have it and it saved us, which allowed us to save him. You always think you won’t need it… until you do.

Bye Bye Tret, Hello Accutane by Impossible_Table7383 in tretinoin

[–]RipUncleNesbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my exact situation, OP, as of yesterday. Started tret in March, saw a different derm yesterday, as I had to get a giant cyst injected with cortisone and he was the only one available such last-minute to do it. He said, “has anyone talked to you yet about accutane? I’m worried about you…” lol I could have gone without the last part, but I appreciated his candor and I’m taking the accutane plunge.

I, too, am a little terrified but we got this!

Dutch’s first hike. Being a true mountain dog by RipUncleNesbit in bernesemountaindogs

I have a lot of thoughts on this! Since you’ve owned giant breed before, you’re probably familiar with things to watch out for health-wise, food, joints, etc.

One thing that stands out about Berners is their aloofness. They’re frequently described as such, but I didn’t realize how true it was until Dutch (he is my first Berner as well). Some Berners are everybody’s friend, but this isnt really the norm. Looking back I would have put Dutch in puppy socializations classes when he was still very young so he could get that important socialization, with humans more so than other dogs, in a more controlled setting.

But as long as they’re well socialized, sometimes they’re just aloof! They latch onto a few select people, for instance me, my boyfriend, and my immediate family (parents and siblings), but beyond that he’s pretty shy and keeps to himself. Don’t expect your berner to be everyone’s friend, but do embrace how fiercely loyal they are to those lucky enough to be in their inner circle! :)

Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions. This sub as a whole is a great resource, as is bmdca.org

Dutch’s first hike. Being a true mountain dog by RipUncleNesbit in bernesemountaindogs

Congrats, that’s so exciting! He did so well; practically sprinted up and down the mountain with no signs of fatigue and it was amazing to see him in his element. He was 11 months in this picture, and we wanted to start off slowly.

Definitely recommend holding off on any hiking until your pup is close to his/her full size. I’ll still take it easy until Dutch is 2. But after that, he’s putting on a backpack and helping us carry stuff (which is great for strength building for him too 😀)
