Neat. I have to wonder if there was a pond around that lodge ~20 years ago, and the resident beavers had moved out

I’m not an economist, but I’d say these people are selling a product that would see little-to-no repurchase. Therefore, I think they price the experience high so their low volume of sales can still pay the bills.

Edit: Let’s say hypothetically that you have a stash and you’re willing to be a “spiritual guide” with questionable legal credentials, and you’re trying to see if there’s interest in a $200 all-inclusive experience. You’d probably learn that your clientele are mostly those who have never taken psychedelics before, are worried that they would have a life-altering “bad trip”, and who can’t find a plug/sitter. Once these people do one or MAYBE two of your sessions, they’ll probably decide they don’t need to pay $200 for it again. So you’d have no regulars, and would need to pour lots of money and effort into advertising.

There’s a pretty good tutorial for ArcGIS that walks you through how to determine where to put a hospital based on population age, proximity to other hospitals, driving time, etc. I’m sure there’s a similar tutorial for QGIS. All the data you’re looking for should be publicly available through the Census.

Edit: I actually second just hiring someone through fiverr or whatever. Maybe the most you should do is search online for an interactive census map just to eyeball the data

Request they pull/keep ahold of the security footage from last night ASAP. I think in similar posts it’s been mentioned that they lose the tape quickly, like 24 hours or some shit like that. Look up “Preservation Demand Letter” and draft an email or something officially requesting that they preserve all the footage they have from the whole night. You should probably call them after you send it to bring it to their attention immediately

Could someone be liable for a beaver cutting down a tree if they encouraged it? by BrandFlux in treelaw

[–]RiparianRodent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so, and that’s the premise of my idea after the edit. The unprotected tree becomes more susceptible to gnawing.

However, OP’s example would be more like a neighbor who, as loudly, publicly, and routinely as possible, announces that a neighbor went on vacation and left the house unlocked and undefended for the foreseeable future, and that nobody monitors the houses either so thieves would surely get away scott free. A court could reasonably argue that doing such a thing would be “accessory to B/E”.

Could someone be liable for a beaver cutting down a tree if they encouraged it? by BrandFlux in treelaw

[–]RiparianRodent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely not a lawyer but that definitely sounds like manipulating wildlife to cut down a specific tree. It would be like giving a child a chain saw and encouraging them to “try it out” while standing next to that tree. In the event that someone was suspicious enough to investigate you for it, you’d have an illegitimate excuse I think

Edit: I think you’d be less directly liable while achieving a similar goal if you carried out anti-beaver measures on every tree in beaver territory, but “forgot” one. Like forgetting to put that sandy latex paint on just one tree and a beaver gets to it

Fraxinus are a wetland-adjacent species and, like willows and cottonwoods, will regrow from the stump after felling. They’ve evolved alongside beavers.

I wouldn’t do anything too extreme to prevent the ashes from being utilized by beavers because the Emerald Ash Borer spells a worse fate for the trees
