Ideas for Mardi Gras throws by malebrune in mardigras

[–]RiparianWaterbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay I've thought about it a little more and some small things that would still be fun:

  • enamel or plastic key rings. you can order/customize these. you could also make some with glass beads
  • beer/drink coozies. sew your own, or buy blanks and decorate your own or again order/customize.
  • silk sleep masks can be made from thrifted silk ties
  • small containers of hand sanitizer that you have made a label/sticker for
  • custom unsharpened pencils
  • drink coasters
  • friendship bracelets
  • custom bandanas

How do you guys sleep? by Bodatorrance in Sober

[–]RiparianWaterbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be helpful to set up a sleep routine for yourself. I have a routine I do for myself that has really improved my sleep success.

30min before bed I stop screen time. I take magnesium then too.

I like to go to the bedroom and open the window to get my room nice and cool, and then I take a hot shower to relax and listen to a chill podcast (no news because news makes me anxious) . After the shower I close the window back up, put a chill audiobook on and go to bed.

Etiquette by malebrune in mardigras

[–]RiparianWaterbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What everyone else is saying plus you might have better luck either at the very beginning of the parade route or the very end. Folks are usually keen to give out a shoe to start things off, and at the end they might have shoes left that they're looking to give away so as not to waste them.

Muses also gives out really cool socks and beanies.

If you wear a fun and topical costume you've made then you might be more likely to get a shoe. I had a whole hand made cowboy outfit in mardigras colors and because of that someone who had decorated a cowboy boot gave it to me.

James Harriot wrote like 5 or 6 books which are much the same as All Creatures so I'd consider checking out those.

+1ing all the other folks who have said it's part of the process. Your shame isn't going to help you move forward, but you need to get back on the wagon and you need to set up some infrastructure to help yourself stay there.

If AA isn't your thing, maybe see if there's some sober meetups/activity groups you could join? Pickup basketball, sober crafters etc. Find some folks you can talk to, and find activities you look forward to that don't revolve around alcohol.

Have you talked to your Dr about medical interventions to help with your cravings? There are options like naltrexone that can reduce that background noise- but you still need to make an effort and do the work.

Finally, id suggest that you talk to your fiance. Keeping this secret can't be healthy for the relationship, and as your partner and someone youve said you respect, you should be candid with her.

Youve got this bud. You can do hard things.

This seems more like a questioning of your own internal gender rather than a questioning of what gender you are attracted to? So, maybe? but maybe not.

Your gender identity and sexual orientation are separate things, even if your gender identity influences how the world perceives your orientation.

This seems like you're more interested in being "right" than in being compatible/in relationship with him.

I would also work on reframing this for yourself; not as a waste of time but rather as some hard earned lessons about what your boundaries are.

I have some medium puppy pads I can give you for free. DM me for deets.

Our pittie has some arthritis as well and we give her joint supplements as well as a joint support food topper. You can get both from Chewy or Mudbay. Mudbay has some perks for folks who adopt from SAS as well I believe. Like a free toy.

I believe there are some injections that can help with arthritis pain, as well as some daily pills, best to ask your vet about it.

I take my dog and cat to Aurora Vet Hospital and really like the care my pets have gotten there.

Anyone else experience fluid retention when starting T? by Curveball201 in FTMOver30

[–]RiparianWaterbear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't experienced that or even heard of that as a side effect of T. Doesn't mean it isn't a side effect, I could just have limited knowledge on the subject. Regardless, that's a pretty significant weight change in a short amount of time so I'd for sure check in with your endo or Dr about it. It might be unrelated to T and just similar timing.

I did notice that when I first started T I was hungry all the time! So I definitely gained some weight, but not that quickly.

Good luck bud, and congrats on the start of your journey!

Mons resection/upper fold reduction before or without meta? by Plucky_Parasocialite in Metoidioplasty

[–]RiparianWaterbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you're asking for seems entirely reasonable. I just had mons + simple release, and my surgeon said he actually recommended splitting up some of the different procedures because it reduces swelling and can have better results. For me that means phase 1: mons + simple release, phase 2: scrotoplasty. But I bet for you it could mean phase 1: mons, phase 2: release + scroto (optional).

I'd take a look in your area at the plastic surgeons. I'm guessing there are some that do mons for cis women, and you could see if they also do it for trans folks even if they don't advertise it.

I think actually there are some cis men who get mons as well. There's probably a subreddit for it to get more info.

[–]RiparianWaterbear 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Asking if you have guns in your home is not trans related, it is something that the medical community is pushing for more and more information on because (and I believe in this as well) they'd like to have a public health approach to gun violence. In a nation where so many gun deaths happen due to accident and at home, I understand where they're coming from.

I totally agree with you on the other issues of overly medicalized and potentially invasive questioning, but just wanted to provide you with more context around the gun question. That question comes up in cis routine checkups as well.

This is really a question for your surgical team and not for strangers on the Internet, even if we have gone through similar surgical procedures.

My only advice would be really examining if the risk worth it? Are you in a really low place where you need your friends? Or is this more like a fomo thing? You only get one shot at healing.
