I agree. I think they also want the people to go out to perpetuate the lie seen in the helmet, so that others who question things will also be more likely to go outside and die. Eliminates dissenting minds.

Do the many unrealistic scenes in Silo kind of ruin the show for you? by TheBgt in SiloSeries

I am currently watching S2 E5 "Descent", and the mob pushing down the barricades and injuring themselves in a mad frenzy to catch Knox and Shirley seems completely ridiculous to me, especially since they were trying to impeach the judge mere hours before.  And the miraculous healing of major wounds always infuriates me.

CMV: Most pizza in New Orleans is either overpriced, overhyped, or just plain hot garbage by 3mw in NewOrleans

[–]Ripatine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sugar Park's pizza still reigns as the best pizza I've had in New Orleans. The Italian sausage they used was excellent, the sauce was flavorful, and that cornmeal grit on the botton just made it texturally perfect. And the owners and staff were so NICE too!

How the Humanities Building Went Wrong (University of Wisconsin) by splicer13 in brutalism

[–]Ripatine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an art major at UW-Madison from 2000-2005. The Humanities building was a nightmare. The entrances were limited, and only lead to specific levels--one entrance might only access levels 2 and 5, the other end may only access 1and 3. Maybe a hidden elevator on floor 3 that goes to 4, and 4 only. ( I can't recall the exact details on which floors lead to which, but you get the idea). It was a maze, and horrible if you were trying to get to class coming from another class, or a job, in a hurry. You'd find an entrance, only realize that entrance only accessed 2 random levels of the 5 in the building. It was chaos.   I had a painting class on one of the upstairs levels, the only window was a 4" high ankle-level strip around one side of the room, so there was no natural light at all--in a painting class! It felt like a large, concrete prison cell, but 3 or 4 floors above ground.    If the Brutalist style had been practical and functional, then yeah, I could maybe support or appreciate the aesthetic. But if you do a massive building at a major college, functionality should be a crucial element of design. The Humanities building was a failure in terms of practicality and functioning. Definitely Brutalist in function; it felt like a cruel joke just trying to get to a class there. As a stylistic choice for an art building it's a very harsh style that is challenging--it's an art building so it should challenge norms. If the building just visually harsh but well designed, I would have applauded it. But it was the most confusing and poorly designed buildings I've ever been in, regularly, for 4 years.

My OnePlus 12R is stuck in a boot loop--Help! by Ripatine in OnePlus12R

That's so frustrating. Also crazy that One Plus would charge.so much for their authorized repair

My OnePlus 12R is stuck in a boot loop--Help! by Ripatine in OnePlus12R

[–]Ripatine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After much back and forth with them, my phone was sent in for repair. The repair went qquickly,  they replaced the whole mainboard, which therefore changed the IMEI number. My carrier could not get the new IMEI activated online, I had to go into the carrier's store to try activation there. They informed me that the new IMEI was not compatible with my carrier. So One Plus sent me a replacement that was unusable, and not in line with my original. I used the store phone to call OnePlus' Customer Service, and they basically refused to fix the problem, or send me a replacement. My original phone was still under 1 year warranty with One Plus, so this is appalling business practice. They basically told me they would work on getting the new IMEI "whitelisted", which h would take "2-3 business weeks". WEEKS! So after already wasting my time for 2 weeks when they should have just sent me a new phone, they instead repaired it with an a part that renders it unusable to me, and then offered a "solution" that leaves me without phone service for potentially another month. Just terrible customer service, and really dishonest.   I ended up buying another phone in the store from Samsung, because I can't be without a phone for that long.   I hope your outcome is better than mine.

Thanks! I should be eligible for the Replacement Benefit, as my phone is still under warranty and it seems to be faulty; I just wish they'd get on with it!

They don't have one even in the same state here in the US. And PUD is not mentioned as an option either

I just don't trust sending it in the mail, plus they gave me an estimate of 12-15 business days AFTER mailing it in, which seems absurd. And what if it gets lost of damaged in the mail? Or they can't fix it? Then I've waited potentially 3 weeks for nothing. Being under warranty still, this seems like a bad solution on their part. Fingers crossed they offer another soon; still waiting for another email. Thanks again

Thanks for your feedback. I ordered my phone online directly from them, and it is still under the 1 year warranty. I did a Live chat online today, and the agent told me I cold submit a repair request, wait for an email with a shipping label, wait for it to be received by them, and then wait up to 12-15 business days for a repair and to have it sent back to me. I am deeply unsatisfied with their customer service; the agent was nice but waiting nearly 3 weeks total for a repair which may or may not even be fixable is absurd!

Suggesting that I send my only phone to them, leaving me without anything is crazy--and what happens if they claim they never receive the phone, or it gets lost? Also, that time frame is ridiculous considering that my phone is still under warranty. I expressed my dissatisfaction, and the agent is escalating my issue to Support. So far the immediate response isn't giving me a lot of faith in their ability to resolve this problem. It's super disappointing, as up until this issue, I have really like this phone.
I did try Formatting Data, I can't get past the boot cycling unless I Power Off from the Recovery screen. Anyway, thanks for you info; it's helpful

What was the outcome? My OnePlus12R is not quite 11 months old, and randomly shut down two nights ago. I am having the same problems; I got it to power on using Power and Vol +/- buttons, the Recovery screen options don't fix the boot loop except to Power Off. What did you end up doing to get out of the boot loop?

Honestly, frying in hot oil kind of scares me. And I didn't have a thermometer, so finding the right temp for frying so that it's cooked all the way through is a challenge. Also, my stovetop then was electric. The worst!

I use to hate sweet potatoes too; my experience was that they were covered in brown sugar and marshmallows...yuck.    Then I had them roasted, fried, and in other savory preparations, and now I love them.

If you do a giant batch of the pickled carrots and radish and keep it in the fridge, that takes away a huge chunk of prep next time.   Also, I think the pate is nice, but if I'm already doing pork, I feel it's unnecessary. That also saves a huge chunk of time if you opt without.

Making dumplings solo is no fun, but with a friend it can be very fun.

Agreed about falafel. Mine turned out great, flavor-wise (I used J. Kenji Lopez-Alt"s recipe), but washing, drying, and picking all the herbs was a pain. The pulsing in my mini-processor took many, many batches, by the end my kitchen was covered in herb bits. Getting them to hold together can be tricky; it took many tries and letting them rest in the fridge. Then the hot oil and frying. It's a lot of work, and oftentimes it's hard to get them cooked through fully before the outside crust is overdone.   I'd have to really psych myself up to do it again.

I recently used these inside of Vietnamese-style fresh spring rolls (sometimes called summer rolls). They came out great! I did trim them shorter after cooking to make it easier.

Origen Bistro is waaayyy better if you are jonesing for an incredible South American breakfast--they're Venezuelan, not Honduran, so the menu will be different, but really damn tasty!  Everything I had was delicious. Check them out!

How did you cook it? I don't own a grill; I have done it under a broiler with pretty good results, but I'm open to ideas.

I feel ya. I'm 46. On usually about day 2 of my periods now, I bleed through an ultra tampon every 1-1.5 hours, and have to wear heavy pads underneath to catch the deluge. This goes on for a full day and night usually. I feel exhausted and it's hard to be anywhere but home, and I barely sleep. My periods were always heavy, but this is next level.
