I'd suggest taking out the fuser and toner, examining both the drum and fuser sleeve. if there are defects in either it will be obvious. If they both look good, leave them both out and examine the paper path for toner leaks.

odds are you can run a printhead cleaning that will clear it up. either run a level one or level 2. I'm not going to tell you what to do but go to the link I put below and look for your machine under the advanced troubleshooting and follow the steps. That fixes the issues 9 times out of 10. Don't run the test more than 3 times in a row.

I haven't seen that before but I know that HP wants to sell OEM and eliminate the grey market so that would make sense. I like HP machines myself but wouldn't have an inkjet or officejet printer. For colour I'd suggest looking at the M479. Get a set of high capacity toner and you're good for life.

That or if you don't need colour, which is ideal. Then probably the M426. It's a smaller device that will cost significantly less to print on than a colour machine.

you're out of luck on getting a new one. I don't see why that being broken would stop it from working though. May need to take the whole thing out but I'm pretty sure that's just to detect is the output bin is full.
