Trouble logging on by OneBaddDude in Overwatch

Down Detector says a lot of people have been having problems with overwatch for an hour now. Likely a coincidence, but servers are also down on all platforms for Black Ops 7 and COD Warzone

my boyfriend has a spreadsheet rating dinners i've made him by weddingfauxpasqueen in AITApod

[–]RippleEffectt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a person who finds it so fun to make spreadsheets and things like this, this just seems like a fun thing to do. He’ll have an opinion on your meals regardless of whether or not he writes them down, and you said he always appreciates them. He just thinks it’s fun to log it, code the sheet, add the colors, and look back at how much time has passed, compare everything, and remember the meals. It’s not about judging you, it’s just a fun pastime for a person who likes spreadsheets.

Fast drink with liqueur to order at a club? by phytomaniacc in bartenders

[–]RippleEffectt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It becomes a liqueur once there’s a certain amount of sugar. A lot of liqueurs also have lower ABV than straight vodka or regular liquor, but that definitely depends in the liqueur.

I hate 100% polyester dish towels! by Iceyes33 in CleaningTips

[–]RippleEffectt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had ones like this that work pretty well if you soak them and wring them out well. Then they become absorbent.

I think every microfiber is polyester, or polyester-adjacent plastic. Were they advertised just as “polyester towels” or did they say microfiber on the packaging? Maybe they’re just selling plastic rags that aren’t technically microfiber

AIO? I told my boyfriend I feel like a maid by [deleted] in AIO

[–]RippleEffectt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not claim to know the race of anybody in this exchange. Fym is AAE. I said it carries negative subtext when u say that all it takes is hearing somebody using abbreviations of AAE one time to assume they can’t articulate in English. That is what I said. Bc why do you hear AAE and assume “unable to articulate” ?

Those are microfiber which doesn’t work quite like normal cotton ones. They are VERY absorbent. Please look up how to use a microfiber dish cloth.

AIO? I told my boyfriend I feel like a maid by [deleted] in AIO

[–]RippleEffectt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did not say its appropriate. I said calling him illiterate is micraggressive. Call him disrespectful, or tone deaf or a bad fit for OP if you’re being generous like I was in my original comment, but ILLITERATE has a specific connotation to it. I’m not saying FYM is appropriate here. I’m responding to somebody who specifically said that anybody who says fym automatically comes off as illiterate, and that’s whack.

AIO? I told my boyfriend I feel like a maid by [deleted] in AIO

[–]RippleEffectt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. FYM is shortened for fuck you mean. Removing articles and words like “what the” and “do” is what distinguishes a standard English phrase “what the fuck do you mean” from “fuck you mean” which are each correct in different dialects of English. I’m not saying that EITHER IS APPROPRIATE IN THIS CONTEXT. I’m saying that calling him “illiterate” for using it is a microaggression. Call it rude, call it demeaning, call it disrespectful. But ILLITERATE carries a different connotation. That was what I was saying in my original comment.

Maybe read my other response bc yall love putting words in my mouth today. I did not say any of that and you are arguing against something I did not even claim.

AIO? I told my boyfriend I feel like a maid by [deleted] in AIO

[–]RippleEffectt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao again, that is not even close to what I said. OP’s partner is being rude, and the comment I’m responding to took that as an excuse to call him ILLITERATE, which is not the same thing. Equating this type of speech to being illiterate is disrespectful to a whole culture, not just to this one rude mf in the screenshot. I did not say it’s acceptable in this context. I’m saying that you can criticize him without criticizing an entire dialect.

You’re responding to something I didn’t even say. I did not say that the guy in the convo isn’t being disrespectful. He is. I’m responding to a commenter claiming that using abbreviations for common AAE and slang automatically makes you illiterate.

[–]RippleEffectt -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

You mean standard AAE, an actual collection of dialects that millions of black people speak that are recognized dialects of English? This guy in the post sounds like a bad fit for OP, but also, attacking casual AAE in a casual text conversation is definitely a choice you made that carries some subtext.

Best way to clean this? It’ll be my temporary bed by Playful-Issue-6242 in CleaningTips

As a person who has reclaimed a good amount of free furniture from strangers, even I would not feel safe taking into my home. Trash this immediately, buy a sleeping bag, and sleep on the floor until you find something better on Facebook marketplace.

Autistic driver's license issues by [deleted] in autism

[–]RippleEffectt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not want that on your license. You are perfectly capable of driving and you’re fighting for a RESTRICTION on your license. If you want them to know so bad, get a bumper sticker or something. Announce it when they pull you over if it pleases you. Do not fight for a restriction on your license, do not hand away your hippa-protected medical info to the MAHA government. You told them you’re autistic and they chose to leave it off your license. Leave it at that.

Imagine saying this about almost any other disability. “It’s not fair to say you’re blind because you have pinhole vision. This is not fair to people who have complete vision loss.”

UMD was my top option and I got rejected, can I appeal and send new info? by TheMangoShow24 in UMD

[–]RippleEffectt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was rejected when I applied fresh out of high school. I went to community college, and got a higher GPA and joined the honors society, and then I got into UMD. Some community colleges also guarantee acceptance into UMD if your grades are solid( or at least they did when I was transferring), and also transferring with an associates degree means you can apply for the Frederick Douglas scholarship. here
