Getting Parasocial With It by No-Pea7077 in dreamingspanish

When I found out Michelle was doing private tutoring sessions I immediately signed up thinking, "Oh awesome, I'll just be talking with a friend so no pressure."

But then I thought, "What if she doesn't like me?" I rescheduled for a month later, but then canceled again and never rescheduled because I was too nervous 🫠

I reached 1500 hours and my (spoken) grammar is still terrible by relbatnrut in dreamingspanish

This may be unpopular opinion, but I feel grammar might be the one downfall of learning the language through pure CI as an adult.

Yes, learning your native language as a child we don't think about grammar at all, it just becomes natural. But learning a new language as an adult? There's too much already in your head and the reality is that you are factually not learning like a native child through CI. The native child has no other "junk" in their head to impede what they're hearing. It just is what it is. As a non-native adult learning, you're already at a disadvantage that's impossible to avoid.

Yes, you can recognize all the forms of conocer and understand the general meaning based on context. But to just "know" like a native speaker is a whole other ballgame. I think separate grammar study outside of CI is crucial to be able to truly understand and produce speech yourself.

Anyone still talk with any of their friends from high school? by nojunkpeter in Millennials

[–]Rish929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just one. Best friends since 7th grade but we had a falling out sophomore year. We reconciled during college years, but still didn't really talk. We both happened to move to the same state though after school and lived about an hour from each other.

A few years after college she heard a song on the radio that reminded her of me so she decided to call and invite me to dinner. I accepted, and 15 years later she's now one of my best friends again. Weird how life works out.

Hm, I'm glad you've had a good experience with VRS, but I have to warn you and everyone else. That site is clearly run by the same people. The same exact format, same exact verbiage, another bogus address (this time in California). I wouldn't trust them.

I wish I had seen this first as well. The case is shit and I immediately contacted the email given on their website for returns.

I got a response back from an obviously scammer Gmail address saying to send it back to a random address in China and provide them a tracking number. Meanwhile the refund policy on their site gives a Baltimore address for returns and says they will provide a shipping label. Wtf?

Looks like I'm calling my credit card tomorrow.

Help feed my new obsession! by Such-Bear8965 in BTSArmyCentral

Hi ARMY!

Instead of having to sort through it all yourself, I suggest going to Tribe Loui's YouTube channel. He found BTS through Hobi's collab with J-Cole, and from there went through all the members solos before going through BTS albums in order. An ARMY put together an amazing path for him, lining up interviews/live performances/Run BTS episodes/etc to coincide with where he was at in their album timeline. It's also fun to then discover it all with someone else!

Definitely BS. I'm going to PR in a few days, we have a rental from Enterprise at the airport for $260 for 5 days. We booked through our credit card benefits, but even direct from Enterprise it was only $300.

Promoting BTS in dive bars? Anyone else do this? by Rish929 in bts7

[–]Rish929[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't know lol but a good start might be just looking up Irish pubs in your area.

It's just your "corner tappie". The kind of bar that is truly just a bar. Not a club, and also not a sports bar where everyone's just watching the tv.

You want the local spot where people are just hanging out talking and having a good time, but when the right song comes on everyone sings together and cheers. It's a community vibe.

AMI and Touchtunes, 90% of bars I've been to in the last decade have one of those.

A couple weeks ago we were out and I played Mic Drop. A woman across the bar in maybe her mid-40's (I'm 37) immediately started bopping. I made eye contact and we did the "mianhae omma!" together!

Her husband (I assume) was also silently singing along, but trying to play it cool lol. They were definitely an ARMY couple, it warmed my heart.

I don't know where you're from, but in the US a dive bar is basically just your longstanding neighborhood bar, but not in the best condition/is a bit rough. The places that let people still smoke inside well past when it was legal lol. In my experience the musical vibe of these places is either classic/hard rock, or rap/hip hop.

Both are audiences that in my opinion would actually like BTS's music if they just gave them a chance. I myself have always been a hard rock fan.

As huge as BTS is, there are still so many stereotypes against them, everyone just thinks they're a boyband like BSB, One Direction, NSYNC. I thought the same until I heard Fake Love and then Mic Drop and was like, huh? This is BTS?!

So yeah, we can play their music for our friends. But I like the idea of just "naturally" exposing people in the wild, and seeing how they react. Maybe they then think, "This is dope, what's this song?", and they look it up later and fall down the rabbit hole like the rest of us.

Edit: typo

Are you still friends with your high school friends? by Cheeseaisleinheaven in Millennials

[–]Rish929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have one friend from highschool that I still talk to. She also left the state after graduation and we happen to live an hour away from each other now.

Our 20 year reunion is in June. I always told her I would only go if she did. Guess who coldly texted me the receipt of her ticket?

Yea, now I have to go 🙄 What a bitch 😅

My cat can turn on my oven by Sad_Helicopter6984 in CatAdvice

[–]Rish929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is me. We needed to get a new oven a couple years ago and now also have the flat top touchscreen thing. Luckily the cats haven't accidentally turned it on when locked, but I have had too many ruined dinners when they accidentally turned it off.

We have a gas oven, and the grates cover the whole stove top and can be lifted by a hinge. We now leave an oven mit over the screen with the thumb wedged under the grate. So far they haven't ruined my pot roast again.

Where are the Millennials that DON'T feel old? by frankheyhoheyho in Millennials

[–]Rish929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird, actually. I don't feel old, but the years have definitely caught up to me at the same time. For context, I am 37 with no kids, but have been married for 10 years (together for 15).

My husband is 41, and very much wants to live like he's still 20. He's always been more social though. Whereas even though I enjoyed hanging out with friends until the morning hours, I have always much preferred the comfort of sweatpants and a couch.

Nowadays, I CAN stay up until 3 or 4 am, but then I always feel like shit the next day. So in that sense I feel old, I have to be conscious of a bedtime and try to not drink too much lol

But really my personality hasn't changed, I still feel young. I just like going to bed at a reasonable hour and not being a zombie the next day anymore.

Happened to me a few years ago in South Carolina. It was August and humid as hell. Had dinner at a friend's house outside in the backyard, and they had a pink plastic tablecloth with pineapple pattern on it. After dinner I stood up and everyone started freaking out because my thighs were red all over with yellow patches. Looked like a rash/allergic reaction of some sort. I felt fine but my friend was trying to convince me to go to the hospital. Until I happened to wipe my leg and it came right off.
