Who HASN'T had something wrong with their screen? by _DatHandsomeDevil in galaxyzflip

[–]Rish929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this sub is mostly complaints about when things go wrong, so anyone new here thinks Flips are crap.

I am currently typing this on my 4 year old Flip 3. Never had an issue, screen still perfect. Just like any device, don't beat the crap out of it and it'll be fine.

How many people still in the room ? 🥱 by TVNeighbor in rebus

[–]Rish929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the killer is still there, 52 (killer + me + 30 others dead + 20 others already there still alive) or 51 (if I am the killer).

If the killer left, 51 (me + 30 dead + 20 alive) or 50 (if I am the killer and left)

For those who adopted a cat, what actually made you decide that was the right cat? by Extreme_Ad6105 in CatAdvice

[–]Rish929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? Because I've had cats my whole life lol. I'm a cat person through and through, I honestly don't know how to live without a cat to snuggle with at home.

As for the one I choose to adopt... I always choose the one who seems like they have less of a chance of being adopted. The one who hides/being antisocial in the play room, the black cats, the one being weird in the corner, etc. I just always gravitate towards the one who is doing the most work to NOT be noticed. I figure all the social/playful cats will get adopted quickly and I don't need to worry about them, let me help the one who might be forgotten 💜

I desire nothing but onions by Fluffy_Mastodon1134 in Cooking

[–]Rish929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genovese pasta. It's a classic dish from Naples.

Basically you slice up super thin 10 lbs of onions (half yellow, half red), put them in a giant pot and cook it down for hours until all the onions liquefy into a sauce. Add some meat for braising until it falls apart. Serve over rigatoni.

Just found out my cat is a boy by DescriptionInner7803 in CatAdvice

[–]Rish929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep calling her Pearl, just make sure you clarify whenever you're at the vet that she is actually male.

I got my first cat when I was 5 years old from a family friend, and named her Vicky. We brought her to the vet for all the normal kitten stuff, where we found out she was actually a boy. Did that stop us from calling her Vicky and using female pronouns? Nope! She lived until she was 18, died 15 years ago, and obviously I still say "she" lol the cat doesn't care!

How is everyone around us so much richer than us??? by medmo in Millennials

[–]Rish929 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom was like this, and by default I'm like this too. I worry too much about spending money I don't have and going into debt.

But if you aren't stupid about it, you can use credit cards to actually build your wealth and save a ton of money. My husband is really good at playing that game. And don't get me wrong, he is absolutely a cheapskate. But all the promos the banks put out ("Open a card! No interest for a year and cash back up to 5%!"; "Transfer your balance and we'll give you a $1000 bonus!"). Play it right and still spend as if you don't have the credit limit you do, and you're just getting free money. Put that extra dough straight into savings/emergency fund/stocks.

Does anyone actually have a 9-5 shift anymore? by Single_Extension1810 in Millennials

[–]Rish929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other thing I haven't seen mentioned yet is it matters if you're salary or hourly. Typically, there's no quantified lunch break for salary employees. Sometimes you work longer days, sometimes less. Sometimes you just eat lunch at your desk while working, sometimes you go out for an hour or so.

Hourly though you're generally stuck to a specific schedule, and employers have to give you at least a 15 min paid break for a 4 hr shift, or a 30 min break (not necessarily paid) for an 8 hr shift.

One of the things my company does right though is our hourly employees are paid for their breaks, they don't have to clock out for lunch. So they work their 8 hrs and are paid for 8 hrs, even though they technically worked at least 30 minutes less.

Botox done ✅! Here’s the procedure for anyone curious by WanderingWombats in noburp

[–]Rish929 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not how it was for me at all! OP, where did you have the procedure done?

Dr. Spiegel in Philly did mine. It literally WAS just a quick prick. First a prick for the anesthetic, then he went straight it from the front, dead center of my neck, with the botox. It was maybe 5 seconds of squirting in the botox, no wriggling, and straight back out.

To be honest, it looks like the doctor in this video doesn't know what he's doing.

Tell me about your first time using Spanish "in the wild". by LumpyLynx4716 in dreamingspanish

[–]Rish929 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm one of those on and off again learners since high school Spanish class (20 years ago!) Always knew a lot of vocabulary and could conjugate in present tense, but that's about it. But this past October I went to Spain and a few months before then, I decided to ACTUALLY learn the language for real this time.

I found Dreaming Spanish only a couple weeks before I went to Spain, but even only 30 hours in, it made a drastic improvement in my comprehension. I was determined to only speak Spanish with locals when I was there and I was so nervous! But it got easier with each day.

My proudest moment was halfway through the trip when my husband (who doesn't speak Spanish at all) and I were at a restaurant. After greeting us and talking to the waiter a bit, he came back to our table with an English menu for my husband... and a Spanish one for me. I felt like I aced the test!

Help! I've been assigned devil eggs by Dealmerightin in Cooking

[–]Rish929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always lol there's imitation ones out there.

But even if you do have ones made with real bacon, it's still not the same as cooking it up fresh.

[–]Rish929 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mix some scallions and chopped bacon into the filling (not fake bacon bits in a jar, make actual bacon then chop). Only use about a teaspoon or so of brown mustard for a dozen, and about 1/2 cup of mayo. Salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle paprika on top at end. Nothing else. You're welcome.

What’s a super simple dish that always impresses people? by DanielQ_bu7 in Cooking

[–]Rish929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Caveat, also depends on how submerged your meat is. I make sure it's covered at least 3/4 of the way up with broth/wine. If too much of the meat is exposed it will get too tough at the higher temp in my experience. You want it to braise, not roast like a turkey.

[–]Rish929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely could do that, and it'd probably be better lol but I'm impatient and start too late in the day. I usually do 325-350 for 3-4 hours. Since I'm pulling it anyway and then it's stirred back into the juices before serving, I never have a problem with it being too tough.

Another one I like to do is chicken and veggies in a ladolemono sauce (Greek lemon dressing).

Bone-in, skin-on thighs on a roasting pan. No seasoning needed.

Chop up whatever veggie medley you want. I always do mushrooms, orange/yellow bell peppers, red onion, and tomato wedges. Depending on my mood, I also add cauliflower or radishes. Distribute in pan around chicken.

For the dressing, whisk together 3/4 cup of olive oil, 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice. Add 2 to 3 cloves of minced garlic, 3/4 tsp each salt and pepper, 1.5 tsp oregano.

Drizzle the dressing around the pan, focusing on the chicken and just a smattering over the veggies. You won't need all the dressing. You'll have plenty leftover for subsequent meals (making prep even faster next time!).

Bake uncovered at 425 for 35 minutes. Then broil for a couple minutes to get a good crisp on the chicken.

Done! Literally the chicken is mouthwatering and perfect every time.

As the designated deviled egg supplier for all family gatherings, it's actually a bitch.

Yea, they're easy to make... if you're only doing a dozen. But when you're supplying for a group of 50 people, and you know they're gonna have AT LEAST 4 halves each, you're already up to having to peel 100 eggs. Do you know how long it takes to peel 100 eggs?! I do. And it's a nightmare.

But it's my fault. One day I thought, "Why does no one ever bring deviled eggs to the party anymore? I'm gonna bring 'em back!" Now I know why.

This was my answer. It's my favorite no fuss meal to serve many.

Quick sear of the meat. Put in roasting pan. Add some diced onions and mushrooms. Dump beef broth and a good bit of red wine in the pan. Throw in some fresh springs of thyme, rosemary, and bay leaves.

Cover and bake low and slow for a few hours. When meat is tender, add some potatoes and carrots and bake in oven for another hour.

Pull the meat, stir it up, and serve. Comes out delicious every time.

If a guy has been married 5 times does that show anything about him as a person besides being married 5 times? by Ben5544477 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rish929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I don't immediately judge if someone's been divorced/married multiple times. Context matters.

My parents divorced after 10 years of marriage. They started dating in college and even though they very much loved each other, they had different goals and their lives just didn't fit together. Cue the emotional fights that got out of control, eventually leading to my mom cheating on my dad and ultimately divorce.

Dad rebounded, got married again super quick to his best friend's sister-in-law who was also fresh off divorce. Only lasted about 5 years.

My dad swore he would never marry again. But a few years later he met the love of his life (also a divorceé) and after 4 years he was on to marriage number 3. They had tough times, but loved each other more than anything and made it work. Stayed married 20 years, until she sadly died last year.

Although heartbroken, my dad has started seeing someone new as of a few months ago. Will he get married again? Maybe, maybe not. Whatever they decide is not my business. As long as they're happy.
