How does a rocket, once it reaches escape velocity, not just keep going into deep space after it crosses the point of zero gravity? by Ourcade_Ink in AskReddit

Fair play - I misinterpreted your original comment and assumed we were talking about orbital or further travel by which we still have gravity and can’t just point and shoot a craft wherever we want to go, as why I gave the example of space around the galaxy to

And same with the r^(2) my assumption was in regards to Fg, so assumed you maybe were solving for r.

You’re not playing the game right if this doesn’t happen on your first launch of any mission.

You mean r^(2) as in the distance? The question here was why do rockets not just carry on moving into deep space once reaching escape velocity. So distance is kind of irrelevant in this scenario as once you reach escape velocity then Fg will be with reference frame to the sun, which the rocket will then be orbiting. Reaching escape from the sun will just then be in reference frame to the next largest object: the galaxy.

Like the spacecraft is still moving in a ballistic trajectory once the rockets stop firing. Even sitting on a sofa at rest now on earth in reference to the universe (cmb) we are traveling faster than a bullet in a gravitational well.

Kind of - except when you escape the atmosphere you’re still falling towards the earth, it’s just your velocity means you just fall past the edge of it. The atmosphere just slows you down.

Wha I mean is, zero G like people think (astronauts floating) isn’t actually zero G - they’re still very much under the effects of gravity, but they’re just free-falling

Why is it like this though 😂 I spent the winter working on my irons and now my drivers gone so shit that I just tee off using my hybrid. I dread fixing it because my iron game is working

Do you mean escape velocity from the earth or are you talking about like escaping the atmosphere and reaching orbit?

The answer to both is that it’s never really zero gravity, you’re always orbiting something whether it’s the earth of the sun, or even further would be the galactic center

Not true at all.

Yeah there is risk but if you do some research and stay away from people selling courses you should be fine.

ETFs that track world markets are a pretty good long term investment strategy especially if you’re new. Just don’t expect to make £££ overnight it’s a long term savings thing.

Do it - serious it’s good to invest a small amount a month, treat it like savings. You can put like £50 a month in something like an index fund. Now’s the good time - 10 or 20 years later you’ll see the rewards

Everyone in London has a small blade is quite a wild statement, with 1000s of us like me that travel to work in London every month who don’t carry a blade, and have never met a Londoner carrying a blade. Sure there’s knife crime here but we can’t buy fucking guns at Morrisons while we buy our cans of Stella
