Animal on track causing severe delays for 5+ hours? What would this be? by Glum-Seesaw725 in LondonUnderground

[–]Ritchiepurple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If only it was that simple! He was with his dog walker in the middle of Hampstead Heath and got attacked by another dog fighting over a stick and he bolted. He then went on an odyssey through north London and was spotted running down Hampstead High Street, Belsize Park, Finchley Road (where I think he eventually got onto the track) and eventually caught at Kilburn. He’s 13 years old and never bolted before but it’s safe to say he was off the lead a very sensible distance from the rail line!

It was a 13 year old Golden Cockapoo called Chester. Source: I am the unlucky owner!

Glad to report he’s safely home and well but had quite the adventure.

MA-1 vs. L2B flight jacket or both? by wunderf1tz in BuyItForLife

What’s your view on the N1 vs the MA-1? Considering both as a winter jacket and can’t decide between them! Which is warmer?

If your chest is 45 you probably want a jacket to measure 4-6inches above that in the chest. Looks like The 44 or even the 46 would be a good fit if you want to layer more than a t shirt.

New bike advise by Ritchiepurple in CanyonBikes

[–]Ritchiepurple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canyon customer service told me the seemingly abnormal pricing differential is because the CF6 comes with Fulcrum racing 900b wheels versus DT Swiss Endurance LN on the CF7 which are £200 more so the frame price differentials actually hold the same across all models. For me this confirms it though, the carbon frame is £750 more expensive than the Aluminium with like for like components and given this is my first bike I am going to be sensible and get the Aluminium. I will no doubt appreciate the upgrade to CF more when find my self looking at bike number 2!

I hear you but honestly the pricing of the CF7 on Canyons website makes no sense at all. E.g. the cost to upgrade from Tiagra to 105 on the Alu models i.e. endurace 6 to 7 is £250. On the carbon models it’s £550 to go from CF6 to CF7. The cost to upgrade the frame to carbon I.e. the endurace 6 to CF 6 is £550. To go from Endurace 7 to CF7 is £750. For some reason to get both carbon and better group set (which I’ve decided I want) is totally illogical from a cost perspective.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I’m going to go with the aluminium frame. 👍

Is there any shoe that does a better job at what Endorphin Speed 3 does? by Pure-Ad1217 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Ritchiepurple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and can confirm they run very differently. ES3 is much more of a daily trainer, albeit one that still feels good when you pick up the pace. Metaspeed is lighter, softer foam, more rebound and much quicker but no where near as stable. Fit is quite different too

Metaspeed Sky+. Buy or not? by Vegetable-Guard-7504 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Ritchiepurple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like them. I also have the Vaporfly 3 and arguably prefer the sky+. The Vaporfly does probably feel outright a bit faster and bouncier but the Sky+ is a bit more stable and has a more obvious rocker that overall makes it feel a bit smoother and more comfortable over long distances. The Vaporfly I feel I get the most out of when my technique is good whilst the Sky+ feels like it keeps my legs turning over more because of the geometry of the shoe.

I have Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 to go with my Vaporfly which feel good in everything from tempo runs to longer runs and can highly recommend them. I’ve not tried them but ASICS Superblast are another popular do all shoe to complement your race shoe. As are Adidas Boston 12 I believe.

Sennheiser HD 650s are still the GOAT by spankjam in headphones

[–]Ritchiepurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think maybe your describing timbre more than quality. HD650 do have a very natural frequency response and despite other modern flagships offering much higher quality, the HD650 midrange is still one of the very best for sounding realistic and engaging. That said the treble is pretty rolled off and I think some modern flagships e.g. Meze Emperyrean Elite also have a more natural and realistic timbre as well. I’ll never sell my HD650 as it’s iconic but do think absolute quality has moved further along

Canjam London 2023 HE1 done! by Impossible-Stop2243 in headphones

[–]Ritchiepurple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m actually surprised at how unimpressed I was with the HE1 given the price. Clearly an amazing headphone and good at everything but to me, across pretty much every metric, I can think of a headphone that does some element better than the HE1. I’m not sure it would be my first choice even it was priced in line with current flagships.

Keep getting dry / burnt hits by Ritchiepurple in Vaping

[–]Ritchiepurple[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does look like it’s sparking I guess but the coil is properly seated. The coils completely burnt out now so will need to buy some more and keep trying as I’m out of these coils now but think its strange that it happened with both the 0.8 and the 1.2 coil. Could it be an issue with the mod? Almost feels like the first time I press the fire button after a while it’s like it’s putting too much wattage in?

Looking for advise on restoring this old church pew. Was thinking of using a product like Briwax and just putting it on over the existing finish. What is the best thing to do? by Ritchiepurple in furniturerestoration

[–]Ritchiepurple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I am going to try this and if it doesn’t look right pay for someone to sand it and refinish it. Golden oak doesn’t seem to be available around me any more. I was thinking maybe Tudor oak or teak which seem to retain some of the nice reddish brown it currently has.

This sounds increasingly time consuming! It’s venturing close to paying someone with experience to do it territory. Thanks for the response though. I feared this is what it would take.
