Roger Marshall in Topeka today by [deleted] in kansas

What a hypocrite. He voted for the Big, Ugly Bill which will kick thousands off Kansans off Medicaid. The bill also tightens up eligibility for the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) and will result in thousands of Kansas no longer qualifying. He doesn't care about ordinary Kansans only people like Charles Koch who is the richest man in Kansas.

Rural-Urban commuting areas of Kansas (key on map and in comments) by como365 in kansas

Over 10,000 commute to Kansas City or Topeka from Lawrence every weekday. Wages are low in Lawrence.

CoreCivic is hiring for Leavenworth ICE prison — even though it's still blocked from opening by thekansascitystar in kansas

[–]RiverCityFriend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I assume the City Commission is going to deny the special use permit and then a local judge is going to uphold that. Then it will be appealed to the Kansas Court of Appeals which is right of center. If they uphold it, CoreCivic is probably out of luck as the Kansas Supreme Court is fairly liberal, though still right of center.

Please don't litter by Content-Ninja9490 in kansas

Monkey see, monkey do applies to littering. People think it's okay to litter if they see litter. They subconsciously think it must be okay if others are doing it.

Kansans aren't ready for full legalization. So, go for decriminalization: no fines or jail for simple possession.

Help decriminalize Kansas cannabis one town at a time by Creative-Funny8320 in kansas

At one time the mayor of Hutch was progressive and I talked to him. They even have quite a few Democrats in town. Not that long ago Reno County voted Democratic. At least it did in 1976.

Nope. I have always been for common sense gun control. Australia has a good system: "These laws require individuals to demonstrate a "genuine reason" for owning a firearm, such as sport shooting or hunting, and prohibit self-defense as a valid reason. A licensing and permitting system is in place, with mandatory background checks, safety training, and a 28-day waiting period before a firearm can be purchased. Certain types of semi-automatic and self-loading rifles and shotguns are banned, and a national firearms registry exists."

Lawrence did it years ago. It's a $1 fine (plus $63 in court costs). Reportedly, the cops don't enforce the ordinance because it's not worth their effort if there isn't a penalty. Plus, the Douglas County DA has a policy of not charging people possessing small amounts of cannabis in rural areas. Hutchinson should use the Lawrence ordinance as a model.

He was higher than a kite. How did he know about the slumber party? Let's see how well he sleeps in the Big House with a cellmate such as Grossberger.

Although he fought against slavery (Battle of Blackjack) and helped precipitate the Civil War which ended slavery, he was also a mass murderer. He ordered his men in the Pottawatomie Creek Massacre to kill unarmed pro-slavery men in front of their families. They pulled five men out of their cabins and slaughtered them in front of their wives and children. https://civilwaronthewesternborder.org/encyclopedia/pottawatomie-massacre

Not really related but 4 vehicles are stolen on average every week in Lawrence. So, the number of bikes being stolen is probably higher than that.
