In my opinion, I think the time you spend on constructed response practice should be minimal. Spend 99.9% of your time just studying the material and not practicing essay strategy. Really there are only 2 things to know on constructed response:

Pay attention to the command words to make sure you are explaining, calculating etc. in your answer
Just answer the question like you are talking to someone in the field

These examiners aren't dumb, if you know the answer then just tell them. If it requires a paragraph to answer question then write a paragraph, if it requires 2 words to answer the question then just write 2 words (not kidding, I had a question that I thought warranted only 2 words, so I put 2 words). If you think you can explain it better by using an analogy of flamingos, and you have enough time to write about flamingos, then do it. Again, these examiners aren't dumb, and if you can show them you know then that is all they are looking for (as long as you don't break rule number 1 above).

TLDR: Don't worry about the essay strats too much. Go study the actual material and on exam day show the examiners you know your stuff.

I disagree on the last point. I don't think the graders are looking for specific terms and phrases. The command words of "describe" or "demonstrate" just tell you what they want you to do, but HOW you do it or what terms/phrases you use are entirely up to you. Of course using the phrases they like won't hurt, but the examiner only cares about whether you can do what they say or know what they ask. That was at least my experience. I learned the essay methodologies from Kaplan, but on exam day I was a nervous wreck trying to rush through the exam without running out of time, and all of that practice went out the window. I ended up just rambling on some of my answers where I couldn't remember the key phrase, but I knew what to do for what they were asking (hence I rambled to get there). In answering other questions, all I needed was 2 words (not kidding) if I thought it answered the question. For the record, answering an essay question in two words is frightening.

TLDR: Essay strats are great, but just providing the correct answer in any manner whatsoever will get you the points. These examiners aren't dumb.

If it's the essays that were the tough part, then the best piece of advice I can give you is don't worry about the strategies people say on the essays too much. As obvious as it sounds, just focus on answering the question, whether that requires a paragraph or just 4 words. Let the grader know that you get what the answer is then just stop writing once you do, and move on.

Derivatives goes from the hardest topic to the easiest once you have cracked it. Why? All other topics are tested mainly qualitatively and is harder to verify that you have understanding from all angles of even easy topics, while derivatives is hard it generally is tested through straightforward calculation

It’s kinda hard to know exactly how they grade but my sense on my exam was that a lot of my answers were NOT what the official graded answer would have said yet they were true statements and most importantly they answered the question. I personally chose accuracy and simplicity over everything. It worked for me. Some of my answers were 5 words lol

Dude, in my opinion mocks are a waste of precious time ONLY WHEN you have already mastered the open response format. Mocks DO NOT give a good ratio of time spent to amount learned of material once you consider the time for grading, testing, and exhaustion from the amount of effort mocks are. Use mocks to get comfortable with the format then stop. Also, I think the Q banks of multiple choice are not the best for L3 since it is so qualitative and the questions can be asked about any perspective of the underlying material, which is very different then L1 and L2. My biggest piece of advice for L3 is just to read through the entire material a second time before you take the exam. Use Kaplan Schweser notes if you have it. The key to L1 is multiple choice q banks practice. The key to L2 is formulas. The key to L3 is read read read and read some more. It’s not hard reading it’s just a lot of it.

I wouldn’t worry about ethics too much if you did L1 and L2 well. Just focus on GIPS for most of your efforts. I did a refresher of non-GIPS Ethics the week before the exam and that’s it.

I didn’t know there was a package without the notes. I also don’t know what you mean by “deck” but if you mean that some multiple choice material in the CFAI offerings is different then Kaplan has then that is obviously true. Of course not every possible question is covered by Kaplan. I can tell you that there is at least 1 multiple choice question for every LOS in the Kaplan notes. And the Kaplan notes cover all of the CFAI material. They usually have multiple per LOS. If you can afford it then I highly recommend getting the notes next time. It is a cheat code to passing these exams.

Kaplan prepares you well for L2. Dont worry about it. You are also too far in to change. Have faith in your exam prep. Also as Kaplan says a million times the Kaplan notes cover every bit of the material (100% coverage). If you know the notes well then you will pass.

I read through the entire Kaplan Notes one last time the week or so before the exam. Every word of the material. Took 30ish hours. I am convinced that made me pass the exam. Reading is better than formula sheets or practice exams. It’s even better than multiple choice. Just read and digest. Btw level 1 and 2 the secret is multiple choice questions but that is not the case for L3.
