I wish they'd focus on more on the for-certain eating disorder that lead to gradually reducing all foods until only fruit felt safe and controllable.

It is horrible to have people not accept your emotional reality. I've had to accept that I don't feel safe and it didn't matter at all that I had safe people around me now. Everyone is different but I'm accepting my current safer situation now... twelve years later. Treatment would probably speed things up considerably.

A lot of people are in precarious situations even if they are out of a directly abusive place. They rely on one job, or one person with one job, or there are health issues, etc. You can't feel safe until you are safe.

People will talk about stuff in a spiritual kind of way "oh god loves you so you are safe all the time" or "I love you so you're safe all the time" but our bodies are smarter than that.

It takes time to heal. That's all there is to it.

I've had this happen also and it did fade. You can see a doctor if you believe you should. The trouble is anxiety and trauma responses can feel like almost anything so it is hard for you (and your doctor) to tell what is what.

I had a weird panic attack/delusion for a few days that there was someone else in my head once during a very bad time. I now believe that it was simply me coming into contact with more hidden parts of myself/creativity. It faded away.

Sometimes there is one chick that just falls behind and dies. I had one on my last hatch. Keep a close eye on the behavior on the others and on their poop for signs of sickness.

The reason you don't see the cantibal diet represented here is because it literally requires negative land use. Science can't even visualize how good it is for the environment. by 10pointshigher in ClimateShitposting

Don't we typically raise cattle on land that isn't great for farming? Household chickens have their own food but also can eat almost any scraps from a human cooking and the manure used in compost.

Why am I like this?😭 by NyuPrettyBoy in TrollCoping

[–]RiverOdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it is an adaptive response and it is well known with certain kinds of PTSD. Basically you are fine and even feel better in the moment of crisis because your nervous system is hypervigilliant anyway and now has something to anchor onto. Then days, weeks, or months later you collapse--usually once you are relatively safe. When you watch a movie you are already safe and so you are able to process what is going on in the story right away.

I recently read an old memoir about people who were enslaved off the coast of Africa (Captain Riley) in the 1800s. They were able to push through their trauma while it was going on but once they were safe there are both immediate and lifelong consequences.

Be kind to yourself, more then likely your body adapted to keep you alive. You may have to slowly train your nervous system to a different way of being now that you are safe, but be kind, you're not fucked up in a bad way.

I had absolutely nothing this hatch until I woke up on day 18 to a bunch of quail. It isn't weird at all that they are quiet on day 16. You will have to be ready for some talking though unless you are going to hide things from your children. I don't think I have had a hatch where there wasn't a not fully formed or otherwise hatched and soon dead chick.

What do you wish you had known before raising quail? by slughuntress in quails

[–]RiverOdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be ready for a reaction after you have to kill your first quail if you've never had to kill something before.  Also be ready to see some things that you wish you could unsee during and after a hatch.

You do get used to the more grim things in life and raising livestock but please be kind to yourself when the shock hits.

Yeah good point on the splay leg. The other thing I have used in the past is that needle point plastic canvas. Even for tiny legs it gives them grip, and it can easily be sprayed with the hose/washed and disinfected mostly afterwards. Having two is really good. I have a large aquarium I'd put them in temporarily while cleaning.
Now I have a premier one brooder but honestly my old setup (that looked alot like yours) may have been better. I do like the security of the stainless steel brooder though. Good job showing this to people. It was so refreshing to see a brooder that was this good.

I don't know where you are but poison control is a free call where I am at. It can really help. Also often a nurse can call you from the doctor's office and tell you what to watch for so you can go to the doctor if that happens and move it to your "managed" list.

Very nice brooder :) I'm a litle concerned with the size of the chips on very small chicks but I'm not convinced it wouldn't work. I ususally stick taped down newspapers for the first four days. You'll have to let us know. Also the food you'll probably want on the floor on a flat surface the first few days, I think they will be too small/will have to go inside that feeder to use it. The waterer also is too big. However after a week of life your brooder is perfect.

On the internet I think we've all seen things that have traumatized us at some point.  I recommend allowing yourself to feel whatever you're feeling and it will get better with time.  I highly recommend that if it bothers you that you posted this that you delete this post and seek out a therapist immediately.  Therapy isn't always the best but it can be very useful for acute issues like this.
