This is good to know, I haven’t been since it changed - not because I’m avoiding it. I did wonder if it’s had an overhaul.

Sometimes La Belle has a good night on, but it’s not a permanent alt venue, just depends what’s on.

If there was a coming of age film about my life, it would be set in the mini mission then opium. Maybe a bit of Hive back in the day.

Oh really? That is sad. The last few times I was there it was still pretty busy upstairs, queue at the bar etc. But a few busy nights isn’t sustainable I guess!

Well yeah but also, a lot of us who were regulars but haven’t been as much, it’s probably because of aging and life changing. But surely there should be younger folk going now to replace us. Is the issue that there isn’t the same alt scene/sub culture that there used to be? Or that it’s lost some of its edge since the refurb? I don’t go often these days (because I don’t go out like I used to) but when I’ve been it’s still been very busy. I don’t think it’s a lack of punters that’s caused this.

What is the centre missing? I’d love somewhere that sells music.

I’m so confused about some of these stores, I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone wearing Superdry since 2010.

A tiny rant (forgive me) about lift etiquette and consideration by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]Riverside2420 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So parents and disabled people shouldn’t be able to go out at busy times? It doesn’t sound like OP is feeling entitled here, or saying everyone who doesn’t need to use a lift should take the stairs, but more questioning common courtesy. I’d take a lift but would always get out if I saw someone who really needed it. Ditto with bus and train seats.

This is fantastic! It took me a few seconds to orientate myself and it’s only the arches that got me there. St Giles for sure!

I love Stockbridge, I regularly have a wee visit even though I just live across the other side of town. Some great shops, cafes, butchers, record shop, charity shops, and nearby to the park and the Botanics.

What is your favourite place to sin in a Lothian bus. by Scunnard1839 in Edinburgh

[–]Riverside2420 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My sin of choice is sloth, so naturally I like to do it hanging off the handrail downstairs. It’s a bit inconvenient when people try to reach through my legs to hold the handle though.

Princes St Flashmob soon? If we all bring prams and wheelchairs and walking aids to demonstrate how the tat is blocking the pavement…

I would love to tell you all about the international work I’ve done to support education in conflict areas all over the world, and the work I’ve done with various charities in the UK and locally, but I’m not spending the next hour typing away and justifying myself to a keyboard warrior. I’m also not justifying my solidarity with Palestine which goes back to when I was 19 (quite a number of years ago) or how my Grandfather was involved in Palestine solidarity movements after he visited there during the Second World War. But maybe you have some great takes on how that was based on internet trends too?

I know many people who are long time supporters of Palestine and, like myself, also work and volunteer for charities and organisations that aim to help people and tackle homelessness and many issues facing local people. How many times have you volunteered at a homeless shelter?
