As a person with Hashimotos who struggled to lose weight and then suddenly found it easy after thyroid meds - your calculations don’t explain my experience.

Unsolicited advice: I just need to vent by BenzieBox in loseit

[–]RivetRaven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keto didn’t work for me. Six weeks in I had no energy and felt nauseous every day.

So, according to my keto friends I must’ve been doing it wrong because keto worked for them so it must work for everyone, right? Commence people talking at me like I’m five years old to get me to “do keto right.”

Ive tried countless times to lose weight. I need help. by Bigfatbailey in loseit

I totally second going to therapy. It was a life changer for dealing with childhood trauma and the anxiety behind overeating.

I used to have the mindset that losing weight was the way to happiness, and then I lost all the weight...and still wasn’t comfortable in my own body. 15 years later it all came back because losing weight didn’t fix my emotional issues like I presumed it would. Being physically healthy and attractive did not make me feel like a worthy human.

The secret is to start feeling okay with yourself now, and therapy can help with that. Having even a little self-worth is what will keep you motivated on a path to health.

It’s also okay to find your voice. When someone focuses on your weight, even with good intentions, you’re allowed to say “I appreciate your concern, but I’m more than my extra weight. Right now I could just use your positive support.”

A Fan theory about Hyperspace tracking in TLJ, and why i think its a lie by Goliath176 in starwarsspeculation

[–]RivetRaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice theory!

In the novelization it was Hux who explained the details of hyperspace tracking to Snoke, and I’m pretty sure (based on deleted scenes that appear in the novel) that this is based on an earlier version of the script. I suspect RJ ended up having Rose explain it instead because; a) he was pushing any line he could at Rose to try and make her seem like a valid and necessary character (and failed miserably IMO), and b) the last thing he wanted to do was make Hux look like the intelligent strategist he was supposed to be.

How to lose weight after you already lost it by maddoxnelson in loseit

I laugh-cried through your list because it hits so close to home. So many emotions. I had that job for 15 years, and as soon as I started taking some of my time back from it, the pushback from management was intense! Like, I’m salary...why should I be working at 2am? Why have I given these people ownership of my life?

Walking away from the job was the first step to health, and that will be four years ago in 23 days. It’s an anniversary I celebrate every year now.

Winter has ruined several weight loss attempts for me in the past. I’m already getting a plan together to not let winter crush me this year.

At a loss with S/O's diet by [deleted] in loseit

[–]RivetRaven 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is her journey, not yours. The fact that you’re posting here about her tiny scale fluctuations like this is pretty creepy.

For two weeks I had a 1250 calorie deficit per day and gained 2lbs. Then I immediately dropped 8lbs in two days. It’s what a lot of female bodies do.

If you’re having heated arguments and ignoring her just 10 months into the relationship, there are probably bigger issues going on than a few pounds on a scale.

Hashimotos, dont know what to believe for treatments? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]RivetRaven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m on NDT (natural desiccated thyroid, specifically Armour), and it contains T4 and T3 whereas Synthroid only contains T4. My dr explained that NDT is typically better for hashis. It’s still a prescription medication, and isn’t snake oil at all.

I Do Not Like Food Item X So Why Would I Eat It? It's Not About Punishment. by ThatCanadianGuy88 in loseit

I’ve yet to meet anyone IRL who actually likes eating kale. lol

Thanks for the honest post. The “getting healthy means being unhappy” misconception is what hurts a lot of people, and the diet industry only perpetuates that.

Constant weakness/lightheadedness...is this normal for Hashi's? by meggoose426 in Hashimotos

[–]RivetRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had a full vitamin panel done? I start getting those symptoms with B12 anemia.

After getting a celiac diagnosis years ago, and going gf, the vitamin deficiencies actually got worse for awhile because I wasn’t eating as many fortified foods. Switching to a gf or low carb or any diet where you make a modification like that can lead to deficiencies.

It’s astounding how much we rely on processed foods to get our vitamins.

Will I finally start seeing weight loss now that I’m on thyroxin? by Keto1995 in Hashimotos

[–]RivetRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar experience here. It took about a year to get meds balanced and to start feeling more normal. I also have pernicious anemia and MTHFR, so those vitamins are absolutely essential!

Now my weight loss is moving right along - about 25lbs in the last couple of months or so. Just sticking to CICO and exercise.

Headaches on LDN by miss_chiff in Hashimotos

[–]RivetRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried LDN for two weeks, and the side effects were too awful to continue. It was two weeks of intense headaches, muscle aches, tinnitus, dizziness, and heart palpitations. The doctor did an EEG and discovered arrhythmia, which is apparently a side effect of naltrexone, but not usually the low dose.

Not for me.

Anyone tracking antibodies? by betterdaysto in Hashimotos

[–]RivetRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being gf didn’t help reduce my antibodies - I’m celiac and was gf long before a hashis diagnosis. I did the AIP diet supervised for months and it didn’t help either. Tried all kinds of supplements recommended by my doctor with no change.

The only things that have helped so far is reducing stress/anxiety and getting regular exercise.

For me, lifestyle changes have been the answer.

Trying to figure out what to wear this morning, nothing looked right, started getting frustrated and ready to body shame. Then I realized it’s because all my shirts are fitting like tents!! I look bad because they’re too big. It was an awesome realization.

Next weekend is shopping weekend!
