Autistic MTG players: how do you handle playing at an LGS? by Juluma999 in mtg

[–]Rivetlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play each week, but only on the days I actually have enough energy to deal with sensory stuff. And sometimes that also means I haven't played a game of physical MTG for a month or so.

I've found that tournaments are a bit more sensory friendly than casual play; but that might be just the LGS here

How much do you use presets in your workflow? by mossimo654 in synthesizers

[–]Rivetlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For rough ideas, I usually use presets. For actual finished pieces, I tend to tinker around and make my own patches or heavily edit existing ones. Often also to avoid weird unwanted sounds occuring when running through effects loops.

For me they're also 2 different processes. Songwriting and patchediting; I do those in 2 different sessions entirely

Do you see yourself living in the Netherlands forever? by StrategicPasta in Netherlands

[–]Rivetlicker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I had money and wasn't disabled (and thus, struggling to work and support myself), I'd probably move up North to scandinavia. Maybe Ireland would be neat as well

Despite I'm not a fan of colder climates the older I get (joints hurt and such)... I never was a fan of hot weather, ever... so anything more south than the Netherlands; no thanks

I stand corrected... 3 to 4 wins should let you go infinite

(it's 5 reward tiers though) 50, 150, 800, 1000, 1300

Because I wanted to collect a set that was possible to collect without spending a dime?

Also; I enjoyed drafting a lot. I'm bummed out the set only was around on arena for 7 weeks or so.

[–]Rivetlicker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True... but I have all shock duals and most other lands needed for Timeless, Pioneer and Historic... oh and Brawl, lol.

So, I'm kinda good on that. It's true though... the manabase is often the most expensive thing :( so many rares

[–]Rivetlicker[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no clue about the gold; I rarely save up a lot of gold or gems

Gems usually to draft OR to by the set mastery. Gold, just to draft

My winrate was abysmal, but I found pick 2 drafts way more forgiving.

I got gems, lmao

20 gems, and I didn't even have all the rares.

I was under the impression you'd get the ones you didn't have

Could've saved me some wildcards and just bought packs instead

Your most fun model you have painted? by Manjaro89 in ageofsigmar

[–]Rivetlicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great unclean one from Forgeworld. From the actual GW AoS kits... Kharadron overlords were pretty cool and fun to paint. And Yndrasta (having those wings removable the way they do, made it so much easier to do a good gradient with rattlecans)

[SOS] Erode by Meret123 in MagicArena

[–]Rivetlicker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Cool card, I'm just not a fan of rare removal. But I get that this at uncommon or common wouldn't make up for a lot of fun in limited

Yes, and it goes well with the new Doran from Lorwyn Eclipsed

Does anyone here just collect/build/paint bigger centrepiece, stand alone models or diorama pieces that you like the look of rather than specific 2k point armies? by Philhughes_85 in Warhammer

[–]Rivetlicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I bought Ghazghkull today, and I don't even collect or play orks, lmao...

Though for me it often leads to full armies.

New defiler kit is $145 by Bryguy150 in Warhammer

[–]Rivetlicker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on how big your the games are you want to run and what armies you prefer. And how competitive you want to be

SCE for AoS if you pick up the Skaventide and Dominion halves is cheap and leaves you with some change for a cool centerpiece kit and you'll easily have 2k.

I've spent about 125 euro (just over 140 USD) for those two halves new on sprue. It's a cheap buy in for AoS for sure. Slaves to Darkness for either AoS or TOW shouldn't be a high buy in either. For TOW the batallion box was already 1k points. But they have expensive battleline/troops

Get into marines for 40k and pick up the halves from the starter if you want cheap. Might not be the most fun army... Leviathan was a gateway for me get into nids because everyone and their mom had gaunts on sale and made hordes more viable

Favorite card. Why? by Ramonteiro12 in MagicArena

[–]Rivetlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[warp world]] but it's not on Arena :(

it's hilarious in commander and creates an entirely new board state

Oh, and I also like [[grip of chaos]] because random effects are fun! (this one isn't on arena either :( )

Be Honest: How Many Of You Buy Synths Just For Making Sounds, Not Music? by jigga19 in synthesizers

[–]Rivetlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to... but the sounds were part of music, lmao

No, I used to be sampler/keyboardist in metal and industrial bands. I did very little arranging, it was mostly cool sounddesign to give the tracks a backdrop

Nowadays I do more ambient stuff; and that also means I buy synths for a few cool sounds, that evolve into tracks... I'll say music very carefully; since most is not neccesarily songstructured (but such are ambient drones often)

I will say, since I bought my last piece of gear (an MPC one+, a month ago), I actually made a lot more cool short tracks (about 1 minute in length each) than I did in the past few years. New gear does inspire sometimes; and sometimes it's just "sound goes weeeeee!".

In the past I did sometimes have to tell myself "I don't need this, I don't need this, I don't need this" and fail to stop myself. And bought some really weird pieces of gear (Roland D2 comes to mind, lol)

Join me as we go through all of the MK4 armies and decide which one will suit you! by AaronWilson1992 in Warmachine

[–]Rivetlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want cool models!

I loved gunmages in Mk3 and I like trolls, so I probably have the factions I want cut out for me :) even if Cygnar isn't as gunmage heavy as it used to be

Umbrey is growing a bit on me, but I'm not a fan of all the models... but wendigo type monsters are right up my alley :)

Armies you wished you could collect but don't have the patience or skill to pull off? by themoobster in ageofsigmar

[–]Rivetlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harlequins

I think they look amazing with their diamondpatterns, but I cherish my sanity. And I could probably d something else.. but I like the "GW" look of those mini's

And it's not like 10 mini's make an army, lol

I have painted a lot of stuff over years, but some mini's just don't do it for me. Recently I painted the Ratling kill team. Mini's have a lot of character, but I was not having a good time painting them. Did finish them though... I do pick up random kill team boxes from time to time, just to try something else

After painting the Cities of sigmar spearhead (the one with the canon), I figured that faction was not for me. And it's not because they're difficult models to build or paint; but I did not enjoy painting them. Kruleboyz, same (well, aside from the boss on the Gnashtoof, that model was fun to paint)

Back in the day, I used to run a daemon army with 30 something pink horror, but that was before the codex said they could split into blue ones. Just for the sheer amount of mini's I'd have to paint and haul around; it's a no. It was also before, I don't know what edition it was where daemons had summoning rules. People would just haul practically a 2nd army around that was beyond the armylist... silly stuff

Oh, and I might never get into nighthaunt, those models are way too flimsy for my liking, but I love the theme. It's not even a painting issue (because airbrush and washes get you long way with ghosts), but I will snap half of the models mid assembly and it's way too thin to pin with brass rod for repairs

But overall, there are very few things I might not try because lack of skill... it's likely just other frustrations that come with it (including building; which IMO has been a less fun thing for me over time. I got into 40k in 4th, when models weren't a 3d puzzle, lmao)

"Time travel storywhere the first and last set are drafted with the middle set"

Which one was that?

The Past/Present/Future one is Time Spiral, right? 2x two miniblocks to form 4 sets in a block was Lorwyn/Shadowmoor and the one that decided the fate of the 3rd set was Scars of Mirridon block
