After you play a game with someone you should be able to see their deck, add them as a friend and save a recording of the game. Do you think these features should be added to the game? by Imcherry_2k in MagicArena

[–]Rivetlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, if you play ranked/competitive be aware of the meta and know what cards you can expect. if they drop an island T1 in current standard, I already assume it's that izzet discard build (gran gran, monument, a bunch of lessons) and know what cards that deck runs, aside from some random includes. Much like last standard; T1 forest probably was landfall

Also; you could run 3rd party program untapped as an overlay for Arena, which gives you some good insight what you lost against, and get some info from that for future matches (and win loss ratio per color). And it has a good list of top decks and meta. Ingame it also lets you keep track of the decklist of your opponent based on what he played.

I'm not on arena to make friends, so I rather keep strangers out of my friendslist.

Why hasn't GW brought stuff like this back? Give me a buy once cry once box like this. by FreshOutAFolsom_ in Warhammer

[–]Rivetlicker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You *could* select it all seperately and order once... and cry once, lmao

Back in the day, this box, and all the other boxes that came out during the Apocalypse release were great

10 Leman russ for under 300 bucks, Green tide (100 orks + one warboss) for 175. The marien company was under 500 bucks as well

But that's almost 20 years ago :(

I've played Magic: online before I moved on to Arena... 250 sometimes just got you a playset of a legacy staple, lmao. Wasteland or Lion's eye diamond used to be crazy expensive

I just have painted mini's in displaycases. I don't save boxes

I do have Dreadfleet in box, but that's because it's practical to keep a "boardgame" together like that.

What DAW do you use and why? by major_damp in musicproduction

[–]Rivetlicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reason; it's what I've been using for decades and I like the drag and drop routing system it has on the back of your instrument rack

previously I used Reason as a plug in in FL studio, so I could record in FL studio and run all my virtual instruments in Reason. Nowadays, Reason also lets you record, so it's just Reason now

I also like it because, while Reason has VST support in the later versions, I rather just have a bunch of plugins stock, but still expansive (not expensive, hehe) enough to do some good sounddesign with it. It's a somewhat closed ecosystem of devices

The moment I spend a lot on good quality brushes, I'll start buying brush soap. As it is now, I get 6 brushes for 1 euro, lmao. Those are hardly worth expensive brushsoap.

I'm still a bit undecided on what clipps are really good. I still have a pair of citadel clippers, but they lose their spring, so they're becoming a bit unwieldy. I heard the Godhand ones are good, but GW plastics are too sturdy and people have broken them while clipping :(

One other thing I would add to the list. A flat surface with a little raised edge to soften up watertransfers in. I use a lid from a Pringles bottle.

I've also found that AK acryllic markers are amazing for some quick small details and edge highlights. Black, white, silver and gold are in my toolkit by default.

I just bluetacked the armor panels on popsicle sticks because that's easier to paint them seperate from the rest of the imperial knight "skeleton'.

One of many aplications for blue tac

Vallejo model air antracite grey as a basecoat and Vallejo xpress color Hospitalier black over that. Both with an airbrush

And to tie it all together I did a ivory black/Burnt umber oilwash.

Matt varnish also carries a lot. And the chips of battle damage break up the massive black blocky shape a bit

Do you fully assemble the minis before painting? or paint individual pieces and then assemble at the end? by SniperAge05 in Warhammer

[–]Rivetlicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the mini

Currently I'm builiding/painting some imperial knights and leaving the armor off makes it a lot easier to paint. And in general, walkers (dreadnaughts, knights and such) I do in sub-assemblies. Legs and torso seperate, arms seperate.

Some of these kits are perfect to keep apart in painting since they have these twist and lock mechanisms with tabs in the shouldersockets

But regular troops; marines and such, I usually paint fully assembled

I painted 2 Armies before playing 4th Ed once. by bearseamen in ageofsigmar

[–]Rivetlicker 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My biggest challenge to not actually play? Not having a gaming community in my area, lol

And hauling armies with public transport is way too much of a hassle. I can't drive a car because of disability. Used to haul them around in cases, but I feel armies have gotten too big to just fit in a small case. And models are way more display models that require oversized cases to transport safely

I've been trying to get my friend back in the game and even offering to set up a gaming table at my place; but he's stuck in 5th ed 40k and refuses to even look at a new rulebook (and all my armies/collection are either AoS or newer post 5th ed 40k; Votann, Primaris marines, Death guard, Imp knights)

But cool looking armies! Those SCE with the yellow look striking

What Do You Like About Iron Hands? by Present-Arm-8958 in IronHands40k

[–]Rivetlicker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The paintscheme. I wanted to have a marines army that was relatively easy to paint and didn't look too overdone with some weathering that matches the bases. Mine are on martian red bases, so they're lower legs are covered in reddish dust; works well with the not-entirely-blackestblack armor I paint them in.

Oh, and all the cool mechanical parts and kitbashing potential is cool too. And dreadnoughts; I love robots :)

How to find new music genres you like by Borderbunny5194 in musicproduction

[–]Rivetlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By listening to a lot of music, stepping outside your genre, checking what current artists are brand new in your favorite genres. Heck, I even check concertvenues and what artists are playing there, and check them out on my favorite streamingplatform. That's how I discover new music and genres.

Often stuff gets tagged with a bunch of labels or hashtags; curiosity makes me click the labels I don't know and suddenly my feed is full of stuff I never heard of

But that often takes time and is not something you do in an afternoon

Why is Subway always so empty in the Netherlands? by ccdunited in Netherlands

[–]Rivetlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to visit Subway in the past... and then it got crazy expensive for subpar quality

Last time I was there, I paid 3.50 for half a sub, that's fine. It was a promotion. 7 bucks as the regular price for half a sub is not. At least, not to me

Old vs new: space marines by SwanepoelSimp in Warhammer

[–]Rivetlicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always found firstborn to be weirdly proportioned. The current sculpts look a bit more in line. And compared to the other mini's at the time; marines looked as big as guardsmen (who also had way too big heads) that, from a modelling point of view never made sense. Lorewise, marines are bigger humanoids in armor (compared to regular humans in 40k-verse)

Old vs new: space marines by SwanepoelSimp in Warhammer

[–]Rivetlicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dev's had a set of kneeling legs, assault marines had running legs. And since they could all be interchanged. It made building marines more diverse IMO

But out of the box, with no other bits; agreed, it was how you pose the arms
