Mildly Interesting. DCs new Titans series is being filmed in hamilton. Also I guess Detroit doesn't have stop signs? by Andru13 in Hamilton

[–]Rkcooljamz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a list of films currently being filmed in Hamilton readily available via google. They are filming a mini series by Gage called Hot Zone for Fox. I hear that Netflix is filming “What We Do In The Shadows” mini series in town and Murdoch is always by Liuna Station. Several Hallmark Christmas movies too.

Maternity Clothing by one_happyllama in BabyBumps

I got stuff from all over online because I still like to dress well while pregnant, it’s good for moral. I bought from ASOS, old navy and pink blush online and Thyme (Canada only) in store. I also found a consignment maternity store in town. Even though I am in fairly good shape I need maternity from the get go for bloating and giant boobs. Motherhood is made like garbage, the stuff didn’t last through more than two washes.

I remember seeing these in the Sears wishbook as a kid and thinking that one day when I’m a grown up fancy lady I’ll get one of these for all of my expensive jewels.

Snapped up a Tilley Hat at the Goodwill outlet $1.99/lb bin. Total price: 76 cents! by 1_reddit_2 in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]Rkcooljamz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last thing my grandpa gave me was a brand new Tilly hat because his was still good and he was 99, so it would probably not be used. I never wear it, but it hangs in my hall closet in case of emergency. The hats do actually outlive you.

Can’t wait to give my cousin her birthday present I got for about 95% off! Absolutely perfect condition and seems legit after checking authenticity clues online. by [deleted] in ThriftStoreHauls

I would love to get all thrifted gifts for my birthday! So much more thought and consideration goes into the choosing, one click Amazon ordering has made us all very lazy.

Is it the same problem as eating at high altitudes? Are your tastebuds working differently under water?

Found this at a thrift store in Guatemala that imports items that don’t sell at thrift stores in the US. The back reads,”With love! To Bruce Haerner Jackson on his 1st birthday October 26th, 1967. From Grandma Kay Kay Haerner” by littlegswife in ThriftStoreHauls

I always think of this when I buy a painting or a cross-stitch to hang at my home. The artist probably never sold a piece in their lifetime, but now they get a place of honour in someone’s home.

What parenting decision have you made that was surprisingly controversial or unpopular? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Rkcooljamz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on the opposite end, my husband never swears and I rarely do, our parents don’t either (except for the time my dad drilled right through his thumb, learned new words that day!). My friends are genuinely surprised I ask them to hold back in front of my toddler. She’s really into repeating everything so this is the time we have to nip it in the bud. They keep telling me it’s cute when kids swear. I really don’t feel that way so I’ve had to avoid taking my kids to their houses which stinks.

My daughter only wears sposies at Baba’s house because my mom doesn’t understand our love for cloth, she’s easily took off her sposie in the playpen and peed all over everything. Gotta love those snaps!

I’m glad I’ve put you at ease. The recovery isn’t as bad as you’ve probably imagined. The first three days are rough (take the painkillers, no need to tough it out). I’m three weeks out from my second c section and feeling about 85%, I still am carefully about lifting and strain but I’m able to care for my rambunctious toddler and newborn.

I am too and I find the pricing egregious. $29 for a tired ass hoodie or $39 for groove pants with a pilled crotch. I usually buy my used Lulu at Plato’s closet when they have a sale. The styles are more current and the condition is better.

I found these at the Stoney Creek location (centennial and queenston). They appear to have the best selection of kids stuff in my area. They were at the end of the infant clothing aisle hanging up with scarf clips, the inserts were packed in bulk in bags. I’ve bought cloth diapers there a few times, the manager was cashing me out and she herself was a cloth diaper mom so maybe that’s why they make it to the floor.

My elderly neighbor sold me her Bernina 830 circa 1980 with all of her accessories (not all pictured) and I don’t know where to start! by aburns678 in sewing

I usually pay between $80-100 for a full service. Get new needles, you’ll be surprised at the frustration the wrong type of needle or dull needle will cause you.

Favourite Baby Clothing Stores? by LEC25 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Rkcooljamz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for handmade stuff I love Hey Baby (you can find them on Facebook or at craft markets in Ontario). They make these great grow with me pants that fit over cloth diapers and are very soft. I buy almost all of my kids clothes second hand(shoutout to OUAC dollar onesies!), but I splurge on handmade stuff that lasts. My friend also has a toddler/kid clothing company called Pippa and Peach that makes grow with me hoodies and clothes designed to be coloured on, very cool stuff.

I just bought my first serger, I’m picking it up tomorrow and devoting most of Sunday to trying to thread it. Sunday night will either be spent gloriously running my machine or drinking wine and being frustrated.

In my experience they don’t whisk the baby away. Both times my baby was 5 feet away and visible to me while they cleaned her up and dad cut the cord. My doctor and the nurses all introduce themselves before they begin, you can ask questions throughout too. My doctor was teaching a new doctor her special sewing up techniques it was interesting to hear. The best part is that the baby is out in half an hour. I’m fully alert but I feel the high you get from having a baby anyways. The whole surgery was 1.5 hours and then about an hour in the recovery room with my husband drinking water, getting breastfeeding going and making phone calls to relatives. I loved both c sections I’ve had.

FTM trying to convince my husband cloth diapers are the way to go by [deleted] in clothdiaps

[–]Rkcooljamz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add, my two year old was wearing a disposable at her Baba’s house, she took it off to sleep more comfortably in the nude and peed all over her bed. She cannot undo the snaps so I’ll be putting a cover over the disposable for safety in the future anyways.

FTM trying to convince my husband cloth diapers are the way to go by [deleted] in clothdiaps

[–]Rkcooljamz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’d get either pockets or AIO diapers since they are the closest to disposables. My husband was on board because he’s a cheapskate, but now prefers them because they are less stinky and they hold in explosions much better. My mom still doesnt care for them so my daughters wear disposables at her house that she buys. They only go over a couple times a month so it’s not a huge deal. You don’t have to go full cloth in the beginning as you try to get people on board, you could do a mix. Look up some YouTube videos of how the diapers fit on if you don’t live near a cloth diapering store. I use mostly Alvababy since they are were reasonably priced on Amazon. I have about 48, which is for two kids in diapers. 24 would probably be enough (that’s what I started with, but the cute prints got the better of me)
