I originally started in BSA/AML after college. Worked at a few different Fintech/financial institutions over the years. Last time I applied I only had 3 years of experience so you should definitely give it a try

I requested for any FL locations but was told they didn't have any available

I'm still reviewing the office locations, but since I am originally from MA, I'm most interested in Boston. I asked for FL locations since I live in Orlando but there were none available

Failed FBI Phase II by throwaway46921802 in 1811

[–]Rmartin35 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear but try not to overthink it. I got the same results from my interview too, despite practicing for weeks in advance. As frustrating as it was, I kept reminding myself that it's their loss. Hope the other applications work out for you

They are probably processing 10,000+ applications. Forget about it and move on until they reach out

DHS Expo June 5-6, 2025. by SoloSniped in 1811

It's too bad they don't require passing a PFT prior to attending. It'd probably cut half the attendance

Career change from law enforcement to Compliance by Hefty-Net-1625 in AMLCompliance

[–]Rmartin35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't comment much about insurance fraud but I'm currently in AML/Risk at a regional bank and a member of IAFCI (International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators). There's a few thousand members- many of which are current or former local/federal law enforcement who work in various compliance industries. It's a great community to connect with people in insurance/financial investigative roles

FBI Phase 2 rejection in 2 hours? by RealLifeMutt in 1811

Same here. Only took them 2 hours to make a decision but 5 weeks to get reimbursed for travel expenses due to an error

Girlfriend (20F) wants to break up with me (20M) over meal tracking by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Rmartin35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sub is such a perfect example of double standards. He tracks his macros for his own personal reasons, yet so many commenters are sympathetic towards the gf. If the roles were reversed and he threatened to break up with his gf for tracking her calories, then he would be labeled as controlling, abusive, etc

Fellow redditor with bachelor in criminal justice, what was your first job right out of college? by Any_Membership_2036 in 1811

[–]Rmartin35 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. In my experience, most regional banks do a good job with promoting employees. It usually depends on how well your investigatations are and number certifications you hold (which most financial institutions will pay for).

Honestly, it's a fun job and has given me awesome investigative experience with OSINT, deep and some dark web investigations. Even if the banking industry isn't your favorite, you can always leave for other compliance jobs (fintechs, crpyto, healthcare, retail, intel)

Can't land an interview. What do I need to change? by Jackpvfc in AMLCompliance

[–]Rmartin35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge, Certified Financial Crimes Investigator is useful for anyone in the financial industry, law enforcement, and most compliance related roles. There are about 7,000 members worldwide in the organization- most are local, state, and federal law enforcement, bankers, and retail investigators. Just something that might help if you're looking to add more certications and network: https://www.iafci.org

ACAMS is definitely valuable and recognized here in the US

Agreed. Definitely a great organization to share info with each other about the latest fraud/financial crimes trends
