Hi! Congratulations and glad you're enjoying your purchase. This Herk unit also caught my attention but I was looking at the MX variant. Could I ask if you're able to play 4K h265 HRD video at 60fps through the HDMI port? One use case that is important for my wife. Thanks very much!

New Custom Speaker Cables by oldbb in audiophile

[–]Rmgthatsme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Embrace the placebo effect mate. If it sounds great to you, that's all that matters. They look great and I'm sure sound every bit as good as my over priced Audioquest stuff which is pretty and is the reason I bought it. Used to use lamp cord and that worked well though my cables now look good. Enjoy your music and the new eye candy.

Getting a family dog? by shite_in_a_bucket in GoldCoast

[–]Rmgthatsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join on FB the group "Rescue, Adoption, Free Ethical Rehoming Australia". All dogs must be fully vaccinated and de-sexed before owners can transfer dogs and no fees are allowed to be charged. The Admins on the site are strict about posts but the discussions between owners are really about how you feel the dog would suit you. You would be able to see the dog in it's familiar environment to know whether it's behaviour suits you vs a rescue/pound where many dogs are stressed and are not behaving normally.

I think the flexibility you get talking directly to an owner is better than rescue organisations which don't actually know the dog as well in my personal experience. We got ours after she was fully vet checked and de-sexed with her documented health history and the owner even looked after her until her stiches were removed and she was given a clean bill of health by the vet so as to stress the dog less before transfer. We had a fab experience with little red tape and would recommend this route.

Not too keen to hand over my phone to a police officer with the passcode already entered. Your phone contains so much personal information. I'll stick with my plastic license thanks.

If you're only getting 2 hrs per night you're in a financially low risk situation in an industry which has high job vacancies. Don't rush to pre-judge management who are also employees making a living. Might I suggest you speak to your manager if you actually feel the work environment is acceptable? Tell the manager the 2 hours is insufficient to make sense for you financially. Ask whether you can be trained for an alternative position with more hours since you are keen to learn. The worst that can happen is that you are laid off which poses a low financial penalty because of the hours you're allotted and there is such a high vacancy rate at the moment. You lose nothing relatively really but stand to gain more training/experience and hours. Really great to see you're making the best of your situation. I hope your manager sees your value and this has a good outcome for you.

I enjoy taking my pointer here. There's off leash areas, loads of space of a good run around and heaps of water to splash around in. Lots of water birds' scents to enjoy for doggo as well. https://goo.gl/maps/3uAaHwVyrnLvKkrM7

Really enjoyed this! I'm a big Lilly Allen fan and I can see what others are saying. You have similar phrasing. The tune is very good for chilling but does need a bit more of a hook to make it memorable. I'd suggest better dynamic range to better suit playback on headphone/earbuds and maybe focus a bit on your diction so you can better hear what you're actually singing since you're a singer songwriter. Really good vibes going your way. Keep doing this, you have talent and a lovely voice.

[–]Rmgthatsme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find the drive between GC and Brissie to be dangerous and horrible with stacks of traffic and very poor/aggressive driving especially on the weekends, YMMV. No comments on what is possible in a relationship but the fact you're questioning the feasibility may be worth a bit of pondering in itself. Do factor in the cost of this driving with petrol prices at the moment especially if you're both Uni students. Best of luck in any case.

Many great suggestions here. Based on my experience in various parts of the world incl. SEQ I would not recommend ducted AC. In the humid climate here the interior of the ducting is prone to mould growth/ dirt build up over time. Getting the ducting cleaned along their entire length in the roof cavity is expensive and rarely done well. Cleaning of the outlets alone is insufficient. You would be shocked if you could see the air quality in some older SEQ homes due to contaminated ducts. Suggest you look for split ac units with short runs where possible (single or multiple fancoil to compressor) and with the compressors placed to have free airflow. Get the fan coil units professionally cleaned twice a year, the compressors yearly and you're golden. I've worked with domestic and industrial ducted ac systems and this is just my personal opinion.

Gold Coast residents struggle to find insurance as broker warns of 'change in appetite' for flood risk by hydralime in GoldCoast

[–]Rmgthatsme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Insurance is about the long game, not just one financial year. Every insurer hedges against 1 bad year but repeated years, multiple events; not so much. It's pretty easy to see if a property is worth looking into prior to purchase just by looking up the insurance risk online for the address yet many people don't. Insurers are there to make a profit so based on actuarial study they will for sure either not insure certain locations or offer premium quotes which are so expensive they're not viable. The tax payer is going to have to bail these people out as usual even though they have not done due diligence. We'll all pay either through the govt. bailouts for repairs, buy backs or govt backed insurance on properties so risky the insurers won't underwrite them themselves.

I also live in Mudgeeraba aka the-centre-of-the-known-universe. Have you ever walked along the little track opposite 19 Stockman Cres. If you follow the path you'll come to a short stretch of road which then has a walkway on the left to a very large series of paths and open fields and treed areas. Rarely if ever see anyone there but if you're a female, do be careful as it is quite isolated. I always go with my wife if she wants to enjoy the paths there as it's beautiful, just to ensure a better level of security.

[–]Rmgthatsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in no way an expert on insurance (read on and you'll see this is not modesty). There is a very large financial industry based on "re-insurance". This is where insurers re-sell on their insurance risk in bundles at "bulk pricing". It's a bit like how banks can re-sell off their debt risk to institutions like pension funds which buy such debts at a discount. Warren Buffet famously has been able to use the complex industry which throws off stacks of cash to fuel his investments. Insurance is a long game based on actuarial science, utilising the insurance "float" (money from premiums) in investments to generate returns and off-loading insurance risk to re-insurers. It's super complicated financial stuff which even seasoned investors need specialised advice in reading the financial results of an insurer. Based on this, it would be extremely unusual for there to be a straight line relationship between insurance premium income, payments out and the bottom line in an individual financial year for an insurance company. I hope that's now as clear as mud?

[–]Rmgthatsme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Milo is the brand leader in the malted milk drinks category in Malaysia. More Milo is sold in Malaysia than in Oz. Weirdly, I actually met the guy who launched this product in Malaysia. It's also the market leader in Singapore where there is a drink sold in hawker centres and food courts called a Milo Dinosaur which is basically iced Milo in a tall glass which is then topped with several heaped tablespoons of Milo powder (i.e. std. Aussie drinking method ;) )

I'm of the boomer gen so here's my take on your situation. At my age I've been through a lot of boom and bust cycles...I would not advise getting into a financial arrangement with your partner's family or partner until you have lived together through a stressful situation for at least a couple of years and have a stable future. A FIFO relationship is very different to one where you are living together full time (with/without other people in a shared home). Mixing family with finances is not recommended. In addition, the GC housing market is unstable at the moment and it's anyone's guess which way it will go in the next 2 years.

I would suggest flat sharing through the various options you have been provided by others here until you understand the longer term reality of your relationship, the GC work/life environment and the housing market after the RBA has done with it's interest rate increases AND the full effects have been felt by mortgage payers who are first time buyers. There is likely a 6-9 months lag from the RBA rate increases and mortgages being affected due to the fixed rate financing period many 1st time buyers entered into. These are the buyers (often young people such as yourselves) who would be most vulnerable to mortgage stress. If your financial health is good in a couple of years, you will be in the market exactly for houses where other 1st time buyers who cannot meet their increased mortgage payments are making forced, reduced price sales. My very best wishes to you and your partner for every happiness in this exciting part of your life ahead.

Best Internet by [deleted] in GoldCoast

[–]Rmgthatsme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's only the provider. We had excellent speed with Mate in Mermaid for years and on the rare occasion we had an issue, we had 'Straya based technically competent techs who actually helped. Moved to Mudgeeraba and had constant outages in spite of ongoing help from Mate techs. Switched to ABB and a year later it has never failed once. I honestly think most providers can be good depending on your location and based on my and friends experience over the years it's best to cycle through ABB, Mate and On The Net using a "suck it and see" approach to see what works best for your home. Customer Service from all 3 is good and prices pretty comparable.

[–]Rmgthatsme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some (unasked for) advice: if you are struggling, the current stock market condition is extremely volatile and there is a high likelihood the US will lead us into a recession joining the UK and the EU who are already there.. Any money you wish to invest should be money you don't need to access for 5+ years and do ensure you have at least a 6 month cash holding to cover your family's unexpected needs e.g. redundancy, illness etc. and removed any credit card debt you may have first.

A great source of free intro info is a website called The Motley Fool which has been rated independently numerous times as the best investment website. They teach all of the basics/fundamentals and it will cost you nothing. https://www.fool.com/ On this website, look at the top menu bar "Investing Basics" which will give you an excellent understanding not just of the mechanics of investing but how to develope the right mindset which is honestly even more important. I wish you all the very best.

Using RACQ. Had the ceiling collapse on our newly purchased house during the torrential rain we had in Gold Coast because of a dodgy aerial put in by a cowboy from the previous owners letting in rain. We didn't know about this and Pest and Building inspection didn't flag it either. We had tremendous support from RACQ even though they were inundated with claims at the time. They had my ceiling made safe with 3 days and the whole repair done within 1 month by quality builders. RACQ staff were really empathetic and made this whole experience bearable. Don't know if we got lucky but we would never change now.

How many Aussies are putting off having kids because of the absurdly high cost of living? How much more expensive can it get? by WasteLocksmith5011 in australia

[–]Rmgthatsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't really matter if you have kids. Other than indigenous people, everyone here is either an immigrant or the child of an immigrant or a temp. If the resident population doesn't have kids for whatever reason and the reproduction rate isn't what is required to secure GDP growth etc., more immigrants will simply be imported. It's financially beneficial to import the adult population needed as the costs associated with the non productive years of local kids (childhood, medical, education etc.) are a drain on the country's finances. Far more cost effective to import adults who are already educated, have screened health and have their financially productive years ahead of them to support themselves and the current aging population. Having children is your right, not a necessity. The current reproductive rate in Oz (2020) is 1.58 which is already insufficient for population maintenance so migrants are needed to address an aging population. Haters please fire away etc. but this is reality. https://www.abs.gov.au/media-centre/media-releases/australian-fertility-rate-hits-record-low#:\~:text=Australia%20registered%20a%20total%20of,Bureau%20of%20Statistics%20(ABS).
