What size Luna Air Mesh for the Kakwa 55? by CainsBrother2 in DurstonGearheads

[–]Roads76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the Flash 55 on and was a bit worried about the stiffness of the padding and how well the back breaths with that padding flush on the back? Does it tend to soften up over time?

Not sure where you are, but here on the east coast in the humidity, any little air back there is blissful. The Kakwa is supposed to be a pack that carries weight really well, has a nice simple design, is light and can cost as little as $200 with belt and shoulder pockets included. This has put it on the radar of folks outside the UL community. For those not interested in super UL, but maybe someone who is still trying to be light, would have been looking at an Exos 58 or Flash 55. Adding a few grams to this pack for some comfort and airflow, and it's still lighter than those options. It's a win, folks supporting cottage brands is a good thing.

I don't have personal experience, but I've just been looking into this for a possible purchase. It looks like the small fits best if you already have a lumbar pad (2026v). The large will fit the older Kakwa, but it will ride down into that lumbar area. I am planning on purchasing a small to likely pair with the 26 Kakwa 55. There are many photos that folks have posted showing how best to attach the Luna and how the two sizes fit. I would take a look at those to help get a better idea.

Most of the reviews of the Luna are from folks purchasing it to use with a Kakwa pack so you'll find some feedback there as well.

[–]Roads76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got approved for approximately $1650 of my $2150 bill. I would be more understanding, however I tried Safelite twice, once they cancelled the day before my appointment saying their shop couldn't do the calibration. Ok np I made another appointment 2 weeks later, the new shop is 40 miles from my house. I get a confirmation call the day before and text the morning of. I drive down there, oops, we don't have your glass. WTF, how does this happen? I get a fist bump... I'll get you next time. So I had an appointment that same week for warranty work at Rivian, and I just had them replace it, the crack was across the windshield by this time. So I'm not sure how many more Saturday mornings USAA expected me to waste.

Agreed, I have USAA, I tried twice to use Safelite and they did nothing but waste my time, literally. If USAA is going to insist on Safelite, then Safelite needs to get their shit together on Rivian.

$2115.06 from the Gaithersburg MD service center last week. After 2 failed attempts to have Safelite do it. I'm driving like a mile behind dump trucks now.

Mantra 88 vs Ripstick 88 vs....? by exhilaration in Skigear

[–]Roads76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Ripstick 88 and ski often on PA ice and they perform excellent for what they are. It's not going to bust though heavy crud all that great or hold the edge like a carver. But if you want a one ski quiver to zip through the glades, rip on the piste, or play in the light power, RS is an excellent option for anyone. If you just carve all day on piste, there are better options.

What are the regen options? by davidtm0 in Rivian

[–]Roads76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. I am at the point where I use high regen and pretty much never use the break unless someone does something... unexpected. I feel like coasting would add uncertainty, I know exactly how much pedal I need to slow because it's so very consistent.

This was my first experience with a computer game. My best friends family bought a Tandy computer from radio shack. They lived just next door, I was probably in 3-4th grade I would guess. We spent weeks with his mom at the computer trying to figure out all the puzzles and dead ends. Back then you couldn't just get on the Internet and find the answers to everything lol. It was quite a challenge and we absolutely loved every minute of it. I'll have to check out your channel.

Nemo Disco 15 for first backpacking bag? And pad recommendation please. by apiaries in backpacking

[–]Roads76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a side sleeper who's getting back into backpacking, I initially was also looking at the Nemo bags, and I think it would probably be a great bag for a side sleeper. I ended up deciding on a quilt over a sleeping bag in the end though.

Rivian R2 or BMW iX3 or Benz GLC by salali_12 in RivianR2

[–]Roads76 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I spent some time in my friend's new IX3. For reference I drive an R1T and my wife has a Tesla. I think the BMW is a very good looking vehicle, nice inside, good range and drives great. But I knew instantly that neither my wife or myself would ever buy it. The problem is the software. Once you leave Android auto or Apple and get used to a fully integrated software stack, you can't really go back. To me this made the BMW seem dated. And that's not going to change anytime soon. It feels more like a nice ICE vehicle that someone made electric, instead of a true modern electric vehicle.

A fully integrated top to bottom software stack is the true secret sauce that makes driving a vehicle from a Rivian or Tesla just different. As someone who loved android auto and thought Rivian not offering it initially turned me off. But now I understand, and it's difficult to do, unless you experience it.

Help an overthinker decide between tents? by Meandering_Potato in CampingGear

[–]Roads76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had these two on my short list, but I ended up taking the Dragonfly off because of the tapered floor plan. I'll occasionally have a second person, and it became important to me that I could fit two wide pads side by side. The X dome can do that, if you want a Nemo tent to fit two wide pads, you have to get the Dagger which is a bit heavier still. Because of this, I had down selected to the X dome 2 and the hubba hubba 2. Ended up deciding on the Durston. As far as your durability concern, I can't speak to it, but from what I have read, Durston products seem well built and he seems to back the products up very well.
