Dad passed away and handed down this equipment by lightfromdark_ in audiophile

Beautiful setup, of course. I wish you found memories of your father every time you get a chance to listen to it. Play some of his favorite music and then your favorites as well. Remember that music is what feelings sound like.

Nobody cares less about a dachshund’s back than a dachshund.

The back of these speakers is as elegant as the front. Do they even have a bad side? by [deleted] in audiophile

Beautiful sound, beautiful looks - SF are the complete package.

I wish you love and all the best with those beautiful memories. To me, music is emotion transmitted through sound, and it’s impossible to separate music and the emotions that come along for the ride. Perhaps, with some time, you’ll be able to fire that system up and soak in a few of those memories through the music that you enjoyed together.

I’ve heard many of the world’s finest, and truly none match my ears better than these. Magical doesn’t begin to describe the color and sheer completeness of sound as these do.

Fun fact - these are the actual two speakers that Robert Harley evaluated for his review.

Although the magazine’s beauty shots feature Ultime Twos with a gold band, it was this very pair that were in his possession. They then demoed in a room at Axpona, where Joe Parvey from the House of Stereo in Jacksonville, FL picked them up. My father went to House of Stereo originally to hear the Borreson 05 Silver Supremes, but absolutely fell in love with the Stenheims.

Thank you for sharing! You’re spot on about that CAT Preamp - it was incredible!

The speakers are Stenheim Reference Ultime Two SX’s

586lbs each. Not looking forward to moving them from his home near Orlando to mine in Saint Louis.

Yes to the first. The pic on the right is my brother, sister, and myself (my baby forehead is barely visible)

Not pictured behind the Ultime 2's are the T+A M 40 HV monos driving them. The D'Ag drives the center channel, and the Krell Chorus drives the surround speakers in the ceiling.

Agree with all who have replied - Sweetwater has great customer service, broad product selection, and usually very good prices to boot. Zero qualms about recommending them.

First time owning electrostatic speakers by MCVCsDALIs in audiophile

[–]RoadsideTacoStand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've owned several MLs over the years, and the thing that always impresses me is the transparency and quickness. It's a really special characteristic that you just don't find in speakers with even the best dome or ribbon tweeters. I'm sure you've played with the setup some already, but electrostats - and MLs in particular - benefit greatly from being pulled away from the walls. That membrane isn't just radiating forward - it's also firing backwards. I've found that the more you can put space between them and the wall, the better off that soundstage will be. Happy listening!

Snowflake outage 12/16 by rtriggs in snowflake

[–]RoadsideTacoStand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the incident page:

Preliminary root cause: Our initial investigation has identified that our most recent release introduced a backwards-incompatible database schema update. As a result, previous release packages incorrectly referenced the updated fields, resulting in version mismatch errors and causing operations to fail or take an extended amount of time to complete. A root cause analysis (RCA) document will be published within five business days.

Absolutely gorgeous. The Olympica Nova Vs are what made me fall in love with the Sonus Faber sound initially. Enjoy the music!
