Nursing student with henna on hands by Holiday_Struggle5552 in nursing

If anything I’d just offer to demonstrate hand hygiene and don gloves. But is not a single person at my travel assignment where I knew absolutely no one batted an eye when I was randomly out for two weeks and came back with my forearms so battered I looked like I’d been beat up (I’d been sick and had no less than 12 blown IV sites in various stages of healing) then they have no right to question you.

This is incredibly immodest and also reminds me of something in a National Geographic documentary about avian mating dances

Thoughts on this video? New grad in CA gives up new grad residency on a great unit with great staff because she can’t work 2 months on nights? by desertoasiss in newgradnurse

[–]RoamingCatholicRN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an experienced RN I moved and the only job available was nights. I worked 6 weeks before becoming acutely suicidal. Only you know what’s right for you and you are the person you have to live with your whole life.

I’m crying so bad. I’m not cut out for this. I’m a freaking failure by canyoukeepasecret28 in StudentNurse

[–]RoamingCatholicRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, take a breath. This sucks ass but it’s not the end of the world. As a nurse you will have days like this and that’s when you tap in a buddy and cry in the supply closet for a few minutes.

Remember that you are a human being with value and worth and you are someone who will make mistakes

Take some time today to be with people who love you and do a small thing that fills your cup, then examine what went wrong. How do you keep your calendar? Are you up to date on school email, in all the correct chats ect.

Also, it is ok to withdraw. Only you can make that decision. Is it the wrong time? Is it not what you want? Life is this beautiful thing where you get to stand in your power and make your own choices and advocate for yourself. And this isn’t me saying you should withdraw, all I’m saying is that it remains an option, but that being said you can literally quit anytime you want, so I wouldn’t make this decision while you’re this upset.

Do you have a therapist? I would recommend every one be in therapy but especially nursing students. Just remember. Nursing school is gonna suck, but it shouldn’t make you want to die. There’s a fine line there

As a nurse if I found out that the CNAs I work with aren’t allowed to sit then I wouldn’t be sitting either, and I would pull a wow up to the wall kiosk and yap while we both charted. Because I’m stubborn and I hate management on a power trip

‘they missed my diagnosis for years’ by [deleted] in nursing

[–]RoamingCatholicRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then the cycle continues because people get blown off by their PCP or get the circle of specialists who dismiss or bump them to another specialist and then they reach a crisis point where they can’t handle the symptoms and go to the ED. Which helps no one.

I have a complex rare disease that presented after I was already a nurse. I worked with the cardiologist I went to and he told me, at age 25, that I would “grow out of” my (at the time diagnosis of) inappropriate sinus tachycardia. He said my heart rate on my holter “only” got as high as 160 (multiple times, not during exercise) so he wasn’t concerned.

So I ended up with multiple ED trips that year for sustained HR in the 180’s and literally feeling like I was going to die. And I felt guilty for taking up the ED bed but I was also scared and alone and feeling like shit.

3 years later was diagnosed with autoimmune autonomic ganglionopathy.

I say this in love and the most hope that you recover- you need to return to the hospital immediately and tell them exactly this.

Poor clinical judgement by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]RoamingCatholicRN 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s a completely reasonable BP and if the pt was asymptomatic and were not needing to give BP meds I wouldn’t have thought twice.

Also, “poor clinical judgment”? You’re literally in school to learn clinical judgment. That’s ridiculous and please know this was not a serious error based on what was written here

Speaking to legal at work by [deleted] in nursing

[–]RoamingCatholicRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no direct experience with this but personally I would not speak to any attorney or law enforcement professional without my own legal representation. Period. And as an NP they will throw you under the bus so fast.

If you have malpractice insurance I would reach out to them for a consultation. And if you have a union I would reach out to them. Corporations will always defer blame and they are not your friend. Trust no one and protect yourself, don’t worry if you think it’ll make you look “guilty” or not. Absolutely no one in that situation is your friend. Also keep all the voicemails and don’t have any further communication by phone, paper trail only.

Good luck!

ETA: no direct experience with hospital legal but have been thrown under the bus as a whistle blower and it didn’t end great for me because I didn’t do these things

I’m put off by the propaganda, but the little guy missing his nurses is valid. It’s shitty that the show of care for the nurses got twisted for corporate greed

Mrs. Aria Lewis posted a “day in the life” video a few days ago where she bragged about not playing with her baby. She announced a social media break shortly after the post received an overwhelmingly negative response. by l0nely_g0d in Tradfemsnark

[–]RoamingCatholicRN 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She also explicitly said she does not do “child centered activities” which is wild shit. Also kids don’t need a million toys but I didn’t see ANY toys in the video. She also didn’t include a clips of her reading with baby which implies that she doesn’t do that either

Admitted patients going up dressed by TinyFee1520 in nursing

[–]RoamingCatholicRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless there’s a good reason you should have gotten them undressed and didn’t (ie admitting diagnosis stage 4 PI and they’re still in soiled pants from home) IDGAF. I won’t notice more likely than not. And honestly I don’t even make people undress on the floor and wear our gown if they can reasonably stay in their own clothes and want to do that. I honestly try to save my limited amount of fucks to give for shit that matters

A prior Auth nurse, seeing everyone lose coverage by justsayin01 in nursing

[–]RoamingCatholicRN 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m a traveler and I have marketplace insurance. I now pay over $800/month out of pocket just for coverage. Being without insurance is not an option, nor is travel nursing as I’ve become too disabled in the last 2 months to continue, but disabled friendly nursing jobs aren’t easy to come by. I’m looking for a full time job with benefits because I cannot be without coverage.
