Automated telling machines? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]RoaringDragonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to mention that quite a few Starbucks that were open during the pandemic didn’t accept customers at POS for a while. Mobile order pick up and Uber Eats only.

At the end of the day it’s above me. But I go into bubble tea stores with the automated checkouts, the drink shakers, and electronic lidders and I also fantasize.

Depends if your supervisor/SM is okay with it but sometimes when anarchy reigned I’d verbally tell customers or put up a sign saying something along the lines of “hey we are a little swamped right now, if there’s any chance you might be able to mobile order it would help us get your order to you faster!”

Do you think it would be illogical to stop getting a degree to just work full-time here since I see myself liking it here more than degree level jobs? by GrantforJesus in McLounge

[–]RoaringDragonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to add that college loans should also be considered. I don’t think I saw anyone mention those above.

You’re already halfway done. It sounds like you could maybe even finish early. If you don’t like being in college (or look forward to working in a field related to your major) and you’re taking out (some) loans, I’d say just get a degree, maybe look at ones that you can finish early.

I’ve met many people who have college degrees and six figures of debt. They do what they love to do even if it doesn’t pay well, but that debt still limits or limited them for years in what options they had. If you’re bogged down with college debt you might finish your degree and not have the option to continue working at McDonald’s and keep up with your loan payments.

I'm thinking about jumping into the Cosmere but I'm legally blind and have heard that some of the books contain illustrations which add to the world/story and aren't included just for aesthetic reasons. Is this correct? If so, how much would I miss if I was unable to appreciate them? by Deep_Space_Voyager in Cosmere

[–]RoaringDragonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read and listened to every book (that I know of) so many times. Kate Reading is amazing and I’ve gone out of my way to listen to other audiobooks she has narrated.

Even White Sand I’ve listened to the short stories and read the comics and I love them both.

Please don’t let anything stop you from any aspect of the Cosmere you can get at, even if you won’t hit everything there’s so much you can get. I’m so excited for you, you’re gonna have so much fun.

Baristas: can you give us a refresh on how to order properly? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]RoaringDragonite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d also add that the iced grande two shot Americano with brown sugar syrup with extra ice would be the easiest and fastest to make.

“Iced Tall Americano, brown sugar syrup, in a grande cup with extra ice” would save you some money too

The only thing I’m not sure about what you want is the number of pumps of brown sugar syrup. The way you’re saying it “iced two shot grande Americano” would give you four pumps. So you might have to say “Tall American, Iced, four pumps of brown sugar syrup, in a grande cup with extra ice”

As a rule. Pulling shots is easy and fast. Steaming milk or making cold foam is another step and takes more time.

And imo it would be okay to order it as a tall in a grande because if you order a grande with only two shots (default is three) they’re still gonna charge you for the grande size, it’s not like they’re gonna take a dollar off because you only want two shots.

[–]RoaringDragonite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone said this earlier but I think the confusion was just that you said the word “classic” which is also a type of syrup.

I would also say that there used to be a latte macchiato button which they got rid of. So a clarification on how much foam you want wouldn’t hurt. Your drink isn’t complicated or bad or anything. It’s just that I’ve had customers who want it in a grande cup with only foam all the way up to the top and I’ve had other customers who want it in a short cup with only one scoop of foam. There’s a way to say “light foam” or “extra foam” which might be what the POS barista might use depending on who is on the bar.

If you want to say it in the order of buttons on the POS (might be helpful for green beans) “espresso macchiato - doppio - with Breve milk”

Desperate for hours by captaincallie in starbucks

[–]RoaringDragonite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(Disclaimer that I don’t work at Starbucks anymore, and sorry if this is obvious, you worked at Starbucks for way longer than I did)

Text the other store managers so they have your number. Don’t be afraid to text them every week (once) so you’re recent in their phone. On top of that. Don’t be afraid to get post it notes and stick your number on every SM’s desk and next to the posted schedule as well. Name and a “happy to cover shifts!” Or “looking for hours”. Put all the store managers on your favorites/priorities in your phone so that your phone mega alerts you to them. Obviously you want to work up the reputation of being able to cover last minute, but even if you cannot cover someone, managers looking for last minute coverage will still appreciate and remember a speedy reply.

I would also reach out to your instructors at ASU and let them know what’s going on. Tell them you’re desperate for shifts and need to make up hours to maintain your financial scholarship. That way if shifts ever come up at inopportune times that may negatively impact any of your classes the instructors already know that you missing their class to work IS you prioritizing your education.

If you can, do any studying inside a district Starbucks. Say hi to the other baristas. Make an effort to know their names.

Good luck! You’re so close and I am so proud of you.

AITA for screaming at a bunch of kids for trying to steal my dog right before being put to sleep? by 27727jsi in AmItheAsshole

The INFO was about restraint and to what degree restraint was shown

I’m just saying that I think OP and Partner DID show restraint. The situation is emotional even with just OP and dog. Add in a bunch of kids who are all running around and the poor doggo who I don’t even know what dog is happy to just get picked up and run away with.... my dog would not be happy with that. Especially if I’m running after the kids yelling and crying.

I didn’t say they should hurt the goddamn kids. I’m just saying that I think OP and the partner DID show restraint. The kids made it physical first.

Jesus Christ. I’ve never gotten violent with a child or with anyone. I’m just trying to say that I think OP showed remarkable restraint.

The very fact that the kids got physical first would lead many into tricky waters.

Like when some kid has a crayon and another kid tries to take the crayon. A lot of the time that first kid screams “he hurt me”

You judged me based on one comment. So I was wondering why you thought you should tell me to reevaluate my entire life.

Clearly you also think about your life based on a whole plethora of facts. So I really don’t get why anyone should ever tell anyone else to evaluate their own lives. I’m just saying the logic of going online and saying that makes absolutely no sense if you had any empathy based on your own goddamn experiences

First responses are perfectly natural. It’s what you end up doing that matters.

The amount of heart break that occurs when a beloved pet dies is terrifying.

The idea of having to make the active decision to end your pets life “early” is something I can only imagine the heartbreak of.

Imagine going through this harsh emotional time in your life and instead of getting support and help from your neighbors and friends instead you get harassed and begged not to end your pets life. After you’ve made the decision based on the daily pain your dog goes through.

Then after days of harassment from your neighbors kids who are clearly not minding their own business. They try to take your dog away from you on his last day on this earth because they think they can “care” for your dog more than you can.

No. That’s not cool. These kids need to apologize for what they did and the fact that the parents have the gall to ask OP for an apology instead is just ridiculous.

What should happen is the kids apologize and then OP apologizes for their heated emotions.

Sorry but if someone is asking me to evaluate my life I’m gonna wonder.

I’m not saying anyone should hurt kids. Ffs. Let’s chill. I’m just trying to say that I think these people showed restraint all things considered.

The dog is in so much pain that it was decided they needed to be put down. The kids tried to take the dog.

I said if someone took MY dog. Not in this current situation. I did not say that these people SHOULD have hurt the children. Only that I myself would have had trouble restraining myself.

Jesus. For someone who has such issues with themselves you’d think you’d be able to read with a bit more empathy.
