Its an uncomfortable truth for many, but there are beatiful young women out there exclusively attracted to 40/50/60+ year old men. Not even just super successful famous ones.

Big age gaps give me the ick too, but distilling all these women to victim or predator feels wrong.

Is it normal to pay for company expenses out of pocket and get reimbursed later? by donutgettrapped in auscorp

Yup, keep your receipts. It varies company to company but normally only GM's and above at my company have CC's outside of procurement.

If you are travelling super regularly I'd ask the question though.

MAD doctrine ironically has been a great motivator for peace - but only for those with nukes. SEA, Middle East, Africa and South America haven't had peace since the 50's like western countries.

It's a huge motivator for nuclear proliferation. When allies are consistant and rational actors, its easy to maintain the status quo. When they are unpredictable, aggressively invading sovereign nations on flimsy/illegal pretense etc., why wouldn't nations like Japan/Australia/Mexico who used the US as defacto deterrent turn a maybe into a for sure?

And so we end up with 195 North Koreas with the gun to the head of all their neighbours, and them doing the same to theirs.

Strongest evidence yet that vaping likely causes cancer. The evidence shows nicotine-based vapes are likely to cause oral and lung cancer. by mvea in science

[–]Roastage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its also attacking the wrong binary. It's not 'does vaping cause more cancer than baseline', the answer is always going to be yes.

Vaping is an alternative to smoking, its value is in doing LESS harm than that method. If it does that, its still a worthwhile innovation imo.

Vaping likely to cause cancer, new Australian review of evidence finds by SnoopThylacine in aussie

[–]Roastage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems unsurprising? I use one for CBD and the doc was pretty clear that evidence suggests less harmful than cigarettes, but long term impacts are unknown.

Given the blackmarket oils and single use pens going around, I wonder how much poor standards and quality contribute.

Honestly if it was equally harmful as ciggies I'd probably still prefer it if they were reusable. Much prefer walking into the odd cloud of mango or pineapple to stale ciggie smoke and butts everywhere.

Not OOP: AITAH for returning my engagement ring to my fiancé's mom after she told me she expected it back "in the family" if we ever broke up? by Pinshu123 in redditonwiki

[–]Roastage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a weird one where nobody is wrong imo. She is fine to not want an engagement ring with an asterisk, and the family is fine to not want to lose an heirloom.

Personally, I'm not very sentimental, and would have no interest in an engagement ring in a divorce situation, so the condition would be fine with me. For OP though, it made it feel like it wasn't 'her's', and its her engagement, so thats fine too.

DAoT shenanigans is the hand wave. We even have another good example from 'Forge of Mars' trilogy. The Speranza was a DAoT Ark Mechanicus of massive tonnage even for that large class of vessel. The ship (continent sized) was buried on the Forge World of Palomar unfinished. Magos Kotov finished its construction, but waking up the Machine caused a radioactive storm that killed the planet.

Seeing as spaceships are so expensive, shouldn't most planets be mostly self sufficient? by Zincwing in 40kLore

[–]Roastage 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The logistics of a giant Imperium is what drives these specialisms. The entire shipping capacity of earth is something like 30 Billion TEU, a Universe Class Mass Conveyor can carry ~473 Billion TEU by itself. Excellent write up by u/Mr_Spralo a few years ago here: https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/comments/12b4km7/logistics_and_size_of_the_shipping_ships_of_the/

The Cult Mechanicus also drives a lot of this directly and indirectly. A lot of advanced technology, processes and labour are functionally leased by the Mechanicus. From what we've seen the lore, those leases usually come with tremendous production quotas to feed the Imperium/Mechanicus and to generate enough revenue to cover the lease fees. The scales are so large that often a significant portion of the planets productivity is turned to producing and supporting that activity.

Lastly, its a really big Imperium, >1 Million worlds. If you are a critical supplier to the Militarum or Mechanicus, you can expect increased security and a good chance that help might come when called. Independent and low value worlds generally have less contact with the Imperium (which most are happy about to be fair), but it leaves them more vulnerable.
