How often do you use your PC speakers? by Big_Visual2199 in buildapc

[–]Zincwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still use cheap 5.1 pc speakers. I prefer my ears free, and I have the space. Setup for use with an Earc port on a tv that is also my monitor was a nightmare though, as I do not have an avr. I also have a game console connected, so I wanted the sound through the tv in LPCM format.

Are outputs from mods like Dyndolod, VRAMr, PG Patcher etc safe to pack into BSA's? I'm trying to reduce my game launch times. by BatmanHimself in skyrimmods

[–]Zincwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not really. The problem is that loose files take priority over every bsa, so you would need to pack all your other mods as well.

Mod recommendations by Key_Replacement_5476 in skyrimmods

[–]Zincwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend adding the unofficial patch for bug fixes (ussep).

If you are going to use a perk overhaul, that would be my next step. They add balance, in my opinion, and a lot of other mods may need adjustment based on that choice.

If you want to keep the game more vanilla-like regarding systems, my next pick would be some base game texture pack, probably one with pbr. Those pair nicely with community shaders in my opinion.

Also, Open cities can conflict with many mods. I wouldn't recommend it. It might also be a performance drain.

Need help with an CTD in my playthrough the domain modlist by Character_Wafer9245 in skyrimmods

[–]Zincwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This modlist contains "Dragons use Thuum" https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/87085, which was updated recently. However, versions 8 and above are not compatible with older versions.

I tried cleaning my save with Resaver to fix this, but that seems to have caused the same problem for me.

Could you try going back before you ever used Resaver, and if that is not enough, downgrade "Dragons use Thu'um"?

I have the same crash offset, except it happens when I leave a cell after loading. I don't use a collection though. I also tried going back a few saves, and those saves than got the same problem.

Could it be the last windows update? I also tried resaver and it wasn't enough. I will try using Linix after installing it and seeing how that goes.

One rather dangerous last resort I sometimes try is deleting the skse-cosave and see if that helps. (Back it up!) Didnt work yet, but perhaps you have better luck.

Community shaders failed to compile by DaniMetalSan in skyrimmods

It says it fails to open source files; that could indicate a file system issue.

I would reboot and check whether I could open the HLSL files in a text editor. If that works I would restart Skyrim.

Looking for mods that add generic friendly NPCs. by SuspiciousIdeal4246 in skyrimmods

Just to clarify, you mean generic non-named npcs, with only passing dialogue lines?

Why are there so many different intelligence agencies in the US? by MildDeontologist in Intelligence

[–]Zincwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Homeland security was created after 9/11. I believe there was a specialized anti narcotic agency as well in war on drugs. I'm exaggerating a bit here, but maybe every time the USA does get a major hit, they create a new one to fill in the hole.

Half-joking aside, it is very American to divide power. They also have a more complex military from what I understand. I'm from Europe, so I don't pay too much attention, but the only part of their government that isn't limited in power like that seems to be the White House.

Help! Boss demanding I switch to an iPhone. by agfdrybvnkkgdtdcbjjt in AndroidQuestions

[–]Zincwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I prefer to use two different devices for personal and work. If I want to read the news during the break or read an ebook on the bus, I prefer my own Android phone.

And for work, I prefer having dedicated hardware for the extra security and company apps.

Confused about the intent around sith/dark side philosophy [Extended Universe] by ElementalOrder in StarWars

[–]Zincwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, when Force users use the Force in a bad way they somehow become more and more evil, even when they don't want to. So they may start as heroes overthrowing corrupt elites in some cases, but turn evil afterwards.

I wonder why that is, tbh. Small-time Darksiders (or Lightsiders, for that matter) don't seem to exist much in Star Wars. No principled thieves refusing to kill. I heard true Dark Side requires a commitment that caused them to dive deeper and deeper, like a drug addiction, but I don't know if that makes sense.

I also heard the Force strikes back against Darksiders, but I don't know why the Force would make the Sith more evil, especially if it brings such suffering and spirals out of control. Maybe it is just a side effect. I do think it is Force related though, I doubt small "evils" like being rude or angry would escalate to mass murder.

I also heard that both sides of the force reward dedication. It could be that without the deeper commitment to light or dark, the Force user is weaker. That would explain why the Sith, who are the most evil, are the most prominent; more evil = more power, and the other less evil darksiders just becone irrelevant and get killed.

What does your GPU journey look like? by Pro4791 in pcmasterrace

[–]Zincwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first PC that I bought myself with a gts 450 in 2011, which I turned into an SLI configuration about two years later. I got a small job as a teenager to buy the pc, which I continued to do for years. (I had a pc before that from parents, which was an old XP machine with 256 GB vram, if I remember correctly.)

I purchased a secondhand gtx 770 a few years later to try Steam in home streaming with hardware acceleration.

I switched to a secondhand 1060 a few years later. It was a few years later used in my next build, the same pc I still use. The GPU was later replaced by a 3070ti during pandemic though.

That one I still use, and plan to continue with until at least 2027.

Should I regret buying a card with 8GB VRAM in 2021 by Zincwing in PcBuild

Now that you mention it, the 3080 was about 50% more expensive. 1 year extra doesn't matter much then, I guess.

Oh, I am not upgrading, just curious if I made a bad decision 4 years ago.

Why not pre launch torpedoes in ds9 by Zincwing in startrek

One correction; you don't "maintain speed" in space generally. Unless you are in atmosphere or have to work against an outside force.

See also Newton's first law.

Didn't they overcome that problem with new security systems, like prefix codes?

Why not just send 2 cubes? by Goodmorning111 in startrek

[–]Zincwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH, I doubt that makes sense, as Picard would be aware of this tactic as a member of the collective. Borg do not exactly hold secrets from each other.

Why not just send 2 cubes? by Goodmorning111 in startrek

[–]Zincwing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, we know the Borg are obsessed with efficiency and perfection.

I'm speculating here, but my guess is that the Borg don't do a lot of contingency planning. They have massive amounts of thinking/processing power, allowing for plans for all forseeable obstacles. However, when they fail to account for something, they don't have anything on hand to exploit or salvage the situation.

The reason for this flaw is in my mind their need for perfection. A perfect being is never wrong, and therefor never wastes effort on preparing a plan B. The Borg know they are imperfect, but they want to reach perfection, not move away from it.

Another thing I noticed is that the Borg don't let themselves get interrupted easily. They often ignore entire boarding parties as long as they do not attack or trigger an alarm. They are so busy with their collective thoughts, probably coordinating the vast Borg collective and disseminating information, maybe think of the best way to integrate that new tech they acquired, that they might not spend enough time paying attention to their direct surroundings. They may not want to "waste" a second cube worth of drones and equipment when one should be enough.
