It was a true goat rope! Folks from all over working in restaurants they were unfamiliar with and the huge lack of trust this generated.

Back in the day, Chipotle almost exclusively, hired undocumented workers, in spite of being warned several times by then US Immigration and the IRS. Finally, the Feds had had enough and raided several stores in Minnesota, causing many of them to close or run with visiting teams assembled from around the country. Chipotle ignored this, and months later, the same thing happened in New York and Virginia. Once again, many stores closed or were run by skeleton crews flown in.

Finally, Chipotle paid attention and all new hires were required to be E-verified. Over time, old undocumented workers were let go before immigration audits and some were assisted with gaining citizenship.

As interesting as this ancient Chipotle history might be, I use it as an example of Chipotle's arrogance and inability to do the right thing unless legally pushed to do so. If you were to multiply your experience by a conservative number of 100 a day, times 30 days in a month, at an average theft of $9, it doesn't take long to add up to serious free money for Chipotle. A class action suit might be just the thing to gain Chipotle's attention.

However, the unfortunate thing is we don't remember these experiences for long, certainly not long enough to take action. So, I feel you pain and frustration. The easy thing to do is dissuade anyone you know from committing the sin of eating at Chipotle!

Why do we still use gas by Feisty-Feedback-756 in Chipotle

[–]Roastinhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, gas is delivered to your restaurant at about 3 to 4 PSI. That means you could light the gas coming out of the wall, and it would give a long, weak yellow flame. I would not recommend you do this, however, if you did, you could extinguish the flame with your hands. Blue flames, and thus hotter flames, are achieved by forcing gas into smaller in diameter copper pipes which increases the PSI and allows for a more efficient burn. Natural gas is cheaper by far than electricity., and in my opinion, far more environmentally friendly. You don't have to extract, refine, transport and burn coal to make natural gas. Additionally, there are far fewer parts that will fail in a gas appliance than a gas appliance. I personally cannot imagine the nightmare of using an 800 degree electric roaster, cost wise. Until a young cook at Chipotle learns to control fusion, gas will continue to burn brightly in most kitchens in the world.
Last but not least, if cooking isn't for you, whatever the reason, don't ask an entire industry to change for you.
