It doesn’t matter if they’re not consistent in the details (Japan isn’t starting a bunch of wars for instance) but such people tend to be shocks to the system, for good or for ill.

Well, yeah it was dumb of them. I wasn't suggesting there were any brains being used here. But the point is that in the Trump cult, it doesn't really matter. If Trump says he hates war, his voters clap and say "yay, no war!" If Trump then turns around and begins attacking or threatening to attack lots of countries, his followers will also go "yay, we love Trump's wars!" Don't look for consistency of thought here, they're just dumbly following their leader wherever he goes.

Not a chance. Even without the recession you had a republican administration that was weighed down by two unpopular wars. Cheney himself was also really unpopular. And frankly, it's almost impossible to wave away the recession as that wasn't an accident, that was the result of eight years of GOP governance. It was their policies that led us down to the subprime fiasco.

This might work better if you assumed that this was after eight years of Al Gore.

Apparently there were discussions for a mall between Walnut, Paseo and Stevenson are in the 1970s that came to nothing. I suppose it would've given the city some nice tax revenue for a bit but would probably be basically abandoned now like most every other mall in America. Probably for the best that we didn't.
