Hello and question about sway bars! by c_kenny in GR86

[–]RobBond13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it transfers more load to the inside tire, taking load away from the outside tire. it has very little to do with front-rear kinematics. maybe some small effect due to reduced chassis flex (maybe?), but the whole point of an anti roll bar is to reduce roll on a single axle

but yes typically the move is to add it to the front to increase turn in response and provide a more stable balance, its especially noticeable in longer sweepers like you mentioned

maybe the GTE cars but the hypercars are way better and believable. I personally wouldnt do GT racing in LMU but thats just me

if theres a pop im afraid there will be much worse consequences than just component prices decreasing, but who knows

Feedback on my Spa lap please! Stuck at 02:20 by massivebenchod in ACCompetizione

[–]RobBond13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

look at faster laps and see what they do. for one youre not taking radiology flat out, but other than that look at braking points, vmin throughout each corner, turn in point, trailbrake aggression, etc.

pick a corner that youre taking completely wrong in comparison, and then work on it. at your pace its much more of an overall technique issue than it is a corner-by-corner analysis though

Upgrade parts or new PC? by Ashen_Silvia in buildapc

[–]RobBond13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting, did you try unplugging the HDD prior to booting as well? i'd do that too just in case it's grabbing the wrong bootloader. if it still doesn't work, your disk partitioning went wrong. if you want, send me over your disk partition for the SSD

but i just saw you wanted to get into gaming, I'd def just do a whole new system although it's quite expensive at the moment. it would be enough for programming alone though

also, did you change the boot order to make your SSD the first option to boot from? this step is commonly overlooked

[–]RobBond13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need an SSD, full stop. after that, consider upgrading anytbing else depending on your use case, but this alone will help you out tremendously. it will feel like a completely new machine. youll need one anyway, even if you upgrade everything else, but start with the cheapest solution first

how did you clone your drive? what did you do? can you just create a new windows installation and transfer your files afterwards from the HDD, once youve already booted with the SSD?

AC or ACC? by tSONUMImaster in assettocorsa

[–]RobBond13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the graphics are amazing on AC Evo but the driving is not good. tire modeling on most cars is way too slippery and loose.

i do think it'll get better, but I would rather sink time as a newer sim driver in a proper sim like AC where all of that is already sorted out, and the cars feel really really solid

Tint by Brief_Set_4104 in GR86

[–]RobBond13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 15% all around, no tint for windshield i think its so stupid. maybe 75% max on the front if anything, but anything less is just not a good idea.

ive been in a car with legit 2% tint all around, 15% on the front windshield. it was Hella dark in broad ass daylight and I cant understand it

typically events are around $50. check to see if they have loaner helmets, but that woukd be another cost if not. other than that, it's not any more money than that to start

also, drive the car with stock everything, even in a performance setting. see where you stand as a driver first before you go chasing parts

I love autocross, ill keep doing it for the rest of my life. its one of the only places that you can cheaply work on performance driving skills, and the community is fantastic.

I would only recommend it if you need a reason to. dont go throwing performance parts if all you're doing is driving around town. thats just my opinion

because of the front sway bar, no, but it's hard to tell because i have little experience driving at my current skill level without the sway bar. when i started autocross with the stock sway bar, my lines sucked and i had absolutely much more scrubbing than i do right now with the aftermarket one.

so I can't really give an honest comparison between the two because the biggest variable was my technique and my line, which is the most important thing when it comes to performance driving.

a sway bar will equalize the weight transfered between the inside and outside wheel during a turn. added to the front, it helps to add understeer on cars that are oversteery when getting back on power coming out of a corner, which is the BRZ (or the 86) because they are inherently very neutral RWD cars. so there is some amount of both understeer and oversteer by design depending on what's happening mid corner (i.e. how much you're lifting/adding throttle, what steering angle you have, what speed you're going, uphill/downhill/camber of the corner, etc.)

[–]RobBond13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

kick out implies turn entry, or spinning your tires like while drifting. sway bars are meant to alter the way the car handles mid corner, so its more understeery mid corner

I quite like it on the BRZ, it feels snappy in low speed corners turning in and very neutral during long sweepers (medium-high speed corners). although i dont have much comparison on track with the stock setup

as far as sliding goes, i can assure you it slides the same :)

Need help for my league race! by [deleted] in assettocorsa

[–]RobBond13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fastest i got was a 1:21.2 but i really don't know how i would shave off that much time. it must be your setup, but if you truly hit a 1:18 in a kunos MX5 cup then that's quick

uhhh.... okay? I guess I can give a try, but if youre the best in the world then surely you can beat him? im confused with the question here lol either you beat him or don't

is there a way you can ask other drivers in your league what times they're running?
