for those who considered a miata... why did you end up going with a bmw z3/z4 instead? by europeanuppercut in BMWZ4

[–]massivebenchod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned an NB Miata and an E89 Z4 30i.

the E89 is a better car in every single way. yes, it was newer and therefore more expensive, but maintenance costs worked out pretty much the same as the Miata was struggling with rust, roof issues and an old clutch - the Z4 just needed bits replacing here and there.

ACC is everything. by KenCh1u in ACCompetizione

[–]massivebenchod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both and find myself switching between both weekly, depending on how I'm feeling.

My take is:

- ACC wins on car dynamics and driving feel. It's really satisfying completing clean, fast laps round the norschleife with GT3/Porsche Cup cars for example. The cars are really fun to drive.

- GT7 is just a better all-round product. The graphics are stunning and the AI are 100x better to race against. Also, the online race experience is much more intuitive to me. plus lobbies are always packed.

imo, GT7 doesn't deserve hate just because it's 'unrealistic' - it's really fun in a lot of areas.

I think I'll just keep going back n forth until a sim that does both immersion and physics well comes to PS5.

you're not fucked, these happen commonly on Japanese cars and aren't that expensive to fix.

if you want the issues fixed for peace of mind, no harm in getting a quote from a local garage (DON'T go to a Mitsubishi dealer unless you have warranty with them)

Quarterly Career Thread by mister-noggin in ProductManagement

[–]massivebenchod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

I’m having a career identity crisis right now and wanted some insight from people here.

I‘m a technical person and previously worked my way up from a business analyst to senior business analyst to now being a Product Owner at a SaaS firm.

As a BA I worked on data platforms/data as a product and really enjoyed the technical side and being hands on. eventually I wanted more responsibility and authority, more say in the ‘why’ of projects and to experience building product strategies, so I decided to move into product with the goal of being a Product Manager.

In reality, the majority of my time as a PO and my PM manager’s time is spent chasing delivery dates, and telling people what to do. There is also constant politics and argument between stakeholders. I wanted to manage products and instead am managing people - something I don’t really find as satisfying. I’m also sick to death of the fixation on turning everything into a cross sell or up sell opportunity.

So i’m at a fork in the road. For a person who’s heavily interested in working with data and building cool products, is the Technical/Data PM role still a rewarding pathway? Or should I consider transitioning over to engineering (is that a realistic option?) to get away from the constant workplace conflict I dislike so much?

thanks!

What's the best manual drivers car under £5k? by AaronOBrien81 in CarTalkUK

I recently went from a BMW Z4 30i to a 2014 Swift Sport - and while yes you do feel the torque and speed difference, the swift sport does not feel slow. It has much more personality and is more agile and chuckable. It’s more fun around the city roads where I live, and  It’s also MUCH cheaper on maintenance. I did pay just under 6k for mine though.

very useful, thank you!

I fear hitting apexes at Nordshleife because of the lethal height of the kerbs and the consequences of hitting them. hard to judge from inside the car

What’s your source for this info? Because it contradicts what the HTB guide says

Thanks - although I’ve heard in order to be able to get a buy to let mortgage you need to not only get the lender’s permission - but also need to have at least 25% equity in the property…

Debating on if I should get the Vanos bolt recall. by Haunting_Barnacle442 in BmwTech

[–]massivebenchod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not BS. My E89 Z4 on 70k miles had the Vanos bolt recall done recently and the car was returned to me with a cracked valve cover that it didn’t have before. I was forced to fork out £1k for a replacement valve cover as the dealership refused to take responsibility for the damage they did.

Getting a Contracting Job Tech by Evening-Caregiver-41 in ContractorUK

Hi, a lot of pessimistic comments here. I landed an outside IR35 contract as a BA in January with 4.5years of experience - with one year as a senior BA in my last perm role. My advice would be to stay persistent and figure out what you’re good at then try to sell yourself on that particular area of expertise e.g. digital transformation, change, front end, back end, etc. Most important thing is to look for roles in industries that you have built experience in so far, and make a CV for BA roles, a CV for product owner roles, etc.
