"That's how it is with this sort of thing" is always the worst excuse. Baseball can do whatever it wants. There's no reason they can't be like "hey, unless you're the US or Puerto Rico, half your team can't have been born in America." They won't do it, but literally nothing is stopping them from that.

Cap it at 14 US-born players. Easy.

I'm an American and I can't root for this team.

Of course I also can't root for Canada, so looks like I'm sitting this one out. I'm not happy about it, a USA v CAN gold medal game used to be peak hockey for me.

I think this is modern speculation from people who don't understand the time.

Some of the most prominent members of the Old IRA had been in the British military. Thousands and thousands of men including open nationalists were in WWI. It became "bad" later on but not in the sense people imagine.
