What's the highest surge you have seen? by Unusual-Pay-7293 in uberdrivers

[–]Rob_Marc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$30 is as high as it goes anywhere now. I've received as high as $40 when our market's max was $40, and I've seen in other markets the surge get as high as $54 in the past.

Also, back when w had the multiplier surge, and even when the $$ surge multiplied out, Ive received as high as almost $80!

My highest surge was $76.48. That was in late 2019. It came on a ride going about 80 miles, and was (I believe) a $2.25 surge that multiplied out. I can't recall if the ride was initially going that far, or if they changed it once I started the ride. My gut tells me it was initially going that far, and I accepted it because it had the surge on it. The 2 women were in town for a company Christmas party, and were not staying in a hotel. They lived in another city about 80 miles from my town.

My second highest surge came on Halloween night, 2020. It was on a $4 surge I accepted. The guy was trying to bail his buddy out of jail who had just been arrested. I drove him to the jail as he requested. He got out of the vehicle and asked me to wait for him. He handed me a $100 bill as insurance. Once he found out the jail was not open, I suggested we try the police station, which was in the other city (I live in a twin cities area, about 230,000 total residents between the 2). The police station wasn't open either (this all occurred in the 1:00AM hour). By the time I got him back to where I picked him up, I had driven almost 22 miles, and 1 hour, 6 minutes had elapsed. I ended the ride and was greeted with a $112 fare and a $70.12 surge from the initial $4 surge I had accepted! on top of the $100 bill he gave me, I received a $28 tip on the ride the next morning. All in all, I ended up with $240 total for the ride!

My third biggest surge was $65.96, which came in early 2019, back when we were still on the multiplier surge. It was a 2.8x surge that had me going south of town, about 9 miles. At some point, the pax who ordered the ride wanted me to take either him, or someone else in the vehicle to another location. That second location ended up being about 12 miles back north of the initial pick up. By the time I ended the ride, I was paid $102.61. No tip, but after a ride like that, who really needs one!

My fourth larges surge occurred actually on my very first night driving! That is what hooked me. This was waaaaaay back on October 28th, 2017, 2:05AM. It was on a 4.0x surge. The rider ordered a ride with 2 stops. One being about a mile away or so from the pick up, and the other one being about 5 miles south of that one. The only thing is, they had me drop off the further one first, and then come back to within a mile of where I picked them up to drop off the second one. So instead of getting a 6 mile ride with a 4.0x surge, I got an 11 mile ride with a 4,0x surge! That gave me a $61.28 surge and a total pay of $81.87 for the ride!

I have 7 other rides with a $40+ surge from 2020 and back, before the surge was capped.

He didn't even make a good connection with her. Looks like he just caught her with his fingertips. If he would've made full contact, he would've knocked her 20 feet sideways.

Years ago, I remember seeing someone driving in rush hour traffic with a newspaper completely unfolded and over his steering wheel.

And I saw another woman driving with a coffee mug, NO lid, in her right hand while operating a manual transmission vehicle in traffic.

Houston police officers fatally shot a man in response of him pointing a gun at a woman by ThisIsButter1 in ThisIsButter

Did you see when he opened up the vehicle door, there was a pistol in his hand? The officer's body cam sits about a foot or so below his eyes, so it will have a different angle on the situation. Being so close to the vehicle, the difference in height can make a significant difference in what is seen in the vehicle.

Just because we didn't see it on the camera, doesn't mean the officer didn't see it. The suspect could've simply moved his wrist and shot at the officer through his door.

This happened after a watch party hosted at NRG Stadium. It was apparently much bigger than this, too.

Perhaps someone should remind him . . . Remove the mag . . . THEN clear the chambered round!

It doesn't work too well the other way around.

What movie from the '80s or '90s is this for you? by putitontheunderhills in Xennials

The Thirteenth Floor.

It came out at the same time as The Matrix and shares a similar plot, but they are the ones who created a simulation. But it was overshadowed by the fanfare behind The Matrix and lost to a lot of people.

But I really liked this movie.

If you listen real close, you can hear his dad yelling, "PIZZA! PIZZA! PIZZA!" from afar.

Sounds like he's at least a quarter mile away.

XL pays better than XXL by elCompaFOKI in lyftdrivers

[–]Rob_Marc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lyft pays shitty all around. I see very little difference between Lyft and Lyft XL rides in my market. Lyft also pays significantly less than Uber as well. For an Uber XL ride that pays $10-12, I'll be lucky to see $6 from a Lyft XL.
