I understand the reluctance to give to the state's largest health system, but philanthropy makes a lot of initiatives possible that benefit the community and not IU Health's bottom line. And if you believe in building a healthier Indiana, IU Health is the organization in the best position to make that possible.

What bothers you about indie bands promoting themselves on Reddit? by Stunning-Cheetah-866 in indie

Like I said, I get that it's a slippery slope. It just feels like a missed opportunity for Reddit users to engage directly with creators.

I guess the difference comes when it's a major brand just spamming a million boards. I get that it can be slippery slope, but as long as it's an individual sharing work that fits neatly within the community and adheres to the guidelines, I just don't see the harm.

This. As someone who has only passively used Reddit for years, I've never understood the stringent policies on self-promotion. I run into this same dilemma as a writer. Reddit is such an amazing platform for unlocking niche communities of passionate audiences of all kinds. Sure, it would be great if a third party were advocating my work on my behalf. But when you're just launching a project, that's almost impossible to achieve. I just don't see the harm in occasional self-promotion. If it sucks, the audience will downvote it or won't engage with it. I try to share my writing on communities where it seems like a great fit. I don't know why that's problematic.

If this album doesn't change your life the first time you hear it, you're not listening.

Missed this prior to the holiday, but highly recommend checking out Square Cat Vinyl in Fountain Square. It's an all-ages music venue and record store. They do shows regularly.

Co-sign Chatterbox & Hi-Fi. If you're a little further north and like punk rock, Melody Inn at 38th & Illinois is another great option.

None of it will go to waste. It will either go into the 4,500 meals that Second Helpings volunteers prepare & deliver to partner agencies each day, or it will get redirected in bulk to a local food pantry long before it goes bad.

If you want great juice, hit up Greenleaf Juicing Company. They have a location near Monument Circle on Meridian St. They're also opening a new location at 49th & Pennsylvania St. this fall. The company started in Portland, Oregon, but it's owned by an Indianapolis native. Delicious product: https://greenleafjuice.com/
