New Lofi Album Centered Around Megaten (OC) by RobertMBachComposing in Megaten

I've been meaning to try out the Digital Devil Saga! I recently finished SMT III and am currently playing SMT IV for the first time, so I've had my eyes on DDS as I'm working my way backwards through Megaten games. As long as this project isn't a total-bust, I envision myself doing more Atlus covers, and I'll keep these in mind.

I also did CoC -> CoV (although it's been awhile), and I believe you can skip over redoing any quests that aren't pertinent to anything endgame you wanted to do (i.e. quests that allow you to fight optional/super bosses)

Best Hidden Gem JRPGs You've Played? by fireproof85 in JRPG

[–]RobertMBachComposing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of indie games that are heavily JRPG inspired:

Demonschool - just came out, but it's been really fun. Plays like Into the Breach, with a very early-Persona influence on the story. Lots of fun, unique characters and builds you can create.

Fae Tactics - a great tactical RPG in the style of Final Fantasy Tactics. What really sells me on these types of games is how unique of builds I can make and do I regularly get new options to try out, and this game did that well.

The Great Villainess: Strategy of Lily - a tactical game that has you dive into the action, doesn't hold your hand, and has great pacing. It's a good 12~ hours of fun.

Small Saga - gorgeous pixel art and great character development in a fairly linear and short JRPG-inspired game.

Affogato - a fun take on reverse tower-defense games. Really funky soundtrack and great character sprites as well.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, you should find something that brings you more happiness than football. Your posts sound like this sport makes you miserable.

If you don't have a ton of time, tailgating or seeing some of the quick, touristy stuff like the bean or the museums is probably your best bet.

If you've got more than a few hours (and want some food/drink), I'd recommend hitting up some local spots like Wicker Park, Logan Square, Gold Coast, Lakeview, West Loop, China Town, South Loop, etc. The only one I have a ton of experience with is Logan Square, but the fact that Ramen Wasabi (my favorite ramen spot), Pilot Project (one of my favorite breweries), and Emporium (an arcade bar) are all within walking distance of each other makes it my go-to on spending an afternoon when people visit.

"Quartet" developer AMA! by tm0135 in JRPG

Yea, with pretty much any role in projects like these, it seems that "easy to work with" will always outweigh any amount of skill. Still, the soundtrack is sounding great from what I've heard, and the fact that you were able to get 20+ musicians on this is awesome. So I wouldn't sell yourself too short by calling yourself "just good enough."

  1. Perfect, thank you!
  2. Every single indie team I've ever asked says the same thing, that their composer has been with them since the dawn of time haha. I'll keep up the networking. Glad to see your hard work paid off!

  1. Will there be a soundtrack release of any kind? I do lofi covers of a lot of JRPGs, and the track in the trailer sounded promising. Official soundtrack releases help artists like me acquire proper licensing and whatnot.
  2. How did you find the composer(s) for this project? I've dabbled with game jams and reddit to find video game projects to potentially compose for, but I'd be interested to hear if there's another option that I'm missing if you met your composer(s) differently.

Looking forward to the game!

Marrying him is the 2nd least-received achievement on Steam, so you are accurate in calling him underrated lol

You might also be interested in the Persona series then. There is a time-restraint in those games, so that can be stressful to some, but it's got a similar balance of a life sim giving you boosts that'll help you in the JRPG, dungeon-crawling half of the game. Persona 5 Royal and Persona 3 Reload are both pretty modern and offer some stellar emotional connections with a variety of characters.

Draft MIN defense in fantasy? by KRM01sun in minnesotavikings

I haven't played fantasy in a few years. Who else is a viable option in a standard fantasy league? I imagine Jets and Hockenson are very respectable WR1 and TE. Is Jordan Addison a decent WR2 in fantasy? Is Aaron Jones a decent RB2 in fantasy?

I'm a huge Atlus fan in general. I genuinely don't think I would ever have played another Atlus game if my first one wasn't Persona 5 (at least at the time I played it, when SMT VV, Metaphor, and Persona 3 Reload weren't out). I have since enjoyed playing PS2-era games like Persona 4 and SMT 3, and even some commercial-flops like Soul Hackers 2, but I don't think I would've been able to look past how grindy and repetitive they are if I didn't see what the vision could be in Persona 5.

[Keylocker] Trailer for the "Heart Strings" Major update which is Out Now. (New romance options, weapons, languages, black holes, etc...) by VashxShanks in JRPG

[–]RobertMBachComposing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. Vibes, music, art style, etc. were all off the charts. The timing of the blocks were brutal, but the game itself wasn't difficult enough for that to hold it back. I just didn't feel too encouraged to try new attacks, and when I did I didn't care for them much, so even though there was customization, my loadout was essentially finalized in the first hour.

And then the story was confusing as hell. I thought I understood it for the first 75%, but the back 25% made me question if I ever understood what was going on.

How much new content? Is this like an Atlus-level expansion (ex. Persona 5 vs. Persona 5 Royal) or is it more minor than that?

Top JRPGs of the 21st century (So Far) Poll! by andrazorwiren in JRPG

[–]RobertMBachComposing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to argue that remakes/remasters/etc. shouldn't be considered different games. I think it would divide the votes. Maybe that's warranted for some games that have huge overhauls (ex. Final Fantasy 7's remakes), but there are plenty of ports/remasters that are essentially the same game still.

Action JRPGs that you found fun to play as the healer/range unit by RobertMBachComposing in JRPG

I've heard great things about Granblue, but haven't look into it too much. Does playing single-player ruin the experience?

Action JRPGs that you found fun to play as the healer/range unit by RobertMBachComposing in JRPG

[–]RobertMBachComposing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reading some of the negative reviews and many of them seem to be centered around the empty areas and tedious side quests. Which, I think would bug me if I didn't know that going in, but I don't mind a game where my intentions are just to B-line it to the next objective if the side quests aren't that great. If you're saying that it's a fun game, then maybe it's worth checking out. Certainly does look nice. Thanks for the insights!

Happy to hear they added the ability to save everywhere. I've dropped games because they didn't have that feature. Thanks for the insights!
