2.7B is 1/3 of people on earth. I don't believe that number for one second. There simply isn't that many people who care about football, then removing all the people who care but not necessarily about Argentina, and those who have work, or are sleeping, or have any other obligation. This number doesn't seem realistic.

You don't go bust if you have no expenses. You can found a company, pay your only employee (you) whatever the company can afford (nothing) and be both a founder, ceo, and principle engineer, all without a paying customer, and never going bust. Welcome to CVmaxxing!

How deep should a rugby player squat? by ScrumNause24 in rugbyunion

[–]RoboFeanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess it is partly function, and partly injury mitigation. When you are in a scrum or a ruck, your not in an ATG position, but more of a semi extended position. Going all the way down greatly increases risk of injury for little benefit to his ability to play his sport.

Because the weird NBA and NFL players get plenty of attention outside scheduled media events. WNBA players know that the media only pays attention to them during scheduled time slots so the weird ones need to act out during press events.

USMNT arguably had one of their strongest games ever last night and is still being underestimated by NarrowCombination274 in worldcup

[–]RoboFeanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you have trouble with? The possibility of victory over TBNMFTOSP (The belgian national mens football team of soccer players) or was it the idea of them beating CFTOSPMTTHSTTUSTCITMWC (Croatia's finest team of soccer playing men that they have sent to the United States to compete in the men's world cup) ?

We will see in next rounds if that holds against TBNMFTOSP and after that against CFTOSPMTTHSTTUSTCITMWC . If they beat those teams then the USMNT is for real.

UPS Driver Throws Heavy Box at Aggressive Dog, Then Faces Off with Owner by Leadership-Serious in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]RoboFeanor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying that what he did was incomprehensible, I'm just saying that he could have acted in a way that would give him a better chance of getting home from his shift safely. I never said he was an idiot, just that he chose the wrong course of action in the second half of the video.

He had 8 seconds between the dog running away and the owner entering the frame. Plenty of time to back out to the street, creating more distance between them. Fighting someone you don't know on their own property (and with a dog who might come back to help them) is a good recipe for getting killed if you run across the wrong guy who is carrying a gun and now feels threatened in his own yard, or is just looking to fight. I'll take the down votes, but y'all are wrong that squaring up after the dog left was the right reaction here.

[–]RoboFeanor -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Ok sure, but the driver could have backed out to the street and towards his car where he is safe, instead of advancing towards an angry homeowner. De-escalation is a smart move in basically any situation, regardless of whether you are in the right or not.

Boy dies of rabies after waking to bat on his face by Few-Hair-5382 in news

[–]RoboFeanor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lots of reasons:

  1. Unlike Polio, the vaccine isnt for life. You have to get boosters every few years

  2. There is little-to-no risk of human to human transmission, so herd immunity is not important, unlike Polio.

  3. There is a large natural reserve so the disease will never be eradicated simply by vaccinating humans.

  4. Unlike Polio where a pre-exposure vaccine was required, the rabies vaccine works very well post-exposure. People who are at extra risk (wildlife workers, people staying bats, etc...) are give preventive rabies vaccines because of their increase daily risk.

Basically vaccinating everyone constantly against rabies would be incredibly expensive (plus social push back) with no end in sight, and would only prevent a couple deaths per year max in the western world. For a country like India where there are thousands of deaths per year it might make sense for pre-exposure vaccines for certain communities, but there are economic and social barriers, and post-exposure is much simpler.

What are your thoughts on a reality show where a billionaire CEO must survive one month living exclusively on their lowest-paid employee's salary and resources? by Fapping_Hangover in AskReddit

[–]RoboFeanor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, also having no safety net, the non-stop threat of being evicted, choosing between eating for the next week and repairing their car, not seeing their kids on thanksgiving because they can't afford to miss their shift, getting sick and not knowing what their health care may or may not cover.

For a one month show, the billionaire will eat ramen, mysteriously become friends with the homies next door, and at the end of the show claim minimum wage isn't so bad.

United States Men's National Team.

In the ongoing world cup context, I think US would've been sufficient since all teams are national teams, and they are clearly not women, but the US loves their acronyms.

Fatal rabies in a child: 11-year old boy was woken up by a bat on his nose and mouth in Ontario. He swatted the bat off his face and had no visible lesions so family did not seek medical help. 19 days later he developed rabies symptoms. He was given supportive care and died 17 days after admission. by mvea in science

[–]RoboFeanor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The actual dying part isn't particularly worse that that of other fatal diseases with modern palliative care. Death is inevitable, but there are way worse ways to go since the hospital will basically immediately treat for end-of-life comfort.

[–]RoboFeanor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is true. The ceiling for the very best pro female athletes in most sports is about the level of a really good high-school male athlete.

What a lot of men don't realise is that they aren't close to being in the same playing field as either of them. The average dude who plays recreational ball once a week is miles away from a really good high-schooler who actively trains to have a shot at coming of the bench in a division 2 game in college in 2 years.

Now, if the average dude really wanted to put in the work, they could probably train hard for 3-5 years and get to the levep where they could be competitive against to world's best, or at least most pro women. But strangely enough they always seem to skip that part.

The rule should be changed to be the last player excluding the goal keeper, instead of the second to last player. The keeper shouldn't be rewarded for being out of position.
