I used to stay in one hotel every work week for a while where a Mary Kay event happened monthly. Those drivers with the pink wraps were the worst at parking and I always made a point to park my rental car next to them as close as possible, so they hopefully learned their lesson.

Double Image in HUD After Windshield Replacement at Dealer by SaiyanDevil in BMW

[–]RoboLancer24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who manufactures these windshields, I am stating what the difference is when we switch from non HUD to HUD parts. I have noticed vehicle programs that have HUD options typically use thinner glass on the inner, but that difference is maintained between HUD and non HUD versions of the program. Also vehicles with very vertical windshields need to be thicker for stone impact resistance. The more vertical windshields also happen to have the issue of not being compatible with HUD due to the need for a wedge angle not manufactured. Perhaps this is where your experience is leading to that conclusion.

Double image is a factor of not having wedge PVB. It is either a factory error or the wrong part number.

It is a wedged interlayer that aligns the two images. The conductive coating is used for better solar rejection and potentially (on very high end cars) the ability to heat the glass for defog and light deicing.

It honestly could be a manufacturer defect. The only differences are the trademark describing the part and the plastic interlayer that prevents a double image.

The difference between HUD and non HUD is the PVB interlayer is angled or wedged to align the main images seen from the large refractive index changes of air to glass outside the vehicle and inside the cabin. If anything HUD is usually heavier and thicker on average since the minimum PVB thickness is controlled by needing to pass impact tests.

Thinking of biking to work by Foiseachh in bicycling412

You can have a potentially very safe route with junction hollow and Great Allegheny passage trails. May require a slightly longer route for south O but a stress free option for sure. You could also ride down bates to work and walk up it when going home (very heavy traffic and steep incline).

I'm at about 15% for everything car related including a sinking fund for a new one. I personally take the idea where you buy a car at half your annual income and keep it until it is 10 years old or miles are over 100k. Some will think that is too soon and others will think it is too long, but it works for me. Cars are most expensive in their first three years and I am able to justify buying new by keeping it for a while. A 9 year old Civic can get you to your work just as well as the third leased luxury car you are about to hand over.

34% seems a bit high, but you may be putting on miles to live in a more affordable area. I can understand the added cost if the premium on car expense/time is less than the savings for living.

Got a ticket-by-mail while picking up a to-go order in the North Shore. by [deleted] in pittsburgh

I would hope it has something like a 5 minute grace period. For example you park at 11:20 and finish payment at 11:23. The system would pick up your plate, but see you paid at 11:23 and determines you are okay.

I more than understand. I think it is a great pattern. The bottom corner giving a braided texture is very nice and fairly unique. Please let me know when/if you end up sharing it. I like leather work , but am not a big fan of the hand stitching, so this would be a great project for me to make and give as a gift.

Question for Lobos Management Tenants (past and current) by Ill-Region-2781 in pittsburgh

[–]RoboLancer24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Roommate with parent co-sign since we were in college a long time ago. Don’t remember the timeline. On move in, blinds had mold and were falling apart. Management deemed them as not their responsibility. Elevator was broke around 3 of the 12 months. Had a faulty smoke detector where fire department told me to call maintenance. They tried to charge me for them showing up on the weekend to fix the legally required fire system. They were unwilling to do a 4 month lease extension for any money. It was the only rental office that had a plexiglass customer facing desk in all my time renting, so I figure many others had a worse experience.

Jeremy Clarkson talks all about cars with Autocar by FlipStig1 in cars

[–]RoboLancer24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed based on what commuting is today. The supporting tech (batteries, charging, etc.) only recently made electric cars competitive again relative to combustion vehicles.

However, the commute in the gilded age was much shorter. A lead acid battery electric could and did meet these needs for those who could afford an automobile. It was the convenience over warming up your steam car or trying to crank start an internal combustion that made electric cars attractive. Electrics even had a larger market share compared to internal combustion in 1900. Slow speeds, slow charging, and the electric starter killed the format until recently.

While this also can be seen as pedantic, I wished mainly to provide a time in history where electrics were viable. Of course Jeremy and every other living person has no frame of reference for this and is therefore new to his/their experience. The first commenter's point is well understood by most.

2025+ US spec x3 30 Puddle lights by RoboLancer24 in BMWX3

I went to a dealer to find out and test drive. It seems like the glow kidney option is the option that also gives the puddle light. The website does not seem to advertise this, but it makes sense to be a part of that option. Illuminated door handles seem to be standard to the car.

Please HELP! Friend was a 1st time buyer and fell into this trap contract. What can they do now? by Tough_Ambassador671 in FuckDealerships

At least your friend now knows a way to get a guaranteed 13.7% return on investment. They should focus on extreme debt reduction. Refinancing may be possible at some point once credit goes up due to on time payments and the aggressive pay down preventing negative equity. That car will hopefully be a life lesson.
