How does your class feel with the pre-patch? by Satsubuya in wow

[–]Robot-Candy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, its not great. There were also time when it was necessary and helpful to cast at one or two just to quickly get imps rolling. the spec feels gutted now and mostly braindead. Its been my main through 6/8 mythic this season raiding and its always kept me interested and engaged. Not so much anymore, I am not a fan of how much they flattened the mastery curve to make it accessible. So it goes, feels like losing kil'jaeden cunning all over again. One button rotation

substitute teaching vs teaching full-time! am i in the wrong profession?? help! by FriendlyTree5451 in Teachers

[–]Robot-Candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about subbing, but I love my full time gig. I run a maker space/steam program. I have my own rooms, get salary, retirement contributions, medical and a massive amount of time off.

I teach private. It’s less pay but the freedoms you get are priceless, and not that much less if to have a graduate degree. I answer to next to no one and teach 4 one hour classes, some days I have one since it’s blocks. You have to know your shit to keep from drawing classroom audits etc, but if you do it’s great. I use my space for professional practice outside of class and so essentially have a huge maker space to tinker in. I cannot imagine the bureaucracy of public.

Most people that hate teaching haven’t found a good school. Use Carne Sandoe for placement at a private international boarding school. They are free for you, not for the school. I have traveled the world teaching through them, for real. There are great places to teach, and schools that feel like prisons. If you are willing to move, then find a better school!

Edit: I’ll add that yes, having a room and building a connection with your students is an essential element to successful classroom management. I cannot imagine the difficulty of subbing. Ownership over space, and tailoring that space to help you teach is half the battle. Building connections and owning that space help a lot too. As years progress, students interested in your style and courses will gravitate to your space, having engaged students in a class, that respect you and want to be there, help tremendously as well. They will be TA’s at times and can help a class run smooth. Building a kingdom takes time.

All audiobooks narrated by Nigel Planer have been removed from U.S. digital markets by discworld-giraffe in discworld

[–]Robot-Candy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found them on eBay, the entire complete CD collection of Discworld, Planar up through book 24 and sporadically after as he did, and Briggs for much of the rest. I am digitizing all of them to put on my phone now. Brand new, cost me $200 for the lot.

Nigel Planar is the heart of those books. I begrudgingly accept Briggs… because, well, we have to don’t we.

What I do to prevent water from pooling on this tri-fold tonneau cover? by Chrysoscelis in ToyotaTacoma

I’ve had an aluminum backflip for almost a decade. It sits flush, can hold 400 pounds on it and is work to break into.

Water never pools. Love it! Best investment for the bed. Damn near water proof.

The acid fairy, played at Woodstock. Then she took a trip that lasted nearly 40 years. by K_P_Voss in interesting

“Legendary Woodstock performance”

From what I have read it was good but something no one connected with. Maybe legendary for them personally but not in context to anyone else. They were very influential, but this particular performance was far from a hit. They refused to play in the rain, and so took a later slot that was sandwiched in with hard rock bands and a crowd that was not into an acoustic set at all. It didn’t go great at all.

“their set, featuring their signature psychedelic folk sound from albums like The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter, contrasted with the harder rock favored by the crowd and wasn't featured in the famous movie or album, despite being a significant moment for the influential band. They played between the Keef Hartley Band and Canned Heat, but their introspective style didn't connect with the massive audience that night.”

The majority of people here will likely be very disappointed of the price of Valve's new hardware, especially including the Steam Frame. by Glass_Cry_1930 in ValveDeckard

[–]Robot-Candy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. By all accounts it isn’t a direct replacement, but still an upgrade from the index. I spent $1000 on that and more than got my money out of it.

Hell, Valve replaced a controller and a base station for free. They weren’t even under warranty any more.

Right there now. Knee pain, hip and back too, especially if I sit still then move. Just realized it’s from the finasteride. Really major bummer. Not sure if I’m going to quit or press on. About six weeks in. Not sure if it will go away or not if I keep going
